Spider-Man: Edge of Time

Spider-Man is one of Activision's big money makers, really. They don't spend as much time on his games than they do on others, but they DO make a lot of money off of them simply due to fans who LOVE Spider-Man enough to buy every single one of his games.

They won't be giving the rights up so easily, they'll use him somehow in some way. It's honestly up to fans to force them to move in the right direction (especially since they'll have Spidey and X-Men licenses until 2017...that's a long time) or at least let them know that we want longer development times than 1 - 1 1/2 years.

M:UA 2's DLC was to remain gone but fans pushed so hard, they forced Activision to talk to Marvel and now it's downloadable until the end of 2010. Fans also got Carnage in M:UA 2's DLC. They got Ultimate Spider-Man and 2099 in SM:SD. If people can do that, then I'm sure we can push for better Spider-Man games.

I hope that you're right Ryuuie, I'd like to see Spidey get the same production values that Call of Duty is getting.

Modern Warfare 2 have sold over 20 million copies, Shattered Dimensions haven't even sold 1 million yet, and probably ain't going to anytime soon.

At this point I think the Spider-Man video game brand is so exhausted that it doesn't matter how good the game is, it won't make any spectacular numbers anyway. Thats why we won't see an AAA Spidey-game in a long time, it wouldn't be profitable.

Of course I hope I am wrong, but this is how I see it anyway.

Spider-Man 3 and WoS were Activision's top sellers when they released. SM:SD is new but it'll probably continue to sell. It just came out a few months ago so don't think it's over already. SM3 and WoS continued to sell well even after release date. Activision is not going to let the franchise go just because it's not beating CoD anyway, they KNOW people will buy his games. It will net them money no matter what people think about them because there are fans who simply don't care about the drama surrounding them.

Again, the only way to get that AAA Spidey game at this point is to let Marvel and Activision know how you feel.

How should we let them know?

I'm honestly pretty skeptical. They will give us features that everyone wants, but if you're talking about increasing their costs, we need more than just a few hundred people saying "Give me X."

I know the Spider-Man games make money, thats why they're pumped out yearly. And I know Activision won't give up the license, but I doubt they'll give the character the time and money he deserves because fans tell them to. He don't sell as much as any of the industries big franchises and never have so to expect Spider-Man to get the AAA treatment is kinda naive.

Now having said that I would gladly be proven wrong and just because it won't be a big budget game in the sense of Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed and GTA doesn't mean it can't be totally awesome.

Never know until you try.

They've been running a VIP survey on Hero HQ for a while now for the next X-Men and Spider-Man games. Activision (and Marvel) checks Hero HQ a lot for reviews and ideas from fans. They DO check places like SHH! but not very often.

http://www.herohq.com/en/feedback - You need VIP to do the survey, let me know if anyone needs it. I still have some invites.

Again, you never know until you try. People thought the DLC for M:UA 2 was lost forever until enough people *****ed and complained on Activision's forums (some making new accounts ONLY to complain and tell Activision that they would lose their business) until Activision talked to Marvel and got it brought back.

Now, if fans have enough power to do that AND to get Ultimate Spider-Man in SM:SD (the only reason he made it was due to the fans of the USM game wanting him in a new game), it's not impossible to get a good Spider-Man game (if not AAA, then at least better than SM:SD) if you give them enough ideas and REALLY push for what you want.

There's a TON of push for Shadowcat and Angel in the new X-Men game, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually show up.

I understand your skepticism but knowing how hard Activision had to work to get Marvel to approve M:UA 2's DLC again and knowing how hard the fans pushed, makes me think that's what we need to focus on.

I actually didn't know that Ultimate ended up in the game because of fan support, thats kinda cool. Again I'm a little skeptic that it was the only reason but a part of it sure.

And I would actually like an invite to that vip thingy, an official survey seems to be good place to start.

Exactly, pushing for a gameplay element is one thing, pushing for a better game as whole is something else. Activision has the potential to do some really great things with Spider-Man, but it seems like they focus more of thir attention on CoD, which I understand at this point is their big money maker. I wouldn't mind seeing what Rocksteady could do with SM, seeing that they put Batman under the spotlight as far as comic book game greatness.

The part about the "better game" is subject to the player. However, the least we could do is to push for a game play element that could give some people the "better game" that they want.

