Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

I like Spike Lee, but Spock is right. Lee puts his foot in his mouth a lot.

He complained how there were no black people in Flags of our Fathers but:

1. There weren't that few-to-none African Americans on the frontlines

2. There were African Americans in the movie handling artilery!

If spike doesn't cast Denzel Washington in this, i'll eat my shorts..
i mean it's the obvious choice, and not just because spike is spike.

:whatever:

Every remake isn't quick buck and it's not going to be a remake of the Korean movie, but an adaptation of the manga.

And so what if the US creates foreign remakes. Countries remake our movies and they have no problems doing that. I have no problem with the US remaking foreign movies, even if made a few years ago.
You're wrong. Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, the Coens, Sergio Leone, etc. are all unoriginal Hollywood cash grabbers.

Unless the movie is very diffrent, I don't see much point to it other than making a movie for a uncultured mainstream audience. It probably will get watered down as well, I think, regardless of changes.

Look, he's a raging egomaniac. He tried to sue Spike TV ... over the rights to the name "Spike."

Maybe next he'll sue Spike Jonze. :whatever: Then he'll go on to sue railroad spikes, volleyball spikes, spiked punch, every mohawked cartoon character from the 80's, James Marsters....

One of the projects Bale is currently considering post-TDKR:

http://www.showblitz.com/2011/08/whats-next-for-christian-bale-decisions-decisions-.html

Christian Bale's imdb page is a clean sheet after "The Dark Knight Rises," and that's for a reason: The Oscar winner has made clear that he wants to focus on his last Batman hurrah before deciding what to do next. When that production wraps in November, he'll have some meaty options, as Variety's Justin Kroll exlcusively reports. They include a third remake of “A Star is Born” starring Beyonce Knowles and directed by Clint Eastwood; Fox’s “Gold,” directed by Michael Mann; a remake of Korean thriller “Old Boy” that Spike Lee will direct; Relativity’s “Out of the Furnace” directed by Scott Cooper; and “Noah,” Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic at Paramount. (There’d also been talk of Bale joining “Last Photograph” at Warner Bros. but he’s no longer in the mix.) At this time, Bale has not attached himself to any of these projects, nor has he identified any as a front-runner. With the Batman trilogy wrapping in November, Bale wouldn’t be free until the beginning of the new year. Since most of the aforementioned films are scheduled to start lensing then, it wouldn’t be out of the question for Bale to tackle more than one — but it would be mighty difficult. Interesting side note: None of the projects is a franchise title — nor do there appear to be any openings for tentpole roles that shoot during that time. But Bale, who also toplined “Terminator: Salvation,” has always deftly balanced big-budget genre pics with smaller award friendly pictures like “I’m Not There” and “The Fighter,” which earned Bale his an Academy Award for best supporting actor. Either way, Bale finds himself in a very unique and favorable position — especially coming off his first year since 2003 without a film in theaters (since 2002 there have only been two years — ‘03 and ‘04 — in which Bale has not had multiple releases). He’ll get back on track in 2012 with “The Dark Knight Rises” and the period pic “The 13 Women of Nanjing,” which he shot before donning the cape and mask for the last time.

According to Jeff Sneider of Variety, he's looking at the villain role:

Jeff Sneider

The options are A STAR IS BORN, NOAH, Michael Mann's GOLD, Scott Cooper's OUT OF THE FURNACE & the villain in Spike Lee's remake of OLD BOY.

Hmm, I wonder why there's no mention of the new Malick project Bale is attached to. Anyway, out of those projects, I would be most interested in seeing him do Noah.

Because it definitely won't be his first post-Batman movie.

It looks like their list is just what he will do right after TDKR. Jeff Sneider said there are more projects scheduled for next summer to shoot pursuing him as well but they didn't list them yet.

There are other movies shooting next summer that are pursuing him too but again, not included since they won't be his next slot.

Noah is my top choice but the idea of Bale playing a villain is so enticing.

But since he is, supposedly, cast on the next Malick project, I find it a bit odd that the article didn't say that the project will be one of his future projects he will do next.

Also, I thought (though it's unlikely) that maybe one of these projects he's looking at next, could have scheduling conflict with the Malick project, which apparently will start filming early next year.

I hate it when celebrities completely go overboard with race.

I won't mention "Black", "Asian", or Latino", but Spike Lee and Tyler Perry make it really hard for me to not mention one of those three words. There's a theme there. Even Danny Glover went zonkers about the whole taxi cab thing.

I CAN'T WAIT for Tarantino's "Django Unchained" to come out. You watch. That movie is going to cause an epic ****-storm the likes of which we've NEVER seen. And for what? :cmad:

And I'm sorry (rant almost over), but it seems like the N-word has kept its power because we can't say it. That's what a taboo is, and taboos always tempt people to do something they're not "allowed" to do. It's the rebellious teenager in all of us. Our parents tell us not to do something, we do it, because they told us not to. So why not just embrace the N-word like any word and just let it be? It's a word, dammit.

By the way, I'm black.

I have a feeling that the new Malick film will not start until the late Summer/Fall next year at the earliest even if the report said that it will start early next year.

That's quite a lot of interesting projects to choose from, I'm hoping that Bale chooses Aronofsky's Noah, a collaboration between Aronofsky and Bale is something I'd like to see.

Brolin is confirmed? It's on.

There's a script floating around and that particular twist is there. The rumors floating though is that it's not the script that Spike Lee will be using.

i don't know, i mean he's a good actor, but from what i heard about Jonah Hex, he tends to forget that he's the actor, wasn't he the reason that neveldine/ taylor got the boot in favor of the horton hears a who guy?

Jeff Sneider of Variety is claming that this is not yet official. Were there others rumored for the part besides Brolin? I can't recall any except for Will Smith but that's the version with Spielberg.

nah brolin was only name i heard and if the rumor of bale being the villain this could be epic

Now Brolin vs Bale is something I would want to see.

Lee is coming to speak at my college on the 29th. My professor is trying to get a private Q&A with the TFA majors. I'll have to ask him about this film.
