What do you guys think of this?

I know I hear alot of whines about it. Happens only to heroes like Superman, blah blah.

I think it makes sense. It'll be dumb if the public doesn't appreciate a hero like spider-man eventually. Things are finally going well for Spider-Man, then all of a sudden, he gets the symbiote and things go downhill so it goes back to half the city hating him.

Maybe this spider-man day and award thing are the results of the events of SM2, where he saved the people in the train..

it could definitely work...what I'm more interested in though is the rumored script details that talked about Spiderman day. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm thinking at least a couple of years have passed since SM2, so I dont think it's for that.

I think it's a dumb idea.

This is New York city, very infamous for generally unpleasant people [no offence any resident New Yorkers here ;)]. Not to mention Jameson has supposedly turned the whole city against Spider-Man.

If saving a tram full of kids didn't help his reputation much, then why should saving a train full of people?? And on both occasions the New York citizens stood up to the villain on Spider-Man's behalf.

Spider-Man never got this kind of admiration in the comics. It's one of the great things about him, he get's very little thanks, yet he continously puts his life on the line for the city anyway.

This Spider-Man day thing reeks of cheesiness and sillyness IMO.

Spiderman Day comes just as the Symbiote has taken control of Peter. Black Spidey shows up for the day to honor him, and wreaks havoc.

Agreed, but hopefully, if they're going to do it, they find a way to NOT make it cheezy.

I think the idea is a little cheesy and out of character, however I have yet to see it so in the end it might be good.

Thank god it's not the comic, but the movie...

And the movie is based on the comic

Or would you rather they changed all the stuff in the movie that they based on the comics??

How are they going to justify the whole city suddenly doing a complete 180 and loving Spidey?? Makes no sense.

The only saving grace is that hopefully a villain attacks real quick, and breaks up this silly show.

well in the comic book the city eventually warmed up to spider-man, although it was much later in spider-man's life than we will be in part 3. I think they have safely established that a lot of New York hated him. Aunt May hated him, the cops tried to arrest him.

I think that spider-man being awarded can be good. I'm not saying it is, but it can. Perhaps after spiderman day, or even during it, the symbiote will influence spidey to do something unheroic, making spider-man enemy number one, after he just now finally received some thanks. SpiderMan day will just tease spider-man, give him a taste of gratitude only to have it ripped out from underneath him.

i assume this will be taking place while spider-man is in good light with the citizens of new york. but of course, something will go wrong, and black spidey will turn the city against himself.

time has passed between now and when he stopped the train. you even saw it in SM2, crime up 75%, where is spider-man?

it makes sense that they are starting to appreciate him, maybe cause things haven't gone wrong like they usually did in the comics.

In the comics there was at least one parade in his honor and JJJ said he was going to move to Europe.

um, if a city is celebrating Spider-Man day, that means they like him

Maybe its not a City-wide "Spiderman Day" but a small section of the city that wanted to show thanks for a localized heroic event?

this is my first post....but heres my theory, to make seem more like the comics, what if spidey is just dreaming that there celebrating, maybe the symbiote is doing somethin to make him think that?

I'm sure this "Spider-Man Appreciation event" occurs at the very beginning of the movie.

You're kidding, right? All you have to do is look at real life. George W. wins the presidency without even getting the plurality of the vote, and a year later he has 80%+ approval ratings. Now he's at his lowest point ever. The public is fickle. Without knowing how much time has elapsed since SM2, who knows what has happened. I know, I know, it's not true to the comics, but as you have so repeatedly pointed out, there have been a lot of deviations.

it's all an elaborate scheme put on by Harry and Aunt May to capture Spidey and use him as a circus attraction a la King Kong. talk about obvious. :o

good point!!

Just wanted to mention that the public's opinion of Spidey has changed a few times in the comics too. Besides, if the day is ruined by Symbiote Spidey's actions, it will most certainly be true to the infamous Parker luck.

Also, first time poster here, though I may be the oldest lurker of this forum, since the days this was just Spider-man Hype. So, greetings to everybody, glad to finally make your official acquaintance.
