Im all for them making a game on the Spectacular Spider-Man series. I love that show, one of my fav's on TV now.
Gotta agree with you, Shocker. Nothing wrong with the free roamers and I don't think we need to shelve them completely. Just give it a rest for a while and bring it back to basics. Focus on a good story with intriguing gameplay instead of just the swinging mechanism and nothing else.This may be a controversial statement but I for one do not want to see free-roam. That's right I said it! Free roam games just tend to get really repetitive and ridden with glitches. Unless the game gets years put into it (which I doubt is the case here) it tends to disappoint. So I want closed environments and independent level design, or whatever you call it. Anyone agree?
This would be the best spider-man game PERIOD
-Free Roaming (but when entering a building, or certain boss fights they may play more like Spider-man 1 or the N64/Ps1 games.
-Weather changes... rain, snow, seasons. I'd love for special days too like around Christmas you see the tree in Rockefeller center, in the fall the macy's day parade, colored light changes to the top of the empire state building
- Arial battles...
-Battle damage to buildings, cars, etc... if the rhino throws a car and it hits a building, there should be damage.
-missions the follow comic stories (not movie).... let us relive it all: (first battles with villains, captain stacy's death, gwens death, sinister 6, etc etc... )
-include alot of villains (Doc Ock, green goblin, venom, vulture, electro, sandman, kraven, calypso, lizard, hobgoblin (a goblin war with spidey stuck in between would rock), mysterio, rhino, shocker, scorpion, carnage, hydro man, spot, morbius, hell even give me newer people like morlun.)
-include allies (black cat, prowler, daredevil, human torch, iceman, firestar, cloak & dagger, silversable, green goblin (harry)) and make some or all of them unlockable to play as.
-Co-op or online mode that lets other players join a room where you can be allies to do team ups
-Multi-player free for all battles (basically you pick a stage (ex construction, rooftop, central park, stadium, etc..) and you have a 4 person battle with allies and villains (think smash brothers mixed with marvel nemisis (just with actual good moves).
-stealth missions
-peter parker missions (photo camera was fun, but let it be free roam. not challenges) this will earn you money to get web cartridges, costume repairs, rent, the occasional mj date, Just don't make it so difficult that you're stuck doing soooo many of those missions versus being a superhero
-free roaming villains. After you beat a villain for the first time, they may randomly appear again throughout the city. Say you're riding on a car and you hear the radio say "rhino broke out of Ryker's island, be cautious" and later when your web swinging through town you see an explosion and it's rhino. The game should focus alot on power and responsibility. You can choose to fight him, or pay the consequences of letting him get away.
I hope this game's been in development atleast since Spider-Man 3.
That doesn't need to be in a Spider-Man game, at all. A few allies popping up is fine, but no more than a handful and they definitely do not need to be playable. If you want to play a game as other hero's, go play Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, this needs to be a Spider-Man game, not Spider-Man and Buddies. The co-op would also be a waste of dev time. Sure Spider-Man has team ups every now and then, but by and large he is a solo hero, hes not an X-Man.
Other than that, I'm pretty much with you. Id trim the villain roster as i think its a bit excessive but i like most of your ideas. LOVE the random villain attacks idea.
I think its fine to include other marvel characters, but its not necessary to have any of them playable... and then theres the whole licensing/copyright issues.
I think we need to be a little realistic in our wishes lol. Everyone would love a free roam game, where you could be every marvel character, and do anything, but they're more than likely going to just expand upon what spidey games have come before this one, so what are some ways to help that?
As far as 'proper and real based web swinging', I don't know what else you want to make it realistic... I think that's pretty much been developed to death, and is fine. Combat, just needs to be a mix of everything thats come before. Web strike or air combat was great in WOS, but a little more variety would be sweet.
I think the main thing should be a comic based storyline, that would be tops. And I think the main area that COULD use a massive overhaul is looking at side quests and side missions...
But Dusk, Co-Op and design for different players in a Free Roam game isn't just an add on feature, it'd be an enormous thing to include, and I don't want something like that to take up all the focus when there are so many other things for them to focus on.
I like the idea of a proper baxter building and stark tower and stuff... I'd love to be able to do more than stand on top of it, and look at a sign. It'd be cool to enter it, and talk to people, maybe do trivia quiz's or something with characters to unlock things, I don't know. Kind of like the bases in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, I guess.
I think Venom's been given a good enough go as a playable character... I'd rather they just focus on making spidey the best character they can. Every time they include another character, it splits the focus and makes spidey just that little bit more generic. Venom ruined Ultimate Spider-man for me... If I wanted to just play as a watered down hulk, i'd play Hulk: UD.... and considering this game is made by Sierra, Venom would just play as a cross between Alex Mercer and Hulk anyway, which while cool, is nothing new.
I agree with the bouncing style... I always think of in the first Spider-Man movie, when Spidey takes out the thugs in the armoured car for the photo op, he kinda bounces his way around and over the thugs, with really well placed dodges and hits. It kinda reminds me of a more acrobatic free flow combat from Batman Arkham Asylum, or AC... I think that would really enhance the ground based combat for Spidey....
Then for air combat, base it more on the WOS model.
