Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

I was just thinking about this the other day. When the hell are Spielberg and Smith going to do a film together? It would be a great team. But this doesn't sound it. It should be an original idea or something else. Hmm, the possibilities. Dammit, now I'm getting ideas to write an outline for a film with Spielberg and Smith.

How 'bout you leave that to the professionals...? FanFic smells weird

Oldboy is a classic and it needs to be left alone! Will Smith is so SO wrong for the film, he will a horrible miscast. I'd rather have Jim Carrey, at least he's done believable serious work!

And when in the hell does Spielberg seem to be getting bored. Any indication of it? It's just different types of films. Yeah, the 70's and 80's was his peak. But he's made alot of great and interesting films too. Shindler's List, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can. Guys, directors can't turn out a never ending streak of good film forever. He's made different films than before bit still turned out great. Whatever the hell he does, count me in.

Dude, what the hell? I never show my stuff to other people. I do it because I love to write and it's on of things I love doing and I love to tell stories. Are you saying I couldn't or shouldn't do it?

'Enemy of the State'??

'Ali'? 'The Pursuit of Happyness'? 'Six Degrees of Separation'?

Everyone said the same for Infernal Affairs.

Smith is a great dramatic actor if he's called on it. And I'd buy him more as someone that can actually pull of a revenge streak, as opposed to Carrey.

I don't know. I would prefer Denzel for the part instead..but I wouldn't know if he can handle the fighting scenes.

I know. Carrey would be bouncing off the walls. Smith is a great actor. He's proved that. One of some actors left who have a big name and can pull in a large croud but is a great actor.

Movies205 you brought some great perspective to this thread which i knew would turn into a ranting fanboy fest.

Also some good posts Crook.

I disagree with just about everything written in here, especially by the usual suspect. :cwink:

Will seems an odd choice for this role, Nic Cage was initially attached when Lin was doing it and he seemed a more natural fit, or a guy like Bale, either way I think Oldboy is a "great the first time you see it" movie but not something i care to maon about being remade for those that don't like subtitles, especially if Spielberg can bring something else to it.

Do you mean me? :csad::huh:

No no, lot of Hype history between me and the Vileone. :woot:

Oh, yeah. I see what you mean. He really never seems to see the good of film/filmmakers and their intentions. He always is shooting them down for something or picking something out to insult them. Goddammit, Spielberg didn't ruin Indiana Jones. What an ignorant statement. You have to be really open minded while watching that film.

I still have faith in Spielberg...he just needs something special....that one project that will make everyone go Holy ****

I don't expect good things from this film, Hollywood seems to have a knack for destroying good Asian films. Im just waiting for someone to remake Hard Boiled

True. While he's done all great films since the early 90's, considered past his prime, I really think he's just matured as a filmmaker.

But I really do hope that maybe one more tiime, he makes one more film tha makes us go like when we saw Close Encounters or ET for the first time. I swear to God, when I saw the ending to Close Encounters for the first time, I was in complete awe. Same with ET. We need something that has that effect.

stupid hollywood... this gets a big ol' :whatever:

this will be another dumb remake that won't even touch upon the brilliance of the original. speaking of original, what's with all these ****ing remakes? as a film student, i find it very disappointing whenever some of these so-called big time hollywood directors go the easy route and just blatantly rip stuff off. i guess the money gets to ya after a while... and according to south park, spielberg does like to rape movie properties so this actually makes perfect sense.

This is sad.

I threw up in my mouth a little when I first found out. The soundtrack is flawless.

I'm not familar with the original, I'll have to check it out. The premise sounds really interesting and something like a project that Spielberg would do. I guess, I would see it if they ended up making it. But i'll go out and try to find the original first.

Spielberg teaming with Smith is going to be like when Cruise joined him. I wonder how many movies they'll do with each other if this one gets made and is a hit. I think they would be great collaboraters.

Probably the best time to mention this....

People, get the Oldboy manga! It's really cheap on Amazon! Only 8 volumes. It's fantastic :)

It's better than the movie (and I freaking love the movie).

Oh, and all due respect to people who think it's a gimmicky movie, but I totally disagree! It's a really interesting and twisted story that was different from anything that I had seen, and I'm always going to give it props for that. Plus, Choi Min Sik is a fantastic actor, I really enjoying watching him.

I'm not one of those clairvoyant "THIS IS GONNA SUCK!!!1" uber-trolls, but unless they don't chicken out with the ending (and you know they will), this remake is just going to be a big bucket of fail :cmad:

shut

the hell

UP!!!!!:hehe: should that happens i'll find you.....

At one point, some *****es were planning to remake The Killer with Denzel Washington and Michelle Yeoh or something like that  :(

I am curious how this scene would look after getting the Hollywood treatment.
