Wait, what? They're releasing a new game this year and they haven't shown it yet? Not even a teaser?

How the **** do these people make games? In an afternoon?
We're getting something this weekend, just be patient.:yay:

Thats what im saying. Im sure they'll be showing something at E3 this year, but what the hell. They should just release it next year and spend another year working on it.

And is it true Batman Arkham City is freeroam?

I really hope this game is freeroam. And please please please, can we have the ability to change into and out of costume.

Well, it was announced a few months back, but yeah, a year is a short deleopment time for a game:yay:

If it's worth anything, at least we're getting Peter David writing the game and Josh Keaton voicing Spidey.

Well that is some great news. Josh Keaton is a really good voice for Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

Seriously, when the first Shattered Dimensions came out, I remember people making the comparisons to Batman Arkham Asylum. All you have to do is look at the development time difference to see these Activision Spidey games could never match that in quality.

I've been playing 'Just Cause 2' lately and I'm definately reminded of Spider-Man in some ways. That tether system they made would be perfect. You can hang guys from the ceiling, yank them over an edge, attach them to moving vehicles... you can attach nearly everything to everything. I really want to see something like this in a spider-man title.

Other things I'd like included:
*two handed swinging from 'Spider-man 2' aswell as the ability to tether and be towed by helicopters (or other things)
*Web climbing from 'Ultimate Spider-man' aswell as the added ability to slide down.
*Web yoyo from 'Spider-man 3'
*the perch/balance system from 'Shattered Dimensions'
*the webstrike from 'Web of shadows' *modified with a shorter range, no auto-aim, and the added ability to initiate by falling/jumping on someone (instead of ALWAYS using web to pull yourself towards them)
*A freerun/tumble button that when held, will cause spidey to automatically enter series of flips, handsprings and vaults to clear any obstacle in his path (similar to prototype)
*A targeting mode that allows you to aim your next shot while swinging/zipping or standing on the ground. Combined with a good skydive system (where you can control your rate of decent), you'd have much greater control while swinging.
*An ability to create a 'dragline' or bungee cord by reeling out web at a controlled rate. You could use this to spring upwards into the air during a fall, or gently lower yourself into the streets as you're swinging (To reduce high falls, which should hurt you more than they have in previous games).

These are all abilities I'd like to utilize in a freeroam game.

Also, adjustable webshooters with a feature for toggling between weblines, impact web and expandable nets.

I agree with all these points! I especially like the idea of having a freerun button. Also, while I'm not a fan of Just Cause 2 (a pretty bad game imo), I like the idea of being able to attach things to anything.

And just to add to the great ideas you came up with

* No HUD- Spidey's health should be similar to Gears of War, the more damage he takes, you begin to see a spider emblem onscreen, once it's fully red, lights out.
*web physics- what I mean by that is that the webs actually can be looped around poles and what not, more objects can become ensnared in webs and possibly be used as weapons.
*better use of Spider-Sense - like I stated before, instead of it just being a slowmo button, it should detect enemies, weapons, and enviromental hazards.
*Notoriety - Spider-Man pretty much restores order whenever **** hits the fan, if you stop crimes with little to no damage to the enviroment, you should be awarded extra points to upgrade Spidey.
*Combat - combat should only consist of attack, counter, and webs. Spidey moves fast during fights, so whatever attacks you do should always be something spectacular.

I completely agree with the bolded points.

However, I'm not sure about the rest. I've always liked having some kind of HUD to action/adventure games. The way Gears Of War handle it fits only shooters imo, because you die quicker in those games so it doesn't have to be exact. However, you should be more precisely aware of exactly how much health and power etc. you have in a Spidey game imo. Just don't have the HUD take 1/3 of the screen and it should be fine.

Also, to me, the Spider Sense has always only been about sensing immediate danger to me. Just that tingeling feeling. I know its functions have varied alot in the comics but I've never liked the whole radar stuff. Makes him too much "Batman" or "Dare Devil" if you ask me.

I don't know about the last non bolded point. As a player, I don't want to worry about keeping everything clean. Alot of times when Spidey fights super villains such as Rhino for example, massive destruction is pretty un-avoidable. I just want to focus on the battle itself.

I'm not out there to complain about your points, just pointing out my opinions on them :)

It's free roam in the same way the last game was free roam, however Arkham City is 5x bigger than Arkham Asylum.

interesting. Im still not sold on arkham city. Always been a spider-man fan, so lets hope we just get a fun game. I don't want them to try and compare it to Batman AA or AC at all, just give us what makes Spider-Man fun. and freeroam.

