Sony's 2013 Gamescom Conference

Early December? That seems a but late to me. .. Sony just wants to trounce MS at this point.. A late October start would give them a fairly hefty lead.

While some devs have November listed.. That could change, I could see Activision wanting early CoD sales.. I mean.. Why not? Current listing could still be place holder dates.

Nah, noooo way is CoD launching early on a PlayStation platform. The Xbox association/DLC deals are too much.

The October release could happen and these games are simply released in the following weeks, but I really can't see either CoD of BF4 jumping the gun on their already-announced dates.

I can't help but think the October 21st date is too optimistic, personally. The pessimist in me still goes with early December. Don't forget that a lot of publishers have put down their November-releasing games as launch titles.
I cant see them launching after Black Friday. That is just a horrible business move and a really bad way to handle this holiday season. If they are ready to do an early December launch then it makes no sense why they cant push it earlier by 1-2 weeks. Yeah, theres nothing logical about launching post-BF

What makes that gif even funnier, to me, is that how big of a joke Kaz was just a few years ago. Remember RIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR! A lot of people were questioning if it was wise to let him near any kind of presentations after that, now he's like this symbol of Sony's superiority.
I would say that Hirai has been a far more successful CEO of Sony as opposed to just simply being in charge of the PlayStation division. Sony's latest efforts, thanks to Hirai's innovative (well....innovative for the Japanese corporate world) in all sorts of fields have been genuinely impressive IMO.

I was talking less about his accomplishments, and more so about his on screen/on stage presence. Most of which was defined by goofy moments, and the infamous "All this for only $599.99!"

Ken Kutaragi (Sp?) made Kaz look bad, so glad that clown is gone.

I hope they announce that Cross Buy extends to PS4 games. Of course it will still be on a game by game basis and dependent on the publisher, but if a title is released on all three PS platforms, then one purchase will allow you access to play it on any system. This would especially be beneficial for PSN original digital content.

To go along with that, I want them to clarify PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility. The focus thus far has been on PS3, but will the PS4 be capable of running those games? If it can, then Cross Buy should also be extended here, if you purchase PS Classics on the store.

Considering the cost, I would be very, very surprised if they have emulators for PS1/PS2 games in there, especially since they cut the PS2 BC out on the PS3 to cut down costs. I would think if they were going to bother with BC at all, they would do just PS3 and cut out the other two to level out the costs; it'd make the most logical sense and be the more valuable one to try and put in.

Its only expensive if it includes the actual hardware used to run those games. Example, the PS3 used to have the Graphics Synthesizer and Emotion Engine from the PS2. Straight up software emulation doesn't require additional parts and therefore would not incur any additional costs. Its why all models of the PS3 have PS1 support; that stuff is built into the OS. The Vita can emulate PS1 games, so I don't see why the PS4 cant. Considering its much more powerful than a PS3, it should be able to handle software emulation of PS2 games. Afterall PCs can and the PS4 is much more powerful than the ones which have been able to do so for years. Having PS3 BC would require the Cell processor and that would make it more expensive. PS1/PS2 would not

Ah well, in that case I guess it's possible. I feel like it would've been mentioned right off the bat if it was BC with those platforms, though. Maybe it will be, I'd dig it.

Only a few hours away. I'd like to see even mmoreof xDestiny, hope they're at Sony's show .

Yep the first versions of the PS3 had the PS2 hardware inside that plastic as well...part of the reason why the thing was so expensive! Hackers that cracked the PS3 found out that there's a PS2 emulator being used if you download PS2 classic games from the store. It doesn't have complete compatibility but even the PS3 could software emulate the PS2.

I didnt realize that. I just assumed that the PS2 classics on the store were re-encoded as PS3 games to bypass that

It's emulation. Custom firmware can enable the emulator to run a lot more PS2 games (and many other games have significant issues when running since the software is optimized for games that appear in the online store) with the emulator. It just sucks that they don't just improve the emulator for all games and sell it as an app in the store for $50 or something. Instead we get these limited and rare HD remasters and re-releases. I hope this changes on PS4 but their responses have been vague at best.

Show "starts" in less than 10 minutes, but Sony usually doesn't start on time. :meanie: Gametrailers and the Sony PS blog have video streams.

Edit:

Showing off the PS4 UI right now.

I don't know why they did all that UI stuff and kept cutting back to this super far audience shot.

Yeah this audience isn't the product that anybody watching a video stream would be interested in. :oldrazz:

I love the new UI. That thing looks so much better than the PS3 XMB

Borderlands 2 on Vita!

FINALLY Vita gets a price drop and memory cards
