Splinter Cell: ConViction

Yeah.

Well, I might use it on multiple playthroughs.

I didn't use any of the shotguns, or even the machine guns, in MGS4 on my first 3 playthroughs or so. I think on about my 4th playthrough, I used it.

I think if they don't hit you over the head with a brutally tough hammer for using it, like swarms of thugs and stuff, then I'm game.

I'm a little surprised there's not a Collector's Edition announced yet. Chaos Theory and Double Agent both had one. I would expect one for ConViction too.

Lets hope they announce a collectors edition.

Still not sure how I'm going to approach the months of October and November.

This game is only out a couple weeks prior to Modern Warfare 2, that's quite a bit of money spent in 2 weeks, not to mention trying to share game time between the two. MP or solo player.

:/

Not a problem for me. I don't intend to buy or even play Modern Warfare 2. I tend to get bored in squad-based shooters. SP experiences are basically my only form of gaming, except for whatever Valve puts out.

I'm in a tight spot too.

I've decided to go with the Collector's Edition of Arkham Asylum, which in hindsight...I probably shouldn't have. I'm just a Batman psycho so, **** it.

But, I've got Modern Warfare 2 on my radar too. Alpha Protocol, Splinter Cell Conviction, Borderlands and I'm not sure how many others too.

Someone should make a thread on this. Like, a Videogame choice therapy thread or something.

Gamefly's been a big help for me in that respect. I spent hundreds of dollars on games when I bought my 360 and wound up not even enjoying some of them. So now I buy only the games that look really, really, really good and might potentially have some replay value and just rent everything else that looks only moderately interesting.

I haven't given Gamefly a go.

I, for some reason, take twice as long as any normal human being to finish a game.

I don't think I could play on a time limit of some kind. It's why if I hear a game is "short" it'll probably end up taking just enough time for me. Something like Bioshock and COD4 I took forever to finish up.

I've come to the conclusion that I'll finish Fallout and Oblivion in the year 2050, at the rate I'm going.

I haven't finished Oblivion or Bioshock, myself. I suspect I never will with Oblivion.

But Gamefly doesn't actually give you a time limit. You play a flat monthly fee and you can keep games however long you want. The fee is like $16, so given that most new games cost $60, you'd need to keep a game for almost 4 months to lose money with Gamefly. Really, the only downside to Gamefly is that you can't necessarily play what you want right when you want it. Unless you get really lucky, you're probably not going to get new games right when they come out. But I'm used to being behind on games, so I don't mind that.

I'm really looking forward to MW2. I've sunk countless hours into COD4 and W@W multiplayer and I can only see infinity ward improving on everything.

I played CoD4 and it bored me to tears. I figure if that's considered a genre-defining squad-based shooter, I must just not be into squad-based shooters. I take my shooters way, waaaay over the top, like Gears of War, or mixed in with other genres, like Uncharted.

I dont think CoD is a squad based shooter, i mean you aren't controlling anybody but yourself. Rainbow Six: Vegas and Brothers in Arms are squad based shooters. Call of Dutys main draw is its MP, thats where it separates itself from every other FPS out there. The SP in the game is about as average as you can get, but its MP is one of the, if not the best MP experiences you'll find on consoles. Just playing the single player in CoD isn't doing the game any justice.

I wouldn't say the SP is average, there are some fantastic moments and it has great AI, but I more than agree with everything else you said.

MP is where it's at.

Eh i just dont think the SP really adds anything. The stories have never really been that good.

CoD4 isnt squad based though.....

Then there's no way I'd ever do the game justice because I generally don't like or play multiplayer.

And what I did play of the multiplayer felt squad-based in the same way as Counter-Strike (which I also hate, coincidentally): people barking orders over my headset and getting way too into tactics and other crap I don't care about.

Eh thats just ppl trying to work together as a team. Just mute them and go about ur business if you dont feel like playing with any one. Or play just deathmatch, then you dont have to worry about anyone giving u orders.

Deathmatch bores me pretty quickly. I'm telling you, I'm just not really into multiplayer at all. I play games primarily for story and fun gameplay. Deathmatch has no story and very samey gameplay across every game.

The only recent exception is Uncharted 2's MP, since that one integrates a lot of the acrobatic platforming and stuff, but even in the beta, I was more into the Plunder mode rather than just deathmatch.

Yea, i hate Deatmatch as well, i always play team based modes. MP, isnt really for everyone. If you don't have a competitive drive, chances are you wont enjoy it. I have a buddy like that, he's never been very competitive and he's one of the worst ppl to play with online. No desire to win.

Yeah, I don't get how people get so into things and so competitive like that. I have a friend who plays PlanetSide and TF2 and actually looks up strategies and tactical guides for them. It's like he's actually preparing for war or something. Me, if I do play something online, I want to just jump into it, have a bit of fun, and then get back to the real meat of the game on the single-player side. I don't need some jackass yelling that I'm supposed to be flanking the enemy from the rear in my ear the whole time.

Haha, iv played with ppl like that. Im competitive, but not that competitive. I mean i dont just jump online to goof around, i expect and want to win, losing isn't fun, at all, ever.

Doesn't really bother me. I know my aim ain't great and I know I'm generally pretty clumsy, even in games (especially when you've got the "stick to cover" and "roll" actions bound to the same button, like in Uncharted and Gears), so I expect I'll suck in MP. If I get a couple kills and have some fun, I'm good.

Haha its all good. I grew up and still do play alot of sports, so id imagine thats where my competitive drive comes from. If i really suck at a game online, i wont even bother to play it unless i find the desire to get better.

I'm not going to pretend to understand why you have such an aversion to multiplayer, but like Pat said, if you don't want someone telling you what to do then just mute them. Personally, I don't believe in giving orders per se because I know no one enjoys that. I don't enjoy it. But I do make sure to call out enemy positions and stuff like that. Make sure people are more aware of what's going on. The only "order" I ever go out of my way to give is in Call of Duty 4. "Everyone put a magazine in that helicopter!" Works like a charm.

I hate being stuck on a team that doesn't talk whatsoever. It can drastically effect k/d ratios.
