Spawn Reboot | Blumhouse

He needs to let go and just let someone who has actually made a movie before direct this. Spawn has a ton of potential; even the 1990s movie had its good points (I personally thought Leguizamo and MJW were good in it, and Spawn’s costume was rad, other than the stupid cape). But you need someone who understands filmmaking. I know first-time directors occasionally hit it out of the park, but let’s be real here. No one would hire McFarlane to direct anything unless it was one of his properties.

I tried watching The Spirit once. I think I got 20 minutes in? Maybe 30? It was god-awful. Like, there are bad movies out there where you can tell there was just like, a lack of skill at various levels and you think, "Maybe this could have turned out better had this been in more competent hands." But that was one of those movies that was just an abomination on every level, so bad that you actually wonder about Frank Miller's sanity. Like, what the hell was he even thinking with that movie? I was already a little worried about him after he wrote The Dark Knight Strikes Again, but The Spirit was some whole other realm of terrible. It's a worse movie than The Room.

Liked the 1997 movie, more so at the time, LOVED the HBO series.

Speaking of that the actor who plays Al Simmons friend comes into my account all the time.

Been waiting too long on a reboot movie we were promised a hot minute ago.

It really doesn't make any sense to make it all low budget unless they plan on using this as kind of a setup for the Heaven vs. Hell stuff later. There is a lot of material they didn't use in the first.

The way Todd describes it, the CGI spectacle and Heaven/Hell stuff won't be shown on screen. Probably be mentioned in passing and that's it.

I really like the idea of a low budget Spawn horror movie. I'm half way through watching the Outsider, and I think the supernatural murder mystery tone would fit well with Spawn.

I pray that if this does end up getting made it turns out being really good because a badass character like Spawn deserves to be done justice in the live action format, but nothing McFarlane has been saying has instilled any confidence in me that it will. He just feels like the wrong choice to direct this and the last thing that I want is another The Spirit. Having really good actors like Jamie Foxx or Jeremy Renner in it won't be enough to save it either.

I wonder which movie trailers Jamie will be taking inspiration from as he starts to craft his performance.

He's looking for redemption after the horrendous TASM2.

There's enough blame to go around for that one. But if this movie gets made, with this cast, I could see it being controversial. I mean, Renner was accused of threatening to kill his ex-wife and bit his daugher, and Foxx... ummm... just Google what he supposedly did if you don't know.

I didn't know he was 52 tho

Not doing drugs, drinking, staying in shape...and probably plastic surgery will do that

Wasnt Foxx cleared of that and even counter sued the woman?

I think so. If he was that guilty he wouldn't have done that I think.

He was cleared because the statute of limitations had run out. Not because he was found not guilty. Not sure if he countersued.

I’m not saying he did it but given that this movie would have two leads with allegations against them might give it some bad press.
