Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

He didn't have 'race' issues in The Inside Man. The 25th Hour tackles lightly on xenophobia but in a tastefully done matter.

The original is pretty brutal and at times really ****ed up. Especially the final reveal. It was depressing. The ending was kind of left at an ambiguous note between hopeful and sad.

the original is incredibly violent and weird. It has some really powerful scenes. I hope they manage to keep it as brutal and creepy.

Isn't the trailer for this premiering today?

I'm not against the idea of remakes. But I just don't see how this could have the impact that the original did, unless they truly did adapt the manga and not the movie. Though I've heard they did the latter.

Either way, I really do want this to be good because I love the cast. Especially Copley. I'm glad to see him finally getting some good roles.

Everything is intriguing except for Brolin in pose about to come out of the box.

Its hard to explain but something about it is just...not doing it for me lol. That being said this trailer needs to hurry up. the korean "Oldboy" is one of the finest, darkest thrillers I`ve ever seen so the fact that its been remake is crazy. ESPECIALLY since Spike Lee is doing it.

VERY worried:csad:. Idk about this one, guess we`ll find out if he dropped the ball or not.

Red band trailer is out.

Something interesting about it...

So, did they hire a fake daughter? Or is Olsen not his daughter and maybe just a niece or something?

I love Copley's voice and accent. Copley for Bond villain! :awesome:

That's what I'm thinking. Pretty sure that's how it's going to go. Gotta admit, if Spike keeps the original ending, that's pretty ballsy for an American release.

I'm leaning towards
the fake daughter thing because the review said that they kept the original twist but added another one (something about keeping it in the family or whatever) so I think Copley is also related to them and he slept with Olsen too.

ETA: Here's that part in the early review -

The ending is even more incestuous than the original. The “big twist?” Still in there as is. However, the villain’s character…let’s just say the best thing about incest is that it’s the game the whole family can play! The last few minutes differ greatly from the Korean film in a way that I feel fits this version very well. I don’t want to give away too much, but to me, it almost makes more sense than the original’s ending. - See more at: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/spi...d-twisted-as-the-origina#sthash.hxHxmdZl.dpuf

Sounds good to me. I'm honestly pretty excited for this. Loved the trailer, glad we got a shot of the infamous hammer fight.

I'm excited for this, trailer looks great! I'll watch the original again later tonight, haven't seen it in years.

Well, this looks pretty badass...

Trailer won me over. I was cautious about it because the original is so great, but this trailer looks fantastic too. Brolin is always pretty great though.

Now this I like. It's got that trademark Lee cinematography but looks accurate to the source material.

It looks good but redundant. Lee doesn't have the same visual sensibilities as Park Chan-Wook, even though obviously... he's trying to replicate him.

That being said, I'm looking forward to it. And I'm betting the taboo Game of Thrones fans will love this (read between the lines WINK WINK WINK)

If he went the other route they'd say it wasn't being faithful.
