No probs... email me some outside action pics if you get a chance.

Sorry to interrupt ...

I had posted awhile back about mesh possibilities for Spider-Man eyes...and thought I'd come back to report for those who are still trying to make suits themselves.

After a lot of testing...this might have been posted before but it bears repeating...the best/tightest mesh that I've found is the mesh from coffee pot strainers. For a movie look obviously you spray pearlescent white on the front and black on the back. For a comic look, flat white on the front...and optional black on the back.

For a fabric, we've found some white curtain fabric that when double layered gives the see out but dont see in from at least 5 feet away...and in pictures (even up close) is just like the comics.

Just thought I'd discuss ;)

Good post, i never actually knew how they were made. Thanks

Finally bought some pre-dyed lycra to start printing on btw :)

hi all its beena a while but i saw stanlee wannabes post on the mesh for the lenses and brads pix of his new plastic and figured id jump on the band wagon and post some older pix for the new member of my shell and lenses so you can see the micro coper mes that is painted that alfrid was talking about hope you all enjoy

oh the pictures of the spidey suit is not my suit just wanted to say that to avoid any bs lol it is a customer of mine that ordered a kit from some 1 else and just used my lenses and shell and i loved how the picture turned out

and this picture i wanted to do as a sepirate post that way it did not get confusing. in the above post you see pictures of my shell and lenses now in this picture you will see on the right and side pictures of the original shell and lenses used in spiderman 1 these pix are on the internet in the movie book and in the dvd special features widly seen by this time

on the left is my lenses and fraims that were made to look just like the originals i figured this picture would be the best to show just how close thay are. the lenses are oakley poly carbinate curved lenses like the film the mesh is the bicro mesh painted pearl white on the front and mat black on the back and the fraims are graphite with the places for a magnet and webbings

also you do not need the shell for these to work if ordered as just the lenses i do not add the clips or magnets that way it will work on any costume and you do not have to modify them only as a set of shell and lenses will the clips and magnet be added to the fraims as that is the only time they are needed

also these will work on any sellers spiderman costume both movie or comic and the shell also will work with any regular spandex costume from low end zentai to high end custom made pieces that way any costume can keep that spidey face

if you have any inturest in a set or have any questians pleas email me at [email protected] or visit my site at www.jesterfx.com pleas do not PM me as i do not come one her all to often and some times my pm gets messed up and i want to make sure i can respond to any questians

Nice job Jester... those frames / lenses look great.

thanks brad the only thing i honestly hate about them is the cost :( the lenses alone to have cust cost me an arm and a leg i wish i could bring the cost down a little more but i go through a supplier that gets his lenses from the same distributer oakley orders from so i definatlyu am getting what i pay for and its great to offer oakley lenses but i am looking in to some cheaper lenses that way i can offer them at a lower cost so i can have more pople enjoy thes and the difference in the quality wont be noticible it just the tencile strength of the lense and the scratch resistance

Hello everyone,

Great suits and ideas everyone. I'm new to this forum and have been on and off with wanting to create a Spiderman suit or a Venom one . But just wanted to chime in and say hello.

anyone know where i can buy plain suits (and which is better - spandex or lycra?). I'm looking to make a "homemade" suit - something that looks good, but at the same time is conceviable that an average joe can make, so i don't need to get anything screen printed - I'm just looking for a standard "cat suit"; though I might be hitting you up, Jester, for some spider symbols...

a buddy of mine recently made a pretty sweet Mandalorian outfit. He used something like moldable plastic to make the armor. I think i might do that to make some eye frames; that way I can make them exactly how i want.

edit: its called Sintra, if anyone is interested.

you can cut it to shape, heat it up, mold it, then when it dries you can sand/carve/etc.

Sintra's kind of the "Kleenex" or "Xerox" of rigid PVC products. Most sign supply wholesalers offer a "house" brand for much cheaper (about $22 wholesale for a 4'x8'x3mm sheet). If you're in a larger city (especially) see if you can find a sign shop to get you one. Even if they double wholesale, with tax you can get out the door for under $50 with enough PVC to last a while. :cwink:

You can go on ebay and search for zentai if you like. I suppose you could buy a blue catsuit and red catsuit. Cut the red one in the right shape and sew/glue/ it down over the blue one...then draw lines over it. That's not going to be easy by any means, but just taking what you said you wanted to do and brainstorming.

Thank God! :woot: No affense though to anyone here who was or is a Spider-Milk Fan.. he reminded me alot like Spideyfan27 which most of you know about always coming up and posting fake replicas etc proclaiming it to be his own.. although maybe Spider-Milk's work was real or maybe not who knows but to me alot of it seemed fake.

Thanks 4 the vote of confidence spiderman 0884:)

Geeze.

I have just comeback for the very first time in months I tell you, been going through some trouble. I got made homeless at the start of the year and lost my work shop.. Ever since then I have just been trying get back on my feet.. Stay tuned though everything I promised will be coming soon I hope, like my website.. Just more important things to concentrate on...

