Spider-Man: Edge of Time

See, these points all make me realise something.... Many of the Spider-Man games had solid concepts with the potential to be perfected, but what happens for the next game? They throw everything out the window and go with a gimmick. USM 2 could have been amazing, because that combat system with tweaking could have been a lot of fun. Same with WOS, use it as a frame work, get someone to actually write a story and it could have been something. I would say the same with Shattered Dimensions too, they should open it up, make the combat, level design more interesting, stories and characters more relevant.

But you know what, I have a feeling we might be getting something slightly different yet again.

Many of them did have solid concepts, but one thing that always remained throughout each game was the fact that none really seemed to top the next. Alot of people (including myself) make mention of Assassin's Creed and GTA, each of those titles in some form or fashion top the predecessors. Why? because the developers behind the game take out the proper amount of time to fully polish the game. IMO, it seems like Activision's developers just randomly drop Spidey in NY and sprinkle thugs and villains throughout, instead of building everything around Spider-Man himself. The storylines for alot of his games could have very well been a Saturday morning cartoon, which isn't really a bad thing, but when you got Arkham Asylum which has pretty much become the pinnacle of superhero video games, Spidey is gonna need a extremely deep storyline in order to keep players interested.

Shattered Dimensions was a solid title, but quite honestly, the story for the game was not that great, actually it was pretty generic. I think the level design and gameplay are what saved the game from falling into the same category as the previous games

Yeah, but realistically, we're never going to get an amazingly polished Spidey game, due to Activisions need to have a game out per year. That said, why they feel the need to go back to the drawing board with EVERY game, instead of expanding on previous ideas, so they CAN develop the concept, is totally beyond me. It's like Activision has no faith in any of their developers anyway.

Activision makes a decent amount of money off of Spider-Man, but I think they would rather put more money into Call of Duty, seeing as those games are like summer blockbuster films almost. They may put out 2 Spider-Man games within the comic book world of Spidey and then a movie tie in to coincide with this new reboot.

Thinking about the point Wolvieboy made, and it is something that have crossed my mind before. This may very well be the first Spider-Man game since the PSX ones that is a straight up sequel. In the sense that it uses the same game mechanics and assets as the previous one. That is one reason to hope for them to not go open world or change the combat system all to much (even if it would be needed). We can get some refinements and evolutions of concepts instead of getting everything new.

I actually play Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man from time to time. My nieces and nephews love the games and I sometimes join them. Spider-Man 2 is still a great web-swing simulation, but the presentation is just horrid overall it just feels like a tech demo. An opinion I had when the game came out as well, still I've probably spent a hundred hours or so with the game so it was and still is something special.

Ultimate Spider-Man I replayed a couple of months before Shattered Dimensions came out, and still pop it in from now and then. The traversal is simplified and they took out some of the side missions from SM2 which, even if they were boring served a purpose. But overall it much more feels like a real game. Good story, good voice acting, a fighting system that required some finesse and a gorgeous city. If they had made a straight up sequel to this one, expanding the fighting and city for the new generation of consoles (PS3/360) it could've been a classic.

USM was dissaponting, IMO. I mean, I thought the combat was really cool, but the web-swinging was just odd. Though, I gave up reading USM in 2005, so maybe that's one of the reasons.

I don't even read comics, so the USM game, to me, was just something very, very different. I don't quite remember the swinging as I don't have it anymore, but back then, I didn't really have any complaints. Maybe I would now though, but I guess I will have to test that theory, haha.

Five days until the unveiling of the game. They'll probably release a trailer online before Wondercon like they did with Shattered Dimensions.

