Splinter Cell: ConViction

WTF! Why does the hype suck!?

Also, can't believe this game is finally coming out.

As for thr 5 hr complaint, I'm hearing all the other modes are well worth the play. U shoudl get more enjoyment from this game other than just 5 hours.

Interesting enough, I was skimming my Gameinformer issue...and noticed a preview article for Splinter Cell Conviction that I never read because I wanted to avoid spoilers.

The name of the preview article?

Splinter Cell Conviction...The First Five Hours of single player. The section on the single players says that after the first five hours the rest of the game has been set up nicely. I'll get a direct quote later tonight.

I just found it odd...that there's a preview article in last month's Gameinformer talking about the first five hours of the single player...and it seems to not have ended at the end of those five hours.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe the IGN reviewer played it on the easy, and went Jack Bauer on it.

Reviewers do have to rush through games too. They have deadlines to make when writing a review.

^^ There are YT vids of this guy playing it like MW. Maybe that's him. lol

FYI. The game hit the torrents a while ago and the jerks came out of the wood work posting spoilers through out the interwebs. Surf with caution.

Thanks for the heads up. I prefer going dark on games I'm psyched to play.

Picking the game up after class. So stoked. If anyone is down for some Co-Op on realistic, just let me know.

Really enjoying the game so far. It's been a really satisfying experience. Im mid way through the single player campaign and im gonna stop and start playing the co-op. I played some of the deniable ops last night with a partner and it was a blast(altho the dude had no mic, so that hurt the experience a bit). But there is something to be said when 2 spies drop 2 mercs, hand to hand, simultaneously.

For those worried the game is just a run n gun, i think you can rest easy. It's definitely more action heavy, i think iv killed more ppl in the 4 hours iv played than i did all through PT and CT, but i still found myself waiting for that perfect opportunity to strike from the shadows, just like in the old Splinter Cell titles.

The few gripes i have are small ones, the attention to detail isn't as nice as id like, for instance Sam never 'holsters' his pistol, it kinda just disappears when you put it away, i also dont like that you auto equip secondary weapons if you dont already have one, i dont like that you cant remove upgrades and im not crazy about the black and white hue when you are in shadows. Considering you stick primarily in dark areas, the majority of the game is played in black and white.

Other than those few things, im loving the game. The deniable ops are an absolute blast and a lot tougher than i had thought. Cant wait to play more later.

I've played most of the second level (or first, since it's not a tutorial) and it was nice to figure out ways to get past the guards without even touching them...and then going ahead and being a killing machine.

I tried Deniable Ops alone, and I liked what I played for a bit. I tried CO-OP, hunter mode I think, but the guy I was playing with disconnected suddenly so I barely got into it.

I very much love the P.E.C. Challenges, they certainly provide a nice incentive to play certain ways. There's an incentive for ghosting a level, and ghosting a level with only your hands.

I probably could have gotten further, but I got such a kick out of approching the enterance to the mansion in different ways. Either jumping over the fenced wall and shooting the guy by the door, or knocking him out with a death-from-above kill and M&E the two other by the front. Or setting off a car alarm and then jumping over the wall and knocking out the two guards, then waiting for the third to come back, or just starting the alarm and getting past the fron door without alerting any of them and climbing up the pipe. Very very fun.

I've only played through the tutorial level (which was a fantastic way to setup a tutorial level through the flashback), and made my way through most of the mansion in search of Kobin. The storytelling feels great, and the voice acting early on is fantastic. Ironside, as always, has been perfect so far. I'm happy to hear Grim in my ear again. Playing, even if just in a tutorial, as an early 30's Sam Fisher was interesting. I love how they've cut loose, and just went with a sharper edge with the tone of the game. The suggestive nature of the guys who broke into Regan's house in the flashback felt real and harsh enough to make Sam justified in what he did, and they did it with only a few words and it worked for me. It was really heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time to see Sarah as a little girl. It felt personal, and like we were in Sam's head and was effective I think. So, from the start I'm in love with the storytelling thus far.