Rocksteady was bought by WB who owns DC Comics, I doubt that WB will let Rockstead make a Spider-Man game.

I haven't received anything. :(

Sent again! :)

Good point, I completely forgot about that, but seeing at how good Assassin's Creed is, I wouldnt mind seeing ubisoft do a Spider-Man game.

Actually, alot of Shattered Dimensions had stuff because of fan support I think. Just to name a few:

1) Linear levels instead of sandbox (alot of people wanted that, me included)
2) Unlockable costumes
3) No quicktime events (lots of people hated that in SM3 and WOS)
4) No Venom (lots of people wanted a break of him)
5) Better not-in-game cinematics

All of these points were stuff that alot of fans were loud about. I had some more in mind but somehow I forgot those while writing this :S but these are a few anyway.

So yes, they are actually listening alot to us. At least nowadays.

If WB were to acquire the license to Spidey, im sure they would put a dev like Rocksteady on the game, but thats neither here nor there due to the fact that license isnt up for sale anytime soon.

I'd really appreciate one of those. My screename there is Hypester.

Oh no doubt that they would. They'd want just as much money as Batman nets them.

I wonder if Marvel would ever do that though, sell the license to the company that owns their (friendly?) rival...

Then again, stranger things have happened. Disney buying Marvel was so weird, it took me about a week to really grasp that it actually happened. :P

Check your PM. :)

On a side note, who's buying MvC3 for PS3? I'm thinking about buying the Special Edition. I'm not very good at MvC2, but bah, I have fun anyway.

Well I've done the survey now. (Thanks Ryuuie, if you didn't get my pm.)

For what villains I would like to see in a Spider-Man game I chose:

Green Goblin
Since we haven't got a game that makes 616 gobby justice yet.

Shocker
Some might argue that he is overused but he is one of my favorite villains and hans't been in a game since 2005, he's a great boss to if you look at the movie games. Besides both Electro and Mysterio have been used just as many times in games (4) and Rhino have been used even more. All three in more recent games on top of that. (Not counting handhelds.)

Chameleon
Could potentially make for a really cool boss.

Hydro-Man
Why should Sandman get all the love?

My picks were:

Norman Osborn/Green Goblin - Like others said, this is arguably Spider-Man's biggest enemy, and has the potential to be a fantastic video game villain. No movie, no Ultimate, no hybrid of Noir/Ultimate. The ORIGINAL Green Goblin.

Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus - Like Goblin, another one of Spidey's biggest enemies. His 616 version has not appeared in a long time.

L. Thompson Lincoln/Tombstone - Since we've had Kingpin and Hammerhead in several games before, I thought Tombstone could make for a great choice for the mobster villain. As long as he's portrayed exactly like his Spectacular version.

Serena Patel/Doctor Octopus 2099 - I realized she was a very unpopular villain...so I suggested her to encourage the developers to troll the fans in the biggest way possible.:oldrazz:

Can you send me a PM? My name on there is Spider Man Hero. :yay:

SMH12: Check your PM! :)

I like the ideas people gave for Spidey villains. I wish I thought of Hydro-Man and Tombstone, really...but I'm all for Doc Ock 2099. haha

I'd love one of those too! :) My username there is Oscorp

Thanks man! My villain picks:

1) Green Goblin (616)
2) Scorpion (616)
3) Shocker (616)
4) Electro (616)

However......I totally forgot Chameleon! Should have him there instead of Electro :'(

Tombstone, thats a good one. Actually thought about him myself, but forgot it doing the survey. I was gonna put The Spot and Stilt-man in there as well but I figured no one else would mention them so why bother. I actually like to pick bosses they have to be a little creative to but in the game, and not just guys you can wail on. Even if there is nothing wrong with those either.

I mean Hydro-Man you can't hurt so much like the Sandman level seems to be in SD they would have to think of a cool way to implement him, and with Chameleon I figure it would be more you as a player trying to single him out in a crowd that would be the challenge. I think The Spot could be well done to having to rely on you spidey-sense to find out which way/portal to punch so that you can hit him. Like the old animated series.

Stilt-Man should merely be used as a gag boss akin to Shocker in Ultimate Spider-Man, just web his legs and be done with it. There are so many unused bad guys, I mean just in characters that you'd need to beat in a simple brawl there is Tombstone, Molten Man, The Enforcers etc.
