Square Enix's Avengers

Found this old article with an interview with a developer about the story's length. 10-12 hours and 30 after all the side missions. Similar to some of Square Enix games.

Marvel's Avengers Campaign Length Revealed

Interesting, still gonna wait for a little more content to be added though before I buy it. Have plenty of other stuff to play with my backlog and want a really meaty Avengers when I get to it.

Also, I saw Abomination in the trailer, is he in it much?

He's a boss fight in the story once although he appears in a couple of cut scenes. He appears again in side missions where you fight him in two different side missions from what I've seen so far.

He doesn't have a major role but I dig him in this

Interesting, thanks. I will be buying this at some point for sure. It just won't be right now.

Understandable and probably for the best. It just feels like a big sample right now but can tell a lot more is coming.

I've played through the Reassemble campaign and I really enjoyed it. I think they nailed the characters and there are some really memorable moments in the story, bigger and smaller.

The story does continue in campaign chains in the Avengers Initiative section afterwards but I haven't really delved into that yet. I think it will be missions with more dialogue before and during, but not with longer story scenes as in the main campaign. I have played some co-op with a friend though and, just like in the beta, the gameplay shines the most when you play with others.

They saved two great characters for the full game and I've had an absolute blast playing with Thor (I doubt anyone saw that coming...). Some really satisfying mechanics and a decent learning curve. For example I found it pretty hard to fly when I played Iron Man in the beta, but now that I've put in more time it feels good and I can pull off some decent maneuvers. I doubt I'll get tired of seeing enemies pinned under Mjolnir, unable to get up, or the visual of throwing the hammer at an enemy and seeing him fly off in the distance.

The game feels a bit harder than it did in the beta though. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is but it's noticeable. Perhaps it's mainly when I play solo and I've outleveled my other characters enough that they aren't helping me enough. It certainly is a lot to keep track of as well when enemies in both melee and ranged distances all try to get to you, and you stagger pretty easily when you get hit. A basic tip is to always take out turrets and ranged enemies first.

I'm on the PS4 and this far it's been clearly more polished than the beta was as well. I haven't seen any significant bugs, apart from that my friend who plays Cap became invisible during one co-op mission and there was only a shield floating around. Pretty amusing. That can of course vary depending on platform and per individual.

The pricing of the stuff in the marketplace is pretty odd though. I think they've set the prices way too high so I don't think it seems worth what you get. Fortunately I don't think there is any need to buy anything from there, especially since I personally think the best outfits I've seen are free, but with better prices it could at least be a more viable option for those that want to. Hopefully they'll reevaluate the pricing strategy, but I guess it will just depend on whether people are buying or not.

All in all I've been having a really good time this far, but the game is a lot about continuous development so we'll see how it turns out in the future. There is room to polish things and add some functionality, and there is certainly a need to put out more areas and villains if this is to be a game for the long haul.

Yeah that's another thing I am waiting for. As I say got plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime. But I will definitely buy this at some point. By the time I do hopefully we have more characters and content to wade through so I can really get stuck into it.

A type of reward I've been getting often in side missions is fabrication patterns, where you go to a machine on the shield carrier base and unlock costumes/skins. Nice to know challenge cards or the market place isn't the only way to get skins..Unless you want specific ones, which does suck! You of course start off the game with some free ones and unlock others through the story.

I've reading that there will aparrantly be a big day 1 update like I expected. Day 1 should be tomorrow for the standard release

Is the campaign for this co-op?

You can only do a few of the main campaign missions in co-op, most are single player. All the Avengers Initiative stuff is co-op though, including additional story content that comes with new characters.

Can even do some HARM room(training)challenges co-op

76 in Metacritic with only 5 reviews. This is definitely not Spider-Man 2018 but I hope this will get a decent MC rating.

Gonna have to stay off YouTube while I play this over the weekend, it's getting harder to avoid spoiler videos. Damn those thumbnails!

Was looking forward to playing today...Didn't realize the update would take somewhere between 3-4 hours to complete.

3-4 hours? It's only 18gb and I think it was 14gb for me(digital). Took less than 5 minutes

I know some people don't want the Fantastic Four or X-Men in this game as it's an Avengers game and prefer the other two teams to get their games but that ain't happening any time soon and so what if there's a mission event for Crystal Dynamics's version of Avengers vs X-Men or Avengers teaming with the Fantastic Four to stop Dr. Doom or Galctus?

Playing as Kamala/Ms. Marvel is really fun but I wish it was Mr. Fantastic. Playing as Thor is awesome but I would also love to be Storm

This game is supposedly going to be supported with characters and dlc content for several years. The playable roster could be build up with plenty of Avengers and Fantastic Four/X-Men!

Thing has been an Avenger as has Beast, Storm and Wolverine anyway, so at least give them some spots in the potentially huge roster!

That is too good for a dlc.

I feel like I need to see the first three eXpansions, as this looks to be an eXpensive game and I need to see if the eXpansions would be make the game better or downgrade it. I also need fancy cinematics for the dlcs. Could they do that everytime they add someone to the playable roster?
