Still crazy to see how close he looks like traditional comic book Peter Parker.

and that's what fans generally want to see.

they want to look at the actor/actress, see their character on screen, and feel that they are literally the character ripped from the comic book pages.

that's what I really wanted with MJ in the MCU, since we haven't really got that with her character yet in the films.

but.....alas..........

You said it best in the Zendaya thread, X Knight, it wasn't really hard or a no-brainer for them to bring in Randy, Gloria, and Cindy and still have Liz, Sally, Flash and MJ be white. Even if Zendaya ended up being Michelle Gonzales or just "Michelle", there would've been an equal amount of diversity in the film including the villains, school faculty, and having strong adult female performances from Tomei and Daly.

true. and since he's an inventor, they could have made him Peter's "intellectual rival" instead of Flash.

it would be a different take on the character, for sure. but it would make more sense for him than it would for Flash.

they could also turn him into the Prowler while in HS, making him also a costumed rival for Spidey who later becomes an ally.

Hobie is a smart kid with a gift for invention/engineering. He wants to be recognized for his smarts in class, but he's constantly upstaged by Peter, which makes him jealous.

his family isn't very rich, so Hobie works odd jobs ( like window washing ) to help his family out. At some point, he feels desperate enough to turn to crime to alleviate his situation. Maybe he was counting on getting that scholarship to a major science university but Peter landed it instead.

so, he puts his skills to use to create the Prowler suit and turns to crime. He doesn't really want to hurt people, so he uses non lethal weapons and gadgets.

at first, he's a rival that Spidey tangles with. but, Spidey helps him realize the error of his ways, and Prowler later becomes a strong ally for Spidey.

I think if you're going for the Ditko/early Romita vibe, Holland is the closest lock yet. A more modern Peter like those by JRJR (one of my favorites) more closely resemble Garfield, but I think it's worth mentioning he's supposed to be an adult in all of the panels you posted--married and everything. He looks the most like the last panel, which looks like Bagley, but I'm not sure...

Either way, I don't think any of the 3 actors we've had yet have NOT resembled Peter Parker.

And this is what Marvel would argue could happen after Homecoming. Not saying you have to agree, (I don't fully) but there's no reason to assume MJ's character will suck based on what we know (which is NOT MUCH).

I too would have liked red hair and TSSM-like characterization but it's only fair we wait til we can see the film or at least know more about it to make judgements.

while that may be true, the key difference is that Liz Allan was not a major, key character like MJ.

Said the same thing 'bout Revolori as Flash and Jacob as Ned but both of 'em turned out to be true. But we'll see.
