Spawn Reboot | Blumhouse

I'm honestly hoping that this is successful because it could open the the door for other dark comicbook characters to have their own films. Like, The Spectre.

This reboot is never happening. They've been talking about it for 20 years.

It might happen, it might happen this time. Might.

Cool, I imagine 2019 is the earliest we will see this then?

So... did anyone see Spawn's cameo in Ready Player One?

I for one somehow completely missed it even though he's apparently right in front leading a charge into battle for 10 seconds. I must have been too busy looking at Battletoads and the 600 other references happening simultaneously.

Spawn needs a big budget to be done right. I don't like the description we've been getting from Todd McFarlane. I want them to go all out. The time is right to do a reboot.

Yeah I did, it was kinda hard to NOT see him, honestly :hehe:

According to this, most likely begins filming in May. I still don't trust it, LOL

He wants Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio for lead roles, lol. I suppose getting Jamie Foxx would be possible, not sure if they can afford him with a $10 million budget though...

Agreed, this may turn out okay, but this is not the Spawn movie we should be getting over 20 years later after the first. It should be a blockbuster.

Spawn just isn't the IP it once was. Plus, Todd is deadset on doing it himself. I think with the right style, this can be cool.

Yeah, that's what I've heard haha. My friend told me he was surprised I didn't nudge him when Spawn showed up. I was like "you're not kidding, Spawn was there and I missed him" :oldrazz:

Wait... Spawn AND the Battletoads are in Ready Player One? Okay... I might just have to see it now.

Anyway, I still think a Spawn movie has potential but I'm not wild about how MacFarlane wants to make this movie. Having Spawn as a non-speaking character just feels like a stupid way to go with this. I haven't read the comics in a long time but Spawn spoke plenty back when I did.

Jamie Foxx Reportedly Offered Lead Role In ‘Spawn’
https://theplaylist.net/jamie-foxx-spawn-20180504/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
According to That Hashtag Show (proceed with your grain of salt), actor Jamie Foxx is the studio’s first choice to play Al Simmons, aka Spawn, in the upcoming film. If the news of Jamie Foxx being approached for “Spawn” rings a bell, then you are probably the world’s biggest “Spawn” and/or Jamie Foxx fan.

Years ago, when asked which superheroes he would be interested in playing, Foxx specifically mentioned Spawn as something he’s been actively pursuing. However, that was before the news of Blumhouse producing the outing, with a presumably small budget in play. That being said, signing on Foxx to headline the feature might be the buzz needed to put “Spawn” back on people’s radar.

That Hashtag Show also drops a little bit of knowledge on what we can maybe expect in the upcoming film. McFarlane has been very vocal about this version of “Spawn” being drastically different than the original film from 1997. Instead of making the character a run-of-the-mill superhero, like say Iron Man or Batman, the director is interested in making Spawn more like the shark in “Jaws.” Hardly seen, but a force to be reckoned with, nonetheless.

The new rumor corroborates that idea, but adds that “Spawn” character Detective Twitch will be the primary character and will team up with the titular hero to wipe out the bad guys.

They also mention that the hope is to get “Spawn” under production by the beginning of August. So even if Foxx isn’t the guy for the role, we should be hearing some casting news sooner than later.

That may be the only way to get it greenlit.

What I don’t get about this is, didn’t McFarlane say that Spawn wouldn’t even have lines in this movie and would just be a background figure? I guess that’s changed?

If so, that’s a good thing, IMO. And Foxx would be a solid choice for the role.

Then again, Foxx is in that Robin Hood movie so... maybe he’s not above taking a non-speaking role now, lol.

That's definitely going to change if Foxx plays Spawn. Man this is actually great casting. I really hope this happens, and that Foxx's clout will beef up Spawn's role.

Such an amazing character, and the fact that Blumhouse is producing is such great news.

This has loads of potential, and the rumored storyline sounds pretty cool.

Yeah, Foxx is kind of hit or miss for me in most things but he'd be a perfect Al Simmons. I hope this happens.

I think the approach above doesn't interest me a whole lot. If an anthology show with different characters (not just a detective "twitchy") maybe.

How so? Most recent news (linked above) seems to position Detective Twitch as main character which I assume will be the main speaking role

How are they going to be able to afford Jamie Foxx on a cheap low budget?

Be cheap with the rest of the cast, LOL! I also assume McFarlane won't make much up front on this.

Jamie Foxx will be an awesome Simmons/Spawn.

.@iamjamiefoxx to star in 'Spawn' movie from Blumhouse http://thr.cm/KjdJzq

Jamie Foxx is set to star in the Spawn movie from Blumhouse, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Foxx had been rumored to star as the titular antihero in the feature that will hail from creator Todd McFarlane, but now it is official.
Spawn follows a black-ops agent who is betrayed and murdered, his soul sent to hell for all the innocents he killed. While there, he makes a deal with a demon who allows him to return to the earthly plane and his wife. However, five years have now passed, and his wife has moved on, while he is a disfigured and superpowered spawn of hell.
McFarlane, who is also known as one of the founding artists at Image Comics, wrote the first draft of the low-budget feature that he will direct.
Michael Jai White previously starred as the villain when the comic was adapted into a 1997 New Line horror-action movie.