It seems the forum hasn't been that productive as I've only missed maybe 10 or ore pages any way. Brad your batman costume looks spot on!

Also spiderman 0884, please don't compare me to spiderfan27 or anyone else.

Also for people asking for the free pattern I have decided you need 300 post or more so don't ask until you accomplish this.

Hey Spidermilk... thanks man. That suit was an obsession for a few months... way to much work involved in making them though.. My hats goes off to anyone making one..

Brad.

Ahhh. I forgot how much I loved this thread..I probably haven't been too active on here since like 2007. That has to change. :D Still a fantastic amount of costumes going on here. I'll have to actually get to doing one of these, and take the time necessary to do so. Thankfully there's a wealth of experience and knowledge on this forum!

So, over in the spider-man reboot threads there’s been a lot of debating over how the suit should look more home made… giving that there’s been a lot of you in here who have made your own spidey suit (which for the most part, all look really good)

I just wanted to get your perspective on how realistic is it that Peter in the movie could’ve designed that suit on his own….

How expensive, and time consuming are these suits to make…????

Well a lot of kids these days have at least one photoshop/artist friend who posts stuff on DeviantArt...so designing the suit wouldn't be that hard for him.

Our suits cost approximately $399...so if he had a job or sold a guitar he could pay for it. That's for a dye sub suit. Some vendors cost more...depending on options.

Of course in the comics the suits are always getting torn, right? So he'd need more than one probably. Which means if he learned to sew himself ...and didn't do any muscle-shading (he wouldn't need it) he could make a costume for less than $100 himself.

The lines could be done a lot of different ways...cloth, marker, iron-on transfer, black guide tape....or of course dyesub.

You could always ret-con in Aunt May making his costumes ;)

since parker was never one to really tell people who he was not because of trust issues but due to wanting to be a good boy and protect the ones he loves i will say from hands on making these costumes it would be a pain in the ass for him to make a suit that truly was likie in the films all by him self

as you can tell by all of the great suits being made by fans it is a process that the every day person can do his or her self but the process of making one start to finish is a long one from making the costume file to the cnc files for the webs and spiders or hand sculpting them sewing the suits printing the suits making the lenses and all the other little things in between ( not counting the face shell or muscle suit a sthat was only needed for the film since he was a built teen)

now if he did ask people for help yes this suit is easy to make if you find people with the know how or since he is a super smart kid i guess he could read some fx books take some on line classes and be able to make files use photoshop and use a sewing machine and do it all by his self in a few months but no way in hell he would do it either by him self or with help as fast as he did in the films lol

now if he was doing a more comic based suit just red and blue spandex with a screen printed web line and spiders hell that could be done easy as 1 2 3 any one can make a screen for them

all in all yes it could be done but not fast and not all to easy but thank god for movie magic and a big budget and an amazing costume designer :)

givin the contains of this thread… it is arguably possible to make a such a suit…. Though, with working alone, time restrictions , inquiring the know how and necessary skills, the costs and doing it all in secret, it would seem it isn’t very plausible…

Sure it is... I mean if spidey were real and swinging around in your city, every little fan...lol.. and not so little fan would want a spidey suit. He's already shown us he can sell pictures of himself so, he just needs to take it to the next level. Spidey merchandise!!! Peter Parker could if he so wished take the spidey costume in any direction he choose and provide merchandise to the public, including selling top of the line suits, shirts...everything. As a businessman Peter could pretty much have any suit made so desired and so long as it's available to the public the businesses he uses to make his suits wouldnt think he was spidey.... just another entrepreneur out to get in on some spidey action . In spidey 3 when he swings in to accept his thanks from Gwen and the City and every little kid is in a spidey suit..... so who's selling them? Peter needs to get in on some of that action....lol....

so after all these years of great movie costumes i feel we all have about reached basicly as close as we can get to the perfect movie spidey suit untill it gets changed in the new film lol ;) if not by one seller definatly by bits and peaces of us all

i see that brad brances out and makes other comic suits and accesories and posts them on hereand that is great spidey is an amazing superhero and has lots of costume over the years my questian to all is what other suits and costume pieces should be done now

post up some pix of your favorat spidey suits or also of any custom costumes you have drawn up for fun and see how many of them we can bring to life

i am dieing to do a new spidey costume but i am the type of guy that needs some feedback on what people really wnat befor i just jump head first in to a big costly project and you all are the true fans :)

oh and i know ther may be another thread for this topic but since other suits are allways posted on here that look so great and die sub printing will prob be the best way to go for most of them and we all are hard core about spidey suits i figured this would be the best place to post if their is another place pleas post a link to that thread as i really do want to see other amazing suits brought to life

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but since you brought up the topic of the thread...

this thread seems to have turned into more of a gallery of 98% of one person's work...with no discussion of methods...and 2% the occasional other picture of stuff.

Is it so wrong to want this to be a resource for methods and discussion rather than a sales thread all the time? I'm not throwing stones...I sell suits too...but I've seen people drop in and post other than me who ask "why isn't this thread about methods ?"
