I feel like a show with a GoT or Westworld level budget is the only way we see guys like Overtkill or Violator. Everybody else is pretty grounded in a Preacher or Lucifer kinda way.

On one hand I respect his stance that it either gets done 100 percent his way or it doesn't get done at all. On the other hand, the last time I remember a comic book artist with little directorial experience going all auteur on his first solo film, it was this:

Actually, he doesn't. That might upset some folks, but it is his property. Getting his creation portrayed the way he wants is the very thing he was working for in the first place.

I called this months ago. I fear this movie may never see the light of day if Todd doesn't step away and give it to a director he can trust and just stay on as producer. He's clearly overthinking this. This is going to end up like Gambit.

If Swamp thing turns out to be the successful horror comic book adaption I hope it is, it may provide a template for the investors and Todd to reference to give them the confidence to green light this thing in ti's horror form.

I've got no interest in seeing Overtkill, Violator, Cygor etc. Keep it grounded and creepy with Tony Twist and the other mercs. A few supernatural villains here and there but nothing too big.

“Here’s what gave me some solace the other day,” McFarlane said. “I saw this movie trailer, it was called ‘Uncut Gems.’ It looks amazing. I know what I want my movie to look like. This movie looks like my movie, right?”

Everybody in Hollywood wants an R-rated, dark comic book movie, and Spawn is at the top of their list. The phone calls are coming in fast and rapid. I've been talking to a couple of Academy Award people, I've got the investors getting lined up. It's changed ever since the Joker from being me begging them to do Spawndark and creepy, to them asking. So I'm telling you it will happen this year. This year. And I will direct it. I will be directing it.
