Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

Olsen mentioning briefly that she's in talks and says that she's a fan of Spike Lee.

While she says nothing is a done deal just yet, she gushed about the opportunity to work on the film and with the director.

"The original is one of my favorite movies...and I'm a big fan of Spike Lee. Huge fan of Spike Lee, he's one of the best filmmakers around," Olsen said. "He's doing some tweaks to the original...What's really cool is the Korean movie is what people in the world of films would have seen, like people who like foreign films would have seen it, but a general American audience, I doubt they know the twists and turns of the original, so it'll surprise them. And I think its such a good movie, so that would be cool."

So I take, by meaning twists could it be that they're keeping the twist?

Sorry to be negative, but it's no surprise she would say those two things. Too much ass kissing in Hollywood gets annoying.

Twists? What's the other one besides the one at the end? Why the villain did what he was doing?

You may be right, but that's hard to tell sometimes if they're sincere or not. I don't think it's hard to assume that she has seen Spike Lee movies since they graduated from the same art school at NYU.

What do you want her to say when a question is brought up ? If she is dismissive than your complaining that she has gotten a big head and an ego ...... If she is going for a job , its courteious to be respectful especially when someone brings it up to you

I`m surprised people are optimistic about this project. I think its going to be WAY below par with the original film.

Yeah I thout the same thing about Let Me in util I saw it and thought it was as good as Let the Right One In . , so I am keeping an open mind.

So? I just a movie on its own merits, not "is it as good the original?"

I don't really care that it's getting remade. Not many people here has heard of Old Boy, and even more don't care about Foreign Language films. I understand that people don't like reading subtitles while watching a movie and while I'm not one of them, I understand that it does distract from the visuals. To me, there's no problem with remaking movies in English as US movies get remade overseas, and it's not the like the movie replaces the original, so why get mad or denounce it already?

Whoa, Copley?

My interest in this project just increased significantly.

Sharlto Copley Officially Cast In Villain Role
EXCLUSIVE: Sharlto Copley is heading to Hungary to begin shooting Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s Open Grave, and he has closed his deal to play the villain in Spike Lee’s Oldboy, a remake of the cult 2003 Korean revenge thriller from Park Chan-wook. The actor, who made his mark with his starring role in the Oscar-nominated District 9 followed by The A-Team, will play the lead character in Lopez-Gallego’s follow-up to Apollo 18. Copley’s character wakes up in the pit full of rotting bodies with no idea how he got there, begins to have flashbacks of himself murdering people and stars to believe he’s the killer. Charles Roven’s Atlas Independent is producing. Copley has also been confirmed to play the villain Adrian Pryce in Oldboy. Pryce is a mysterious billionaire trying to destroy the life of Joe *****ett (Josh Brolin). The new Oldboy begins shooting in late September from a script adapted by Mark Protosevich, who will co-produce. Roy Lee and Doug Davison produce via Vertigo Entertainment with Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule. Mandate president Nathan Kahane executive produces. Copley, repped by WME, just wrapped filming District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium opposite Matt Damon and Jodie Foster for MRC; it will be released in March 2013.

I'm good with this choice.

Yeah, that definitely makes me more interested.

Also, I think it's funny that the hero character's name is *****ett. Given that he's kind of a tool at the beginning of the movie (if they follow the Korean version at least) that's a great name, lol.

Samuel L. Jackson Cast In Spike Lee's OLDBOY

Jackson has come on board for a small but critical part in the new film, according to a person close to the production who was not authorized to talk about it publicly. The actor will play the man who is being tortured by the hero (Brolin) in a key revenge scene.
Fans of the original will remember the scene as perhaps the most visceral and disturbing of the film. Protagonist Dae-su Oh exacts vengeance on a man who once guarded him by extracting his teeth one-by-one with the claw end of a hammer.

Brolin pulling out SLJ's teeth?

This may be the most talked about scene of the year.

Oldboy is a classic already in my mind. Park gave us a beautiful (but very beastly) film, and a well-done trilogy. So, naturally, I sincerely doubt the remake will live up to the original, especially since it's being handled by Spike Lee.

Inside Man was pretty damn good but Oldboy is a classic and already among the legends of cinema.

Very doubtful it'll even touch the soles of the formers shoe in terms of greatness.

Oh, no. He's been out a long time. Josh Brolin has replaced him.

Oh wow. That's quite a drastic change. Too bad, I was really interested in seeing Smith try a character that stretches him from his usual roles.

I actually didn't know if this was still happening. I hadn't heard anything about it for a while.

Yeah, that's the shame of it. The problem with Smith is that he doesn't seem to try anything new right now. That would have been great for him career wise. Like Django Unchained would have been.

Yeah, I mean I like the guy as an actor, but I want to see something new besides the tortured good hearted man or the charming smartass. I'd love to see his take as a dark violent villain.
