Sonic Unleashed!

I saw footage of it on a link to some Japanese website. It might've been better if Sonic were at least talking to other animals, but no, they decided to use people again. I don't know why they think Sonic's world is somehow improved by humans.

It's true. I appreciate that Sonic is built on speed, but they make it so that there's no possible way a normal human being can react fast enough to deal with some of the obstacles they throw at you.

Pwned.

I decided to give the demo of this game one more try, after having given up halfway through on my initial try a few months ago. This time though, I did something a bit different-- I only just barely pushed the analog stick, and I made sure to jump over those doggam speed boost pads whenever possible, and only used the homing attack when absolutely necessary. And you know what? The game still sucks, but it's PLAYABLE!

Yes, I think I have discovered the biggest plague upon the Sonic series in the last few years: IT'S TOO FREAKING FAST. Sonic Team has to one day come to realize that there is in fact such a thing as "fast enough," and they went past it A DECADE AGO! Even going at a minimal speed, the game still feels plenty fast, but I could actually tell WHAT THE CRAP I WAS DOING and WHERE I WAS GOING! The game still has piss poor level design, and the controls are obviously still way too jumpy, along with a million other problems. The demo doesn't even have the Manhog levels or the stupid overworld hub, which are considered by most to be the real game breakers for Unleashed, but by showing the utmost restraint in using Sonic's speed, I was able to effectively diagnose what is wrong with the Sonic games. Make Sonic slower and polish the darned controls and level design, and maybe, just MAYBE, Sonic games can be good again! AND GET RID OF THOSE FREAKING SPEED BOOST PADS!

I rented it from Gamefly, and I got to the second or third werehog segment and just stopped playing, packed it up, and sent it back. The game is horrible, and I almost broke my game system during the Tails flying section.

The impression I got from the demo was "If this is the GOOD part of the game, I don't even want to see the rest of it." Like I said, if I ever-so-carefully pushed on the joystick and avoided the speed pads, it was playable. Not good, but playable. However, if the rest of the game's design is even more ham-fisted then "the good parts," then as a whole the game sounds like a broken piece of garbage. When Sega is actually serious about getting their act together, and makes a Sonic game that has NO gimmicks like Shadow, the Manhog, swords, "hero-linking" or any dumb crap like that, MAYBE I'll consider buying it. However, the only thing Sega has shown themselves to be competent at in recent years is looking at what the fans want, and then doing the opposite.

Well I have to admit Black Knight failed too. The game takes about 5 hours to beat so the Wii exclusive Sonic fails. *sigh* I read the latest game informer. The guy in there from the Sonic team quit because he got tired of the lame ideas. He said Sonic should just die before they dig even a bigger hole for themselves. Sadly I almost agree with them. Well I'm gonna pull out The original Sonic and forget Sonic team.

I've got a Sega Genesis with all four main Sonic games, and I still love them today as much as I ever have. I need to find a Sega CD at a flee market or something so that I can get Sonic CD, too. It really makes me sad though that Sega absolutely refuses to make a good Sonic game. The only conclusion I can come to is that Sega is intentionally trying to make the games bad.

Didn't Sonic Team say not to long ago that they were not making a new game...and BAM! we get more crap. Come on Sonic team. Your killing my favorite video game ever. Just hand the rights to nitendo. The worst thing they have done is make the F.L.O.W. but Mario Sunshine was awesome. (Also don't have to worry about a Hedgehog with a gun.)

^I'm scared to know what that stands for...

Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device?

Why is that so scary? What's scary is the state of Sonic's games since the first Sonic Adventure. :(

I feel very left out. Anyways, I few in the time from Adventure to this have been ok. Not as bad as Sonic the Hedgehog that is. :csad:

Why does everyone think Nintendo would for some reason treat Sonic with any more respect than Sega? Nintendo would probably treat Sonic like a ginger-haired bastard child and just use him as a "guest character" in a bunch of crappy party games.

I think the big problem is that Sonic Team needs to be re-structured, and that essentially means cleaning house. People will be fired, and new ones will be hired. And ultimately, Sega has to change their expectations for what Sonic Team puts out. Sega is currently operating Sonic Team as a factory, and they don't expect them to put out anything good, because all they care about is the dumb 10 year olds who buy the games just for the gimmicks, regardless of quality. Sega needs to put together a SOLID creative team, and impose a very high standard of quality that they are expected to reach before the game can be released. And they need to do it WITHOUT GIMMICKS!

I think that assumption comes from Sonic Unleashed being less enjoyable than playing as Sonic in the Subspace Emissary mode of Smash Bros. Brawl.

Brawl is the best game Sonic has been in since the Dreamcast.

Indeed. That's so very sad.

And plus, since when has Mario had a bad core game in his franchise? I'm talking Galaxy, World, and 64 here. Not the spin-offs like the Karts and the spin-off games. That is why everyone thinks Nintendo would treat Sonic better.

Mario Sunshine, but that's literally it.
