Square Enix's Avengers

The red flags were there at the first reveal. They spent how much time in the reveal raving about "the all star voice cast"? Which is a problem, because unlike actor, "all star voice actors" are that because you hear them in ****ing everything. And then extremely limited private demos.

And then I look at Monster Hunter Rise. It was released incomplete. They did not finish the base game till 2 months later. But they released a good chunk of the content, focusing instead on making the game work. And I am fairly certain they had a lot more work to do than Avengers, because this was the first game getting the RE Engine onto the Switch hardware. And they somehow managed to do it.

But then again, Monster Hunter does the looter shooter better than this game did, as the loot is visibly satisfying.

Yeah, loot is kind of important in looter shooters. It feels like many behind Avengers weren’t suited to this kind of game or didn’t have the experience to get it right.

I think part of the problem with looter shooters is that everyone *thinks* they should be easy to do like any other normal video game. . . when they actually need most of the effort of an MMO. There's probably also an element of "this is a new genre, there should be plenty of room", when in fact the genre has largely consolidated and is at the "mature" stage already. Its not enough to want to make a new game, you need to provide a compelling case to the audience for why they should play New Looter Shooter X rather than Destiny. . . and that means your game needs at least most of the same amount of refinement and content as Destiny. Yes, this is really really hard to achieve for a new game; too bad, life isn't fair, and neither is the market. They got here first, you didn't.

Wonder what level my characters are gonna have to be to play the Black Panther expansion

That classic Captain America suit looks nice, I guess. Too bad it'll be $20 to get.

It's a shame they decided to ape the mcu like they did as Klaw has a funky comic costume that should be adapted instead.

The Black Panther trailer looked cool, but that is because it was clearly aping the Black Panther movie's trailers, and all it really did was make me want a Black Panther game.

Heh, imagine if Spider-Man were in this game. Now that would nuts, lol. Spider-Man.

I just wish they would fast track the new playable characters, as I have no interest with their other plans. Red room, cosmic cube and the one where you have 4 people as the same characters didn't grab my interest.

Kinds sucks they made the single player campaign episodics but they come out every quarter or bi-annually rather than monthly.

So do all these DLC stories and extra characters take place before the end of the main campaign and you recruit them for it, ala Mass Effect 2? Or do these things take place after the main campaign? Is there a big storyline they are building to with all these DLCs and extra characters being introduced or is this just being made up as it goes along?

Oh no, this was all planned out and written before the game first released.

End of main campaign.

I don't think they are building to anything big. Kate's DLC ended with a tease to Hawkeye's DLC. But Hawkeye's DLC seemed side stuff/story featuring an alternate timeline that doesn't tease a continuation. While Black Panther's DLC that doesn't seem connected to AIM (which should be a good thing as I'm tired of the AIM enemies).

I think Black Panther is their ideal for "big updates", probably once a year or so. We will see how much it actually is.

I was all in for Destiny for a while. A big thing that lost me was the light level nonsense. I couldn't break through those tiers. Also, single use shaders. I f'n hate that. I liked when you could start getting some of the cooler shaders for the game, and then they made them single use for the sequel. Garbage. Those are part of what caused me to tune out and made the game less fun for me.

I think a big problem with these types of games is a lot of MMOs have a free to play model. These games still want you to buy in and pay for a lot of the content. And I just don't think it's enough. At least with a game like say Overwatch, while you did pay for it, Blizzard did routinely release new maps, modes, skins, and characters over the course of the life of the game. You can pay for loot boxes, but nothing is pay to win. It's all cosmetic.

I would rather you could go on specific quests and do specific things to get a cool weapon or armor. And I would like it if those weapons and/or armor will give you some cool boosts, buffs, or stats.

Oh a free update? That’s nice. Perhaps I should get it in august