Well its going to be compared to Arkham Asylum/Arkham City because those are examples of how you do a successful superhero title. There is no reason why Spider-Man shouldnt be able to get an Arkham Asylum. He's a great character with an incredible rouges gallery and some fantastic elements that would make for a fun game. I should be able to have as much fun with a Spidey title as i did with Arkham Asylum and unfortunately, that hasnt even come close to happening.

Totally agree with this. Spider-Man deserves so much more than he's got.

No worries bro, TBH this new Spidey game would need to go all out in order to compete with Batman. Rocksteady went into Arkham Asylum without using any previous gameplay elements from other Batman games, and it offered a great experience. Spider-Man should be raising the bar for future Marvel games, it's bad enough that Sega is handling Marvel heroes in a half-assed fashion, Activision would really need to step outside the box.

While we're throwing around wish lists (I willfully choose to ignore the Activision discussions that is rearing its head again) I want to throw something in that I want. In a free roam game that is.

I'm talking about access to Peter's apartment. Yeah it may seem like a small thing, and it was in Spider-Man 2 and 3 (I dunno about WoS) but it is one thing that elevate the experience for me in any open world game. Not Peter's apartment, but having your own home being accessible. I don't know why but it just does it for me, in the various GTA's and Assassin's Creed 2 I would just roam the place. It helps me connect to the character more, it isn't the most important thing but I still like it if it's there.

It doesn't have to do anything either, although it is always nice if you can do something there. I.E. watching tv/changing clothes in GTA4. Even if it just added stuff from the story as props, like the mansion/hotel room in GTA: Vice City. Ultimate Spider-Man had May's house, but that didn't really do anything so it was a letdown for me. InFamous had Zeke's roof which at least scratched the itch a little. Just Cause 2 doesn't have anything and it sucks balls. (Not having a place of your own that is, the game is awesome otherwise.)

I just really like it, the first thing I wondered about Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was if you had a base or not. But whatever, maybe I should just go play The Sims.

i liked having peter's apartment as a location as well... it'd be fun if that's the area where you upgrade your skills and such.

I have just one question. Why does Activision only spend 1 year development on a Spider-Man game in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, but i really want to know the reason and I hope it isn't a stupid one.

Activision rings a bell...

Haha touche.

Activision just does not care about quality, they want quantity. They've even admitted this. They've publicly stated they want titles that can be put out on a yearly basis.

A few years ago, they were planning on publishing both the Ghostbusters video game and the remake of the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. A few months before those titles were set to release, they dropped them from their slate of upcoming games. They did the same with Brutal Legend. Their reasoning for dropping these game was because those games didnt "fit their business model", which is having titles that can release on yearly installments.

Thats the reason why we will NEVER get a AAA Spider-Man title as long as Activision holds the license. There is NO way they can make a AAA title in one years time.

I wish Disney would realize what Activision is doing causes harm to the Spider-Man name in video games and strip Activsion of the license.

That's why Activisions only games are Call of Duty, Spider-Man and DJ Hero...

They can't. Activisons licenses gives them property of Spider-Man until 2017...

Not to mention that if Disney does take it away from Activision, there's a strong chance it may go to SEGA, the greater of two evils.

No, they technically could, they would just have to buy out the contract. Which would cost Disney and at this point im sure they feel that it's not worth it, but imo, if Activision keeps going at this rate, they could potentially burn out Spider-Man with gamers. Look what they did with Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. Spidey could easily head down that path.

Look at the bright side. 90% of the Spider-Man games have been better than any of the other superhero games. (not including AA, of course) So Activision isn't the worst option, thankfully. When you think about it that way, at least be happy that it IS Activision and not Atari or SEGA

Doesn't mean Activision DOESN'T suck. SEGA and Atari just suck more...

I dont know about that. All of Segas failures have been movie based tie ins, just about ALL movie based tie ins suck. Activision doesnt care about anything but giving consumers a yearly release of their franchises. They dont care how poor the games get, just look at the Tony Hawk series.

Eh i disagree with that. Sega's failures have been due to movie based tie ins. Its really hard to make a good movie based game(budget, script, time constraints). I think any decent dev, if given the time, could crank out an ace game. Activision flat out, wont give their dev's that chance.
