i can see the joker leaving just his cards around in the beginning. then he escalates to leaving cryptic messages on radio or internet posts. then finally he makes himself more public by making a big announcement on television.

I think we shoudl just use teh radio like in Batman#1, because it's creepy and it makes him that much more mysterious.

Radio may sound outdated but it would work perfectly in the film if used. Oh radio and tv. People are watching tv and suddenly static starts and we suddenly see flash images of a shadowy joker in between the static until the broadcast is completely interupted by this mysterious figure. In the radio would be great they should show a montage of people all around gotham in different places like stores and restaurants, bars and office buildings all with music going on and then interrupted by the J making his announcement.

Well we had Joker making announcements on TV in Batman 89 so radio sounds much better idea or internet.

I really don't buy the whole thing with the radio. Just because it's classy and old school, doesn't mean that's Joker. Radio would seem silly.

TV makes more sense, because the Joker WANTS to be seen. He DOESN'T want to be in the shadows... or be the mysterious voice on the radio. He wants to show off his charming looks (at least to himself, he's charming). He thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread... god's gift to the earth. He doesn't think he's grotesque. He doesn't think he's odd because he looks different than everyone else.... He thinks he's BETTER than everyone BECAUSE he's so different. It makes him empowered.

He EMBRACES his appearance. He smears lipstick all over himself not to hide his scars, but to make them more noticeable. Deep down, he DOESN'T want superstar Brad Pitt looks. He has accepted his appearance, he loves it, and that's what makes him so scary. He's not ashamed by how he looks... He thinks it's a quality. So therefore... wouldn't he want to be on TELEVISION, in order to show off how "great" he looks??

The thing I love about Heath Ledger playing the Joker, is that Heath Ledger is so damn good-looking in real life. His boyish-smile, his eyes... He's "dreamy" to many girls (the "10 things I hate about you" era)... and now he's playing someone who is GROTESQUE... but his character still EMBRACES his own looks, and he believes he's good looking - even though he no longer is. The fact that he has a "joker smile" in real life... but yet we won't see that smile in the movie because of his make up... I think that's even more brilliant, because it shows that we're not getting Heath Ledger because he smiles like the Joker and looks like the Joker - We're getting Heath Ledger because he can literally BECOME the Joker. It's not about appearance. It's about performance.. and I will stand by the theory that Ledger will BLOW US AWAY.

Well, how did we really know that The Joker revealed on ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com was real?

For a Youtube marketing campaign, I'm thinking of something along the lines of what we saw for "Saw 3", with the messages from Jigsaw. If it's actually Heath Ledger as The Joker talking to us, it would be pretty hard to fake.

I agree with TempleFugit that Joker embraces his appearance and is proud of it. He has a very warped sense of vanity in which he embraces his freakish look and thinks it's beautiful. He's like a psycopathic version of Narcissis, admiring himself and his own self-perceived beauty while killing/robbing/causing mayhem. It's been like this since Batman #1 - unlike sympathetic villains like the Phantom in "Phantom of the Opera," Joker doesn't hide his disfigurement or cower in the shadows because of it - he wants the world to see his face, or show it off, so to speak.

The problem is, this has been done in Burton's 89 version. If you remember the "Joker brand," Joker hijacked television stations to show off how he rigged beauty products to kill people and leave the gruesome smile. It was similar to "The Laughing Fish" storyline and a great reference to the comics. But I'm thinking Nolan would avoid a repeat of television appearances and go for another comic reference - the radio announcements in Batman #1.

The reason I say this is because Nolan is taking a lot of stuff from that first comic. For example, our first Joker picture doesn't have a wildly-emoting Mr. J - he's more similar to the figure we see in Batman #1, where he's described as having "dead" eyes (just check Heath's eyes in the photo.) The comic also describes him as having a dead, lifeless voice that is droning and flat - I think Nolan will play into this characteristic and have some freaky radio announcements (or phone-in calls to the radio station), exploiting the fact that the Joker has a zombie-like voice that can freak the audience out.