Yea, the storytelling has easily been the best in the series to this point. Im not done with the game yet, but its great so far.

Yeah, it's a step up from the rest. Seeing Sam humanized is working wonders, I think.

I do have some nitpicks, that I guess I have becase I'm a hardcore fan. I miss the throw object option, I miss the Night Vision Goggles too, and the rest as well like Thermal and Electric Magnetic Vision too. I've heard that there is no more lock picking, which is too bad because I really enjoyed that. I managed to narrow my time pretty well with the other games. Hacking mini-games were fun for me too, which I've heard has been cut out as well.

So far, those are just my nitpicks which I think I can overlook...except maybe the lack of Night Vision. It just strikes me as strange that they completely subtracted that. The Dark Knight-sonar vision- is awesome, but still...

Yea, they have really taken the game in a different direction. I mean you are no longer a govt op, so most of those resources have been canned. I mean im having a blast with the game, but i hope for the next title, they take it back to you being a govt agent(maybe that means no more Sam, i dont know) but id like to go back to the consequence gameplay. The reason Sam couldnt be seen in the past titles was because he wasnt supposed to be there, America couldnt be tied to any ops in these areas. Id like to see a return to govt ops in the next title.

Sounds good. I got an e-mail from Amazon.co.uk that my order has been dispatched, so I'll be able to play it next week. Assuming my 360 is OK.

They have announced they will be releasing free DLC every Thursday, starting tomorrow with a new gun.

Really?

That's...pretty ****ing cool.

Now, if only I can get my hands on all the content my credit card usb drive was supposed to be pre-loaded with, I'd be set.

And agreed, Pat. It might be a give-and-take, because on side we're getting a nicely personal story with Sam...but I very much would love to see Sam return to doing wetwork for the government. I think, again just from a level and a half in that I've played, that they might be setting that up with Grim as the lead in for him.

I was quite sad to hear of what happened with Lambert, since the ending with him in Double Agent was up in the air. But, I guess Grim is as good a successor as any for the role as Sam's handler.

I'm loving just about everything with this game. The story is fantastic and there is no way that this campaign is only 5 hours, it's easily an 8-10 hour campaign which is what I expected. The story and gameplay are just as solid as you'd expect them to be and really addicting, the voice acting is top notch, one thing I was surprsied at was how much I enjoyed kind of the rock music when things get a little hot, it's really sweet and gets you pumped up. I'd say my only nitpicks are that the lip synching is god awful and that sometimes when I'm in the shadows it can be tough to tell where other shadows are and I'll get caught going to an area I think is shadows but really isn't. I'm assuming that's more me sucking than the actual game. I played a bit of the co-op it is absolutely fantastic especially playing with someone who is competent.

I had no problem with the Iraq and Chase levels. I know some reviews said that these levels were out of place and no good but I liked them both immensely. True they are the farthest away from the Splinter Cell formula but they help keep things a bit fresh and are both enjoyable to play including the nice little surprise at the end of the Iraq level. Also, having Vic narrate the story and showing flash forwards is really effective in the story telling. It helps you stay on your toes because you don't know if you can trust Grim or not and that helps out with the overall theme of betrayal.

Im with you man, like i thought, if you play the game on realistic, it adds at least 2 or 3 hours. I finished the campaign right at 8 hours, and it never felt short. Im with you on the lip synching as well and i think thats due to the dated engine. As for the shadows, yea thats happened to me as well, but im just not crazy about the black and white, i spend the majority of my time in black and white. I wish they could of just given us a meter, or small icon.

Yep with you there too. I LOVED the chase level, felt like an episode of 24. My only complaint with the chase level was the animation they used for Sam running, as top notch as all the other animations are, that one just didnt look right.

And for everyone whose beaten the game:

What do you think is next? Is Third Echelon going to be shut down? Will we see Sam again? Is this the last SC game?

This game is just simply amazing. I only played single player for bout a good two hours if that, loved it. I mainly been playin Co-op
