I honestly was fine with the kinds of quips/jokes Spidey had in the CW. Do I want more variety and to expand on the wittiness/sarcasm? Sure. But let's be real, one of the examples just posted above was Spider-man reading fat jokes. It's not exactly like that's the height of intelligent comedy. And don't get me wrong, I loved that moment in USM, but I think it's important to put it in perspective.

I don't think what we got in CW was perfect by any means, but I certainly didn't think it was bad, and I think it was a step in the right direction. Now we just need to see if they continue taking steps in that direction.

This is where I fall for the most part. I want more quips going forward and less "Awesome metal arm!" "Whoa! Those wings are bigger than Falcon's. I might have to call you a Vulture!"

Basically, he should actually taunt his opponents rather than point out their physical features

:funny: Well, he's gotta impress Mr Stark so he'll accept him eventually.

Thank goodness for Mr Stark, Peter would be so lost without him

It wasn't really quips or jokes but more how he saw things happen as they were happening. He was just making naive observations. IMO, TASM series was more of a step in the right direction as Spidey made actual jokes & witty remarks. Still, there's room for improvement for Tom. The Hulk quip in the Homecoming trailer is a major step in the right direction and more "Witty" than anything he said in Civil War.

Indeed. Where else will he get his tech from. Mr. Stark is the best, most awesomest, coolest, sweetest guy ever!! I wonder what kind of Iron plates Mr. Stark uses for his awesome suit? :drl:

Golly gee willikers, I'm sure they're mighty swell! I sure do hope he let's him join the Avengers

You rang?

Harry, I don't mind negativity. Someone having a differing opinion than myself or even outright bashing something that I love, bothers me little. In fact, if done in a level-headed way, negativity/differing views can promote or lead to an interesting convo in which both sides can gain either an appreciation or understanding of the other's pov and in some cases, learn something useful. It's the constant droning and repetitive nature of something that drives me away.

To the emboldened...I agree with this assessment. But...we are all guilty of this from time to time. It's perfectly ok to have an opinion of something and then later, change the tune and take on another view, well, at least if the reasoning is sound.

Point is, Harry, I don't blame you for being cautious about Homecoming. I have my own set of worries and reservations. I've not seen every post you've made but in my own observation, you do seem to leap right into the same negative grind whenever something new pops up. I'll tell you that I was not at all impressed with the first trailer for Homecoming. But I'm hopeful the second will improve my view.

This post is like a diamond in the rough. The last few pages are nauesating.

 Spidey should be the one to name Adrian Toomes "The Vulture' and Schultz "The Shocker" I'd like to see Spidey taunting them while fighting too. Since they're going the scientific route, I wouldn't mind his quips reflecting his intelligence either. SSM did this very well: "Can you say Halitosis? I knew that you could!!", "You're a cephalopod, i'm an arthropod... Uh, can't we just hug it out?" etc

More of this:

What's wrong with him asking if the wings are carbon fiber?

Well they're probably doing that with Michelle/ MJ. They say she's just Michelle but then she'll turn out to be MJ in the end. She'll probably be a combination of Miranda/Talia and Robin John Blake, as if that will be enough to satisfy fans by throwing a bone.

I hope not. That John Blake crap is a big reason why I hated that movie. Either do the character right or not at all. I understand changes but doing something akin to making the character unrecognizable is silly just don't use the character or do something else.

Instead of deactivating the suit, Stark should've had a built in feature that, when activated, turns Spider-Man into Iron Man instead. If he presses something, it could envelop Peter in Iron Man armour.

I imagine it will be similar to Tony's bracelets in the first Avengers movie only with certain parts on Peter's suit. I'd imagine the black parts on his suit, especially the web shooters. Would make a lot of sense for those black parts to be more functional rather than aesthetic.

In the movie he tells May that he's funding Peter to go to the science school and apparently there was going to be all new classmates since it was no longer Midtown, but they decided to just give them classic names instead.

wait.....has this been officially confirmed?

I know there were rumblings that some of the HS cast may have been meant as original characters but then changed to classic characters.

but, this is the 1st time I've heard that Stark is funding Peter to go the science school and that it was the intention to have an all new HS cast.

The way it makes Flash sound, it seems as if he looks down upon Peter for not being as intellectually gifted as him. It's almost as if he's an intellectual snob who hopes to best him academically and get one up on him verbally in a battle of wits. But Flash should never be able to outspeak Peter. And he seems the complete opposite of comic Flash who thinks science is for nerds.

One day Flash is going to grow up to become a CSI who likes to belittle his colleagues. Then some dark force is going to overtake him and make him into a villain against his will.

is that an Alchemy reference from the Flash show?

Yep. Because Flash Thompson is essentially Draco Malfoy here.

And Draco Malfoy is Alchemy on Flash.

So Flash will become the villain on Flash. :o

I wonder what everybody's reaction will be. Will it finally be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

it will be the final straw for me.

for me, MJ is sacrosanct and she's the highest on the supporting cast totem pole. She's second to Lois in terms of iconic LIs.

I can tolerate changes to other characters like Flash and Betty, even though I don't really like it.

but a drastic change to MJ?? nope. that's where I draw the line.

and if they don't even have the guts to come clean and be open about that change, hiding behind this whole coy Michelle crap, then that would piss me off even more. I'll leave the theater even more angry than I did after TASM. I wouldn't feel surprised at the "twist." I'll have felt suckered and deceived.

when the early screening reviews and impressions start coming out, I'm going to be keen on hearing anything about Michelle's character and if she's indeed MJ.

if she is, then I may even decide to sit the movie and watch it on Blu-Ray instead.

it all makes sense now. :o

but yeah, that's a good point. both Flash Thompson and Julian from Flash are jerk/bully type characters, who start out antagonistic towards the hero but then become friendly.

but they are fundamentally different character types. they are not interchangeable.

which is why the whole HS casting in Homecoming doesn't make a lick of sense. :o

unless it really is true that they started out as OC but then got changed to classic character names at the last minute.

it would be if I wrote the script for the new solo Batman film and I wrote an original villain who looks and acts nothing like Joker. but, at the last minute, the higher ups put pressure on me, saying that the film needs Joker, so I just call my villain Joker without bothering to actually rewrite the character to be Joker.

Wasn't it just an excuse to talk to Peter without blowing his cover to May?

I don't think he is funding him to go to school.

Couldn't he have sought out Peter somewhere else other than at his home? Maybe Stark could've even approached Peter after he foiled some bank robbers in his proto Spidey suit. That way we'd not only get an extra small scene of Spider-Man, but also it would avoid any need for Tony to fund Peter. Then Homecoming would be completely different with no need for a special science school and Peter would still have money problems etc.
