Comics Spider-Man unmasked press conference

Why would Deb Whitman write a tell-all? It's not like she and Peter were together that long or even that seriously. And she left Peter on good terms.

More likely Betty. She went through more turmoil with Peter because of Spider-Man.

That's why I thought Betty was a posibility too, she has much more "history" with spidey than Deb does. Betty and Pete spilt up during some heavu times and even though they're okay now, I don't see her handling the new revelation too well.

Yeah, that right! Betty was Peter's first girlfriend and they really went through some crap together in the early part of Amazing Spider-Man. It's a heavy possibility.

Plus Betty always had a rift between her and spider-man because of her brothers death. I think her connection with spidey is what makes her a bigger possibilty than Deb. It's not just the troubles with Pete, but spidey as well, Deb doesn't really have that.

Revealing his identity kills Spider-Man.

Because he is the dichotomy between those two roles. He's not just a guy in tights, he's also that "everyman" that we all can identify with. No longer.

Now, JQ may think this is a clever (like he could even define that word) way to get Peter out of the Mary Jane death trap by providing a poigniant reason why Superheroes MUST keep their masks: the death of the guy everybody loves' sweet wife. That would make for a dramatic end to Civil War but you still end up with a dead Spidey.

I agree 100%. All this unmasking is doing is making Peter look like a rather irresponsible person and just seems to be done for the imminent death of an important character (I differ on who exactly it will be- they probably want to "surprise" us) to validate a side Marvel has said time and time again they're not trying to make the readers side with.

It's funny how they call him the Hamlet of the Marvel Universe. Last time I brushed up on my Shakespearean reading Hamlet didn't molt and start talking with spiders at the end of the play.

If anyone's going to die from this, it's probably May. There was that scene at her grave in ASM #500, after all...

I don't know if MJ will die because of all this because that would basically prove all the upset fans were right (and Marvel wouldn't want that now would they). We all say this is an irresponsible move that Pete would never make and killing MJ would just strengthen that argument.

How about they NOT kill anyone for YET ANOTHER SHOCK and just do some good damn writing instead?

Amen.

No kidding.

Though I'm not a fan of this going public bit in the slightest, I am interested to see how it plays out.

So long as people continue to buy whatever the hell Marvel puts out regardless of how good or bad it is, nothing will change.

Expect good stories after the next time the industry collapses under it's own weight (like in the 90's). Then they'll have to tell good stories to get back the readers they drove off. Just like last time.

Though I agree people should start protesting this change with their wallet, I get the feeling that if we wait around for that sooner or later there will be no industry to rebuild. :(

Didn't Deb Whitman see Peter putting his costume on? And than later to save his own secret identity he worked with her pyschatrist to convince her that she was crazy?

Yikes

It'll be fine. DC is doing A-OK.

No he didn't. The psychiatrist went to Peter and asked him to help Deb out of her obsession over believing he was Spider-Man. Peter did it with good intentions, and at the moment of truth, he even admitted to Deb that he was Spider-Man. She didn't believe him and believed that her thinking he was Spider-Man was ridiculous.

But as Spideylover89 pointed out, that's nothing compared to what Betty went through with Peter because he never trusted her with his secret.

Her brother was killed, and she blamed Spider-Man. Peter's double-life ruined her relationship with him, and even impacted her marriage to Ned.
