Yeah, great idea... If you want a challenge don't level... What a great game.

Well part of that is the fact that you can play through all powered up. Of course it's going to be easy, try and do it without picking up any of the upgrades.

Haha, that is a terrible suggestion. The game should know that you are upgrading and be challenging the whole way, you shouldn't have to avoid part of the game just so you don't breeze through. That's poor game design.

I thought it was the best SM game since SM2. Definitely flawed, but still really fun. The combat was better than previous games, but they OD'ed on it. The whole game was nothing but fighting, fighting, fighting. It got old real fast. There's so much more you can do with Spider-Man in terms of gameplay than just beating up bad guys.

I hope that one day we'll finally get some of those sneaking levels back from the old games.

I can not stand that in games. Maybe this isn't what you mean, but whats the damn point of leveling up if your enemies just level up with you? I think Oblivion did this and i always hated that. I find that to be a cheap way of making a game difficult.

I agree. It should be easy on the second play-through.

After finishing it more than four times and finally unlocking all four endings, what I have to say:

DESIGNS:
  • They scaled characters up, and scaled buildings down at the same time, that made moving through the city a lot faster and easier, and slashed out any hope for going inside a building during free roaming
  • There are two Daily Bugle buildings, one with an outline like the movie building (after the movies I saw that building in lots of pictures, what is it a building of?), and the trailer Bugle (I passed on it, don't recall where, but it's somewhere near)
  • Eyes are fixed, that's the only improvement to character designs from Spider-Man 3. Characters are glossy
  • City has too much focus of yellow in it
  • Central Park is boring compared to the one from Ultimate Spider-Man
  • Vehicles look the same thing, no change from Spider-Man 3, they look good. Small boats look like they came from Fisher Price
GAMEPLAY:

  • Fight and destroy, fight and destroy, fight and destroy, save some small amount of civilians, nothing more to do. The best they managed to pull for a sandbox PS3 level game
  • Wall combat is a good improvement
  • Sure you use different attacks a lot, but most of the time web-zip attack is needed to be used, and there are some times when enemies break your webline more than once, annoyingly prolonging the fight in a useless way
  • Get tossed far behind if anyone hits you
  • Symbiote power is mainly extra tentacles, only after further upgrading symbiote attacks become more powerful
  • Charged jump goes no higher than one story up, but moves the whole street forward, nothing more
  • If you scale Spider-Man down a notch and scaled the city up a notch, you'll have the same scales of Spider-Man 3, but the web swinging has no tricks, and relatively the 7 floors jump upwards using swing jump is smaller than the 5 stories up using the same move in SM3. I discovered in SM3 I can change the length of the line I swing from, in this game the line length is standard
  • When it comes to fight & chase at the same time, you don't know when precisely you must attack and when does attacks hurt, and the damage you inflect the boss is healed suddenly (Electro & Venom fight 2)
  • Web-Zip upwards by simply tapping on the swing button
  • Switching between suits is nice and smooth, but you always know the next move would be the same if you play all symbiote, or switch between suits, or red suit, different attacks for both suits
  • Wall jump always goes up, you can hardly direct him to another direction
  • Final boss fight has to be the most epic final fight, you fight a Cerberus Venom with two extra heads, you have to strike the head coming out one time everytime it moves forward, 3 times/head to destroy it. Middle head remains last like the middle finger pointed at the gamer for enduring this atrocious level where you have to stick to the same move 12 times in a row. If no head moves forward, all heads spit symbiotes for you to fight
  • To play the game again with all upgrades, let all credits roll, load saved state, let credits roll again, load saved state again, and you listen to Moonlight Sonata with Spider-Man sulking, play the game again

STORY:

  • Game starts with a post apocalyptic world, and all there is to do is to fight and fight and fight then save one guy, and fight, and fight, until you reach MJ and promise her something (WHAT?!), then comes the figure of "WTH?!" sort, blackened, and it covers Spidey with symbiote. Leave this page, FLASHBACK
  • Venom steps on Spider-Man, symbiote suddenly shoots an offspring, fight Venom, go to injured MJ who calls Spider-Man with his first name in front of the paramedics, follow ambulance to the hospital
  • Two street gangs decide their war has to be settled in front of the hospital, enters Luke Cage, fight, and start playing as the puppet Spider-Man is for the entire game, Spider-Man, the most lonesome superhero, who barely took orders even as an Avenger. A story disrespecting its title character like that is already so awesome
  • Luke Cage teaches Spider-Man how to use his powers, cause Spider-Man who starts as a teenager doesn't know his potentials, and doesn't know gangs after his years of experience street gangs in lots of ways, even their motives and here he is a New Avenger and with a wife, cause he was raised in a nice neighborhood in Queens?
  • Spider-Man goes to Kingpin towers, Black Cat comes out after she apparently robbed something from Kingpin, aided by his men against the Spider, Moon Knight comes in and tells Spider-Man to stop being a thief and return what he stole (like the guy doesn't know every superhero at the time, look in Times Square to find a Civil War billboard from the Daily Bugle)
  • Fight ends, Cat goes away crying, Spider-Man reaches her, she wants to take over the city with him?! I see a character majorly disrespected, and not only the title character. Choose black, you take orders from her. Choose red, take the exact same orders from Moon Knight. Hey, how about he takes orders from Kingpin while he's at it
  • Millions of the symbiote offspring's come out, and the comic symbiote tires after one offspring only (and Wolverine asks you about comic events)
  • There are way too much stupidity in the story, so I'll skip to the final fight on a hellipad on range of the symbiote killer the Tinkerer builds, it doesn't kill the symbiotes. Venom is magically there instead of losing most of the symbiote

AUDIO:

  • Voices of Wolverine, Black Cat, and Luke Cage are great
  • Voices of other characters are decent
  • Voice performance of Kingpin sounds like he's an X-Men: TAS reject, aside from the last 2 lines he says, his performance is too slow and annoying
  • Soundtracks: With exceptions of Beethoven's masterpiece, they are all mediocre
OVERALL:
What a badass game, best Spider-Man game in a long time, heck, best Spider-Man game ever, easily better than the awful Spider-Man 3 and the mediocre Spider-Man 2 games from Treyarch, every other Spidey game before this masterpiece is crap. This game is just so awesome I prefer playing the PC version of Spider-Man 2 to this one

SCORE: 1.5/10
not that it is wrong to enjoy playing it for some factors, I play it times like choosing the black path after defeating symbiote Electro and letting Symbiote Spider-Man hammer him with punches and call him "UNBELIEVABLE LOSER"

I'd rather play [PROTOTYPE], cause it's fun to let soldiers attack each other, and it definitely has better soundtracks
