Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

That's a moot point. This is an attempt by Hollywood to make a movie English to appeal to American audiences. Not exactly a pointless movie like you imply.

Off course it's pointless. I didn't said it wasn't going to be good. Replicating someone's work is a pointless showcase.

Oldboy's manga is a pulpy work , Park Chan's adaptation of it is very different in style (and completely different in content by the time it ends) than the author's work. Copying another person work shouldn't be motive for praise.

If i'll go and paint Mona Lisa , i hope nobody calls me Leonardo Da Vinci.

Lee's style looks different than Park. There's different sensibilities to it, and Lee has input his style on it. He'll put his own spin on the movie.

What's your opinion on Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Let Me In?

Is anyone praising?

Yeah, I take that back. That was an angry statement, Darth.
We all do it. That you acknowledge it is an incredible feat, especially around here.

Maybe I'll give 25th Hour another watch. I saw it when it was first released on home media, don't remember liking it. But that was a long time ago.

GWTDT is a different adaptation of the book.

Let me In , is like the kid who copies in the test and hopes i don't fail him :woot:

I would have no problem if he simply adapted the manga (which differs a lot from the movie , either in style or content). Clearly not the case.

25th hour is one of the best American films of that decade. That's what's infuriating. A director like Spike Lee doesn't need to resort to this.

Okay fair enough. :funny: This is something we'll have to agree to disagree on. I think it can be different from both the Korean and manga, but time will tell.

Bring the story to audiences over here. Not all of us like to watch movies in different languages

That's a moot point. This is an attempt by Hollywood to make a movie English to appeal to American audiences. Not exactly a pointless movie like you imply. And if they don't want to watch it in English, there's the Korean version. And the Hindi version.

But people want to trash the English version because it's Hollywood and popular thing to do on the internet.

It's all about you 'muricans huh.

I don't see how the last two scenes are similar. What everyone is failing to realize that some of those shots are crafted from the manga.

Nitpicking at it's finest

I just watched the trailer. Man, this looks pretty damn good. I mean, its certainly copying the original, but I think it'll be good enough to stand on its own as well.

Pretty much. Like I said, it's a case of Total Recall.

And 25th Hour is a damn masterepiece.

It's not a case of Total Recall at all and it is not only a stretch, but it is very unfair to make that comparison. The Total Recall lacked soul, heart, and direction. With Spike Lee as the director, I know this movie won't lack those things.

I've explained it in a previous post. It's TR in the sense that they touted it as a new adaptation of the source material, when in reality it's a remake of the previous film. Not comparing quality, here, of course Oldboy's gonna be better than friggin' TR.

I don't think it was ever said that they weren't using elements from the Korea movie.
