Hollywood reporter: Stephen King on SOA

Stephen King will make a special appearance on Sons of Anarchy when the biker drama returns for a third season on FX this September. King, who is a columnist for Entertainment Weekly, will play a quiet loner who appears in Gemma’s (Katey Sagal) time of need. The producers learned that King was a fan of the drama, so they reached out to the author for a possible cameo. King will appear in the third episode.

I know I'm thick into the season when I look at my blog and realize I haven't posted in weeks. Twitter is spoiling me. It's the lazy man's blog. So I'd figure I'd drop an update.

We just locked picture on 301 and everyone is very excited. Directed by "Shield" alum, Stephen Kay, the network had very few notes -- which is a good sign. The season picks up a few days after the season two finale and the episode is about Jax's emotional journey through the devastation of losing a child.

It's so interesting for me as a writer to explore these emotional avenues now being a father myself. I wrote a script years ago called Delivering Gen which was all about a man's inability to be a father. I remember some parental watch group read the script and pointed out to me and my agent, Nicole Clemens, who was also single at the time, that the baby in the movie is in life-threatening peril more than a dozen times. Our response was, "Really?" We were a little detached. But now that I'm a father, those scenes, those moments are much harder to write. And hopefully, deeper.

I watched Edge of Darkness over the weekend and while Mel was hunting down his daughter's killers, I was listening to Esme' coughing over the baby monitor. She has a cold. I kept pausing the movie, then running up to her room to make sure she was okay. It was a weird interactive experience. But now I know whenever I do write those father revenge scenes, they won't just be fantasy. I know in my gut, that I'd cut someone's ****ing heart out if they ever threatened my kids. Truly, without pause. I'd kill with a clear conscience.

Wow. As usual, I've taken a left turn down Dark Drive. So about that update -- 302, directed by another "Shield" alum, Gwyneth Horder-Payton, came out great. I will say there's a scene near the end that rivals the tattoo removal sequence in season one. It makes me giggle. I haven't seen 303 yet. That too, directed by a "Shield" alum, Billy Gierhart. Looking forward to seeing Stephen King in that one. 304 is being shot by one of my favorite directors, and another "Shield" director, Guy Ferland (do you see a pattern?). 305 is being prepped, Gwyneth is helming that one as well. 306 is written. And I'm avoiding writing 307 at this very moment. It's due a week from today.


I tweeted about the new line of merchandise that will be coming out very soon. It's very hip. I think folks are really gonna dig it. We're in the process of putting together some kind of music tour with Bob Thiele and the Forest Rangers. The iPhone app is moving forward, as is the game. Oh, and we're gonna be auctioning off a custom SOA Harley for charity. More on that in the next couple weeks.

I thought I'd take a moment from my bombastic walk down the dark, rocky road I travel upon to update fans as to the current status of the show.

All 13 episodes are broken.
A writer's draft of 313 is being written.
I am currently working on my draft of 312.
Adam Arkin is prepping 311.
Gwyneth H-Payton is directing/shooting 310.
Stephen Kay is working on his director's cut of 309.
I'm working on my producer's cut of 308. This will be a 90 minute episode.
Craig Yahata, my post producer, is working on the pre-mix for 307.
306 is mixed and in layback.
305 is getting final post touches and is ready for final mix and layback.
304 is mixed and waiting for a re-shoot to drop in. A temp version is out to critics.
303 is done and out to critics.
302 is done and out to critics.
301 is done and out to critics. The name of the premier episode is "SO".

The SOA iPhone app should hit the week that episode 308 airs. It'll make sense why.

COTDAMN!!! I'm so happy this show is back! Last night's premiere was crucial!!! I'm still hoping someone stuffs a gun barrel in Stahl's mouth and pulls the trigger. That heffa needs to die!

Picks up probably a couple days after Abel has been take, Jax is a mess, Gemma is on the run with Tig and some of the SOA watching her, and the club is preparing for Half Sacks funeral

Jax wants Tara to leave because he doesn't want what happened to Abel to happen to her or worse

Agent Stahl has framed Gemma for the murder of the Irish kid

Hale is getting ready to take over the Sheriffs office after Unsers retirement is official

the club gets a lead on where the Irish guy took Abel and chase that down and come across gang banger territory

Gemma tries to sneak out twice and then tells Tig shes leaving anyway so he should go with her and heads to her dads house...who has a severe case of dimentia/Alzheimers

at Sacks funeral, Clay tells Jax that he has to be decisive about what he does and how it affects the future of the club....Abels dead and you take revenge or you turn over heaven and earth to find him, but you have to make a decision now

outside, Hale and his brother are talking, a van rolls up and opens fire on the funeral....Hale gets killed by the van and one of the shooters gets wounded and falls from the van....while the cops are grabbing him, Jax goes "Hulk Smash" and pounds the guys head into cement

The drive-by shooting that gets Opie's chick's(I forget her name) son shot as well as others Im sure.
Jax beating the **** outta that one dude. Pretty impressive beatdown btw. Smashed his skull into the ground like a real pro.

Any word on who those guys in the van were? My best guess is IRA or Neo Nazis.
