Comics Spider-Man in January

i hope that's the case. Someone that has been a civilian for over 40 years of continuity suddenly getting super-powers just doesnt feel right to me...

Yeah, somethign MJ suddenly donning a suit and fighting crime just seems like a lame attempt to keep her in Peter's life without her actually being his wife.

How cool would it be if Peter was still married after OMD, and Jackpot was a new character introduced in OMD who rode on the "retcon wave" into our reality as a new sueprhero...as opposed to just being MJ?

VERY cool.

NEW AVENGERS ANNUAL #2
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Penciled by CARLO PAGULAYAN
Cover by JIM CHEUNG
Its wall-to-wall action and the end of an era for one Avenger and a major defection for another.

I'm guessing this is Spidey's departure from the NA?

I doubt it. Do they know what will happen to their sales if they do that? Most people I know read itbecause Spider-man's in it, including me, ironic that he does the least amount of stuff though.

Gotta love how the fans clamor for "classic" Spider-Man but, when Marvel actually releases classic stories, they reject it. :whatever:

I hope you're right but looking at these covers...well even I'm starting to lose my faith in how this is going to end...:(...no Marriage, MJ as a super-hero..gahhhh...

...fortunately there's still Nova, Thor, DareDevil, Captain America, the Initiative, Punisher (not that WJ crap) and a myriad of other Marvel titles shooting on all cylinders  ...so worse case scenario..I still have plenty to read and an opportunity to bring 3 new Marvel titles into the fold....:)

Have you ever read any classic Spidey? MJ never became a superpowered ally for Peter in the past, aside from an annual where she became Spider-Woman for an issue. Also, revamping a character to make him the same way he was 20 years ago isn't "Classic Spidey", it's "Rehashed Wannabe Classic Spidey", at best.

Oh yeah. It's a good book, but i doubt i'll continue with it if/when Spidey leaves...

Yeah, Spider-Girl, DD and Punisher are the Marvel books I cannot put down. Hell, even Ultimate Spider-man has won me back lately (mainly because I LOVE Immomen's art and the story is getting interesting). Runaways is good, but it's SO LATE since Whedon took over. I look forward to Young Avengers returning (ESPECIALLY since Brubaker is onboard) as well.

Let me recommend Captain America, Thor, and Incredible Hulk as well.

I fear Thor. JMS is in charge, and I just can't take it anymore. Cap was great when I read it, but, for some reason, no matter how many times I add it to my pull list, it doesn't end up in there. I don't get it. As for Hulk, same as Cap. I'll probably pick up the trades of what I've missed on Hulk and Cap with all the money I won't be spending on Spidey.

Can't wait. Anything that teams Spider-Man up with Iceman is fine by me.

Thus far JMS has done a pretty good job with Thor (it's still pretty early though)......for me, other than that little "Reed created the Universe" blunder, JMS's only short-coming has been his "Spider-man" (and yes that is a pretty big shortcoming :) ).......hell his take on the Silver Surfer in "Requiem" has already locked up my vote for best mini 2007 :)

Congrats on becoming a daddy

How is Spider-man teaming up with Superheroine MJ classic??...

I'm not talking about Jackpot, I'm talking about the tone of those solicits; sounds like 60's and 70's era comics. One More Day will probably suck, but Brand New Day sounds like a breath of fresh air for the Spidey books.

My theory on Jackpot: MJ receiving powers is part of whatever deal Peter makes. Regardless of what happens to May, Peter knows that her predicament was a result of her being close to Peter. In order to make sure that doesn't happen again, he has Loki/Mephisto/whoever empower MJ so that she can actually fight back if she's ever targeted by one of Peter's enemies.

Well, based on the cover of this issue, it looks like Liz Allen is going to become the Ultimized version of Firestar after absorbing the Human Torch's powers somehow. Interesting take.

And with One More Day and Brand New Day comes yet another version of the Spider-Man origin. Seems to me that this is further evidence, although circumstantial, that One More Day is going to result in a re-writing of Spidey's history and that this series serves to familiarize readers with the new continuity so as to not get people confused.

The main problem Blader is that while yea we all want classic Spidey stories back, its ultimately not worth it if they're gonna erase years and years of history in order to do it. Joe Q thinks that he can just push the reset button and start over and we fans will accept it. But how can we the fans forget everything thats happened in Spidey's past, especially recently? As much as i love classic 70's spidey, I would prefer it if they just moved forward have peter continue to age and mature, stay married, have a child, continue being a science teacher etc. And i think most spidey fans feel the same way no?

Yeah, I think I made it about 3 issues into JMS's FF run before canning it. I may give Thor a shot, if for no other reason than to watch him cream Iron Man, which I heard was awesome.

Thanks! It's, by FAR, the best news I've gotten all year!

The thing is, there's this one guy over at comic boards who claims to have have talked to somebody in Marvel retail and pretty much states that not only was twenty years worth of Spider-Man continuity being erased in order to get rid of the marriage but that some of the storylines coming up in Brand New Day could have still happened even if Peter and Mary Jane were still married and that done so without having to erase and re-write continuity.

Thor #3. :word:

I would actually buy Thor just because JMS is in charge. He seems to have a love for writing mystical origins, ect. And there's nothing there for him to really mess up. So far I have up to #3 and it's pretty decent so far. Though it's just starting out and you have to wait for it to pick up.
