Apparently it made just $7 million this weekend, falling behind "Prince Caspian" ($57 million), "Iron Man" ($31 million) and "What Happens in Vegas" ($14 million). Damn. This is an even bigger bomb than "Grindhouse".

I really think this film is going to become something along the line of Office Space or even The Big Lebowski. Both those movies did poorly during their theater run. Once people can rent the DVD or borrow it from someone, they'll see how enjoyably fun this film is.

This baby will live on.:csad::up:

It's still confusing how this is making zero money. Take the awesome story and funny dialogue aside, take away the coolness of Racer X and Trixie, you still have pretty shiny lights and a dressed up monkey. I honestly thought this would make money for those two reasons alone.

So confused.

Bad word of mouth. There are far more people who hated this movie than liked it.

Yeah...we're more jaded here in the States. That's why this made so much cash internationally.

Now when it comes to Dragonball being released that will get asses in seats regardless of the word of mouth, because it is literally the most popular anime in America and has been for years. It's got a massive following, and most mainstream people know of it.

I'd totally agree if this was early 2000s. But the fact now is that dragon ball is way pass its prime... We have naruto and air bender now to quench our action anime thirsts etc.

Still, I hope it does well and that it's a ****ing awesome movie.

I'm not the biggest Ricci fan, but man she looked good in this :wow:

caspian didn't do so hot either for a summer film. i'm surprise it only made 56 mil.

Me too. Monkeys make everything better.

I thought Spritle and the monkey were easily the most annoying parts of the film. There's precocious antics, and then there's what they were doing.

As for Caspian- having gone to it with my friends, I'm not surprised that people aren't turning out in droves for it. I never saw the first Narnia film, but if it's worse than this one (which I've been told it is) I won't be doing so any time soon.

I'm waiting patiently - I'm done arguing the point - it dropped down to fourth
ahead of 13 others that have gotten better initial reviews.

But,.. I expect it is here to stay and STILL think it will have a sequel.

(Heck,.. if the Hulk can have one,....)

I think this film NEEDS a sequel, it was just awesome I want to see some more car-fu , as they called it.

It won't have a sequel. Hulk made 132mil on a 137mil budget. SpeedRacer looks to make less than 50 mill on atleast 120mil budget, I've heard that it was more like 160-180mil.

It's also tanking overseas. It's a far bigger flop than Hulk and not as popular. Sorry but no sequel will ever be made.

so not only is it impossible to make a profit. but it looks like a complete bomb right?
like on every level.
still WB took a risk and made a movie that was 100% different. at least they tryed to make something new.

When the WB exec openly admits that the Memorial Day weekend is "do or die" for SR, you know the movie is in very deep hole. Sorry SR fans, but SR2 is not gonna happen.

Warner Bros.' disappointing "Speed Racer" slowed to $7.6 million for fourth place, driving in $29.8 million over two weeks.

The studio said it was not ready to call it game over on the Wachowski brothers movie, which cost $120 million to make.

Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.' executive vice president of distribution, said next weekend was "do or die" for the movie.

Jeff Goldstein is B.S-ing. The movie was DOA on it's first friday. It is a massive failure that will probably only scrap together money after years of DVD sales and T.V rights sold.

It is a true mega bomb. That doesn't mean that it was a bad movie but it's boxoffice sure is bad. I can't believe that WB is trying to pretend that this movie won't become a write off. So next week is "die some more" for the movie.

Maybe his @ss is on the line, so he's trying to convince his boss that SR may still have a turnaround. ;)

^Maybe. All I know is that I hate lying ass studio people. This movie is a disaster and they just don't want to admit it becaue they will look bad. I could have told them that it was a stupid move to greenlight a 100+mil SpeedRacer movie and release it in the heat of summer. The budget shouldn't have been more than 75mil and it should have been released in September or Feburary.

a lot of peole saw 300 in march

right?
i dont know why everythign needs to be in summer.

I dont think that the release date was bad I think it was the fact that they did not market this properly at all, wasnt there supposed to be like merchandising galore? I have seen squat from this. I just hope that DVD sales pull in Family Guy like numbers and we get a 2nd one.

there are like 10 tv spots 3 trailer.
i think it was marketed enough.