Yea the combat was probably the best in a spidey title. No stupid ass 39 hit air combos. I liked how he could bounce between individuals. I never really had a problem with the web swinging, it was a little more simplified than what was seen in 2, but i thought it was ok.
I like air combat and wall bounce fights, USM has a very simple combat system, it's fun, but too simple

^^ Ehhhh, I found the web-swinging in USm to just be slow and boring compared to most of the other Spider-man games such as Spider-Man 2, Web Of Shadows, etc. Personally, I think the best combat in the Spider-Man games is Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Web Of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, and somewhat, SPider-Man 3. The problem with the combat in the Spider-Man 3 game is that they didn't give us enough control over web attacks and things like that. It wasn't bad, just not 100%.
I didn't have a problem with that, control is really good, and several web attacks to tie and to hit
I missed the impact webbing from the PS1 games, that's one plus to Spidey 3 for having it back, smaller and in a larger no., but there

5 days are good to wait
This will be another game I watch the walkthrough of to decide whether I should get or not, but I'm not saying what I think of it

yeah....actually play it this time around Aziz :oldrazz:

I've been playing 'Just Cause 2' lately and I'm definately reminded of Spider-Man in some ways. That tether system they made would be perfect. You can hang guys from the ceiling, yank them over an edge, attach them to moving vehicles... you can attach nearly everything to everything. I really want to see something like this in a spider-man title.

Other things I'd like included:
*two handed swinging from 'Spider-man 2' aswell as the ability to tether and be towed by helicopters (or other things)
*Web climbing from 'Ultimate Spider-man' aswell as the added ability to slide down.
*Web yoyo from 'Spider-man 3'
*the perch/balance system from 'Shattered Dimensions'
*the webstrike from 'Web of shadows' *modified with a shorter range, no auto-aim, and the added ability to initiate by falling/jumping on someone (instead of ALWAYS using web to pull yourself towards them)
*A freerun/tumble button that when held, will cause spidey to automatically enter series of flips, handsprings and vaults to clear any obstacle in his path (similar to prototype)
*A targeting mode that allows you to aim your next shot while swinging/zipping or standing on the ground. Combined with a good skydive system (where you can control your rate of decent), you'd have much greater control while swinging.
*An ability to create a 'dragline' or bungee cord by reeling out web at a controlled rate. You could use this to spring upwards into the air during a fall, or gently lower yourself into the streets as you're swinging (To reduce high falls, which should hurt you more than they have in previous games).

These are all abilities I'd like to utilize in a freeroam game.

Also, adjustable webshooters with a feature for toggling between weblines, impact web and expandable nets.

I like a lot of those ideas. It'd be pretty cool to see some of that make it's way in to the next game.

I like those ideas, that modifier enabling him to freerun and do flips kinda reminds me of the way he moved in Marvel Nemesis if you used a modifier.

I'd much rather have Beenox wait & just work on a game for ASM. If they did that it could rival Spider-Man 2 for the best Spidey game.

And just to add to the great ideas you came up with

* No HUD- Spidey's health should be similar to Gears of War, the more damage he takes, you begin to see a spider emblem onscreen, once it's fully red, lights out.
*web physics- what I mean by that is that the webs actually can be looped around poles and what not, more objects can become ensnared in webs and possibly be used as weapons.
*better use of Spider-Sense - like I stated before, instead of it just being a slowmo button, it should detect enemies, weapons, and enviromental hazards.
*Notoriety - Spider-Man pretty much restores order whenever **** hits the fan, if you stop crimes with little to no damage to the enviroment, you should be awarded extra points to upgrade Spidey.
*Combat - combat should only consist of attack, counter, and webs. Spidey moves fast during fights, so whatever attacks you do should always be something spectacular.

What do you mean "wait"?

If Beenox were to make a good movie game they needed to start yesterday...

Please don't base this next game on the movie, seriously just use the games as inspiration. And if need be, have the Amazing Spider-Man costume as unlockable.

Why would this be based on the movie...? The movie comes out next year. No way they'd release the game a whole year before the movie comes out.

i actually thought this game was coming out next year.....**** me, never knew it was this year.

Wait, what? They're releasing a new game this year and they haven't shown it yet? Not even a teaser?

How the **** do these people make games? In an afternoon?
