Comics Spider-Man's Greatest Story Arcs

Oh, and I'll be the oddball that gets flamed for saying... Clone Saga.
I'm with you there. for someone who had just come into comics at that time, it was incredibly fresh, I would have never started getting an interest in it if it wasn't for that.

Bold move, they should have run with it, especially considering the lull in stories that came after it.

everything after and including gathering of five was turd...

Phew. I'm glad someone agrees with me here. At first I wasn't going to post that at all, to avoid flames:ninja: . But I really thought alot of the clone saga was an extreme emotional experience if some would give it a chance. After all, it's not like Peter ended up being a clone, which is usually what fans complained about.

exactly...

Kraven's Last Hunt is a favorite of mine, but I like its "sequels" too:
Soul of the Hunter
first appearance of Alyosha Kravenoff in Spectacular.

Electro's "power up" in ASM was a good read too, as was Funeral Arrangements, featuring the Vulture.

even though the artwork was below par, i loved nate and spidey going up against electro although nate got jumped pretty badly there, he could have taken electro on his own fairly easily but then again, you never know...

I actually enjoyed ben being the real one, it really added to the character and it was fantastic having two of them together, both wanting to take full responsibilities, one as spiderman, one as a father but realising they didn't have to carry the burden alone for a change.

that fight they both have against three sentinels (in onslaught) is out of this world and showed even if peter was the clone, he was just as badass as anyone else out there.

I just got my Son Of The Goblin tpb. And it is really awesome. Well worthy to be a classic. When Harry died, I can't help but cry...just a bit :D

Just a suggestion here...when posting what stories you guys liked you should also post the issue numbers and specific title it appeared in (y'know, for the ones that like to track down the actual back issues :))

I'll be posting some of my fav stories later on...gotta run up and look through some long boxes.....

Yeah, that was a cool story. Though I thought it was explained that Nate couldn't tap into electro's mind because brain waves are based around electricity, wasn't it?

that's probably why but there was so much more he could have done though...

Kinda a rare one here- I always liked Spirits of the Earth.

Other all time favs include- The Child Within & Original Hobgoblin Saga- ASM #238-251.

I enjoy the Death of Captain Jean DeWolfe story. I hope it can be collected in new TPB soon.

I can hope right?

It's already collected in Wizards best of Spider-Man volume.
I have it.

Amazing Spider-man (vol1) #226-The toad and frogman issue..really funny stuff.

Amazing Spider-man (vol1)#227- Spider-man chases a robber into the suburbs..another funny issue.

Amazing Spider-man (vol1) #346-347- A classic Venom two parter by David Michelinie and Erik Larsen.

Spectacular Spider-man (vol1) #186-188- "Funeral Arrangments". One of the BEST Vulture stories you'll find.

Spectacular Spider-man (vol2)#1-14- Paul Jenkins brings us some modern classics to the Spidey mythos as our hero battles Venom, a new, deadlier Doc Ock, and Morbius.

I thought about it some more and in chronological order:

"If This Be My Destiny"- Amazing Spider-Man #31-33
"Doc Ock Wins"- Amazing Spider-Man #53-56
"The Six Arms Saga"- Amazing Spider-Man #100-102
"Death of Gwen Stacy & Norman Osborne" Amazing Spider-Man #121-122
"Clone Genesis"- Amazing Spider-Man #141-149
"Spider-Man Meets The Black Cat"- Amazing Spider-Man #194-195
"Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaut"- Amazing Spider-Man #229-230
"Death of Jean DeWolff"- Spectacular Spirder-Man #107-#110
"Kraven's Last Hunt"- Web of Spider-Man #31-32, Amazing Spider-Man #293-294, Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132
"Venom Returns"- Amazing Spider-Man #315-317
"The Show Must Go On"- Webspinners Tales of Spider-Man #10-12
"Blue"- Eponymous Graphic Novel.
"Sin's Past"- #509-514
"The Evil That Men Do"- Eponymous TPB.

I realize that I'm going to get chewed out for Sin's Past...and while I don't like it in terms of continuity...few Spidey stories have the emotional gravitas of that arc. When Spidey stands on the top of the bridge and says "I promised myself I'd never come back here..." it has almost the emotional weight of Gwen's original death.

The sad part is that he's already been there craploads of times since Gwen's death saying pretty much the same thing. Old hat.

Fair enough..but it was more powerful when he saved Gwen's daughter than any previous visit, imo.

basically everyone would love Sin's Past if Gwen had been impregnated against her will or something. It was the fact that she gave it upto Norman that makes people hate the story.

Nope, would have hated that too.
What's not to hate about Sins Past? the whole thing was a piss take.

It's well written and gripping...well drawn. Poingiant. Lots of great juxtaposition of MJ vs. Gwen...but it would work better as an out of continuity/ alternate continuity thing.

Okay, **** it...I just re-read Sin's Past and yeah.

It's a 5 star telling of a 1 star concept. All catharsis, no logic.

It's well written

You could not be more wrong.

and gripping

It’s laughable.
None of it fits into continuity and JMS completely misses who Gwen was.
Like I said, a piss take.

...well drawn.

Perhaps, if you don't mind Jason Priestly and Liv Tyler standing in for Peter & MJ.

Poingiant.

I think the words you are looking for is tiresome and ill conceived.

Lots of great juxtaposition of MJ vs. Gwen

No there ain't.
Peter get's pissed over what- according to JMS happened back in the day, and then from this we consider MJ's perspective that for Peter Gwen's memory is so enshrined. So what- we already knew that. Plus it's written so that MJ has kept a huge secret from her husband all these years.

There is nothing great about it, it’s a fowl turd of an attempt at a Spider-Man story.

You could not be more wrong.

.

I'd rather have that than Jr jr's big fat **** Peter with his big square head.

Comic characters are generally better when drawn not as 90's celebrities. I hate the photo-realistic look anyway. The panals of Spidey unmasking himself make him look like the dad in this XXX *** ****** comic that a STUMBLED across on the internet once and thats very disturbing.

I still maintain that Deodato's Peter Parker looks a lot better than Jr jr's.
