Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse News and General Discussion Thread

The drops are certainly impressive. The box office range I was looking at was Lego Batman (also excellent) and it passed it this weekend. I don't know where it'll end up but at this point it's all gravy.

Back to back weekends with the best hold in the top 10 for Into The Spider-Verse. It's also the only movie in the top 10 to post an increase over the extended 4 day MLK weekend. 180m is pretty much a lock at the rate it is going. The movie will get a further boost at the domestic box office with Academy recognition in the offing. Also, the digital release date shouldn't come before late February and DVD/BluRay units are rumored for a March release so the late legs won't be crippled by availability through physical or digital copies.

At any rate, I don't think anything can actually pump the brakes on the legs of this one. It's very long & sexy :ilv: :hrt: :ilv:

It's a great movie. But I wish even more people knew about it and were supporting it with their dollars. This desrves to be spoken of as being in the company of some of the best the CBM genre has put out.

If it wins a best picture Oscar, it will have done what no other CBM has done (unless BP wins), in any medium. That would pretty much cement it's place for being in the conversation.

Agreed. I keep trying to reign in my hype and my excitement over this film. Just like with anything new, I think to myself, "Was it really THAT GOOD?"
Then, I attempt to pick it apart. I'm having very little to no luck doing that with this film. It's really THAT GOOD...and the more I think about it, the better it gets! Not just "for a comic book movie" either. It's a great film in its own right, and it deserves the recognition of such a film.

It's official! Academy Award Nominee, baby! It just needs ONE MORE WIN...!

Dear Academy,
If the film "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" fails to win the Oscar for "Best Animated Feature", then your awards show is every bit the pretentious joke everyone says it is. YES, it's a superhero film. YES, it is about SPIDER-MAN. It is also one of the best FILMS this year, and by FAR the best animated feature of those nominated. Choose wisely.
Sincerely,
EVERYONE

The Incredibles and Big Hero 6 won the award and they are both superhero films, so I don't think that would be an issue. What I've noticed is that for all the flack the Oscars get for not recognizing popular films in certain categories, animation is certainly not one of them. In fact being popular seems to be something valued. This is likely a big factor why I still see some 'experts' picking the 1.2 billion Incredibles 2 to win it (aside from the film being terrific). The track record speaks for itself. There is no denying that Spider-Verse has all the momentum though.

I know I am biased a little, being a Spider-Man fan, but from the films I've seen on this list, Spider-Verse is definitely the better movie.

As for the academy, I still remember them giving Life of Pi the academy award for visual effects over Avengers, and I remember Dark Knight not getting a best picture nom...so I always have my guard up when it comes to those guys.

At the end of the day, we got an awesome film that will outlive whatever film wins best picture this year.

Yeah, for my money Spider-Verse deserves to win because it's a game-changer. Simple as that. The fact it's about my favorite character is definitely a nice bonus. :word:

Spidey and the Avengers should win their categories this time, hands down.

A year ago I wouldn't have even given a second thought to the possibility that Spider-Verse is on the list of potential Oscar winners. I mean, this is the same animation studio that brought us the Emoji movie, lol.

Seriously though, Spider-Verse deserves this award. Game changer? Yes. Features Spider-Man? Sure. But it's best asset is that it's a refreshingly great movie--from top to bottom. And imo it bests every other animated effort.

The Lego Movie begs to differ. That "Everything is Awesome" got a nomination was only salt in the wound.

Well, as someone probably a bit less biased, whose been jaded and burnt out on Spidey for years and is a massive Incredibles 2 fan, I have to agree this is the film that deserves to win. My love for this film has little to do with any particular love for Spider-Man, and everything to do with this being brilliant, wildly inventive and groundbreaking filmmaking.

I still remember Lego Movie not even getting nominated, despite being better than all the other offerings that year...but not even nominated..? That was just unbelievable.

I mean, I love Incredibles 2. But this totally deserves the Oscar over Incredibles.
