Stan Lee's opinion about Hulk vs Superman

ShadowBoxing said:
I would say two things. One Superman has other powers besides strength. Two, his assertion is not true. They can only estimate how strong Superman is, but it's never been shown. We honestly don't know how strong or how powerful Superman can get. Stories like Superman Prime and the even the original movie should suggest as much to someone. Some even suggest Superman can and will become a god. However Superman's strength is not driven by anger.

Also note Superman does not need to continually be stronger than Hulk, just stronger than Hulk at that particular given time. Hulk has been knocked out before, or at least held in check long enough to revert back to Banner. Accomplishing either of these things would be considered a victory for the person in question. So if Superman can land a punch on a less mad Hulk, and knock him out, he wins. If he can hold him back, freeze his head with ice breath to prevent him from breathing, and he turns back into Banner he also wins.
First of all hulk can break ice and hold his breath for over and hour, second all of supermans powers are not going to help him in a fight vs hulk (I wish you superman fans could understand that) a matter of fact supermans power might just hurt him, superhearing hulks thunderclap heat vision see gladiator, i do agree the only way sm could beat hulk is to change him back to banner.

Yeah, I've thought of that too. Supes has gotten hurt in the past because of loud sounds due to his super hearing. One of the HULK's signiture moves is the thunder clap. His head might explode. It'd at least knock him out.

Superhearing will definitely be effective.

Wonder Woman used both her bracelets and struck Superman's head so hard (Clark was using his superhearing at the time) that the concussion rang in her ears.

Lord knows how much it rang in Superman's.

From Hulk Movie Board:

In Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine Oct 2006 issues, Stan Lee was asked his opinion about Hulk vs Superman and this is what he wrote, "If I wrote the story, I guarantee the Hulk would win. The way I established the Hulk, the more he fought, the stronger he got. And Superman has a certain amount of strength and thats it. I assume at some point he'll get worn out, but never the Hulk."

sorry Playa :hq:

I know this is 5 years late, but here is a copy of that issue. You can find the comment on page 86. It would be interesting to note that they also interviewed the late Dwayne McDuffie about the same thing. His response was that Superman would win saying that "so the Hulk gets angrier and angrier and stronger and stronger. Well, Superman would grab him by the ankle and pitch him into the sun. The Hulk would be mad as hell... as he's flying into the sun."

HAHAHA Yeah I have always felt that the Hulk would/should lose most of the time to Superman, Thor and Silver Surfer especially if all of them didn't fight him on his terms i.e. Hand to Hand!

Both Thor and Surfer have the ability to drain/absorb energy while they ridiculous long range attacks in addition to both of them being in the same Strength class as Hulk!

Keep in mind that Thor has his Belt of Strenght which doubles his Class 100 Strength! Surfer can also augment his Strength with the Power Cosmic!

Superman...well is Superman! He has all the same abilities of Thor and SS!

Superman can cast down lightning bolts?

Superman can cast down lightning bolts?

NO I meant that he has similar powers in that he possesses flight, a potent long ranch attack, and near Immeasurable levels of Strength, Endurance, and Durability.

Haha wow I remember reading this thread when it was originally posted.

That's just stupid. You can't talk in space.

Though the idea of the fight reminds me of I think issue six on invincible where the Immortal does and says one of the smartest things in all comics, "When in doubt, throw them into space".

Oh and that static electricity thing wouldn't fly, he'd need to make physical contact to ground the blast. Most of superman's powers are just arbitrary fanfic misconstrued science. Remember when he used to be able to shoot little supermen out of his hands? Ah the days of dropping acid and still being employable...

Supes would beat the hulk though, but he'd get floored by thor as he has just standard human magical resistance so one magic anything that would kill a normal man would kill him. Thor would probably accidently kill him thinking he could take a reasonable godblast. Surfer spanks anyone with radiation based powers though. Like he told the hulk after their first battle, "I could just take away your powers".

Stan the Man's quote is based purely on the assumption that superior strength is the only factor determining the outcome of the battle. Superman's a pretty clever fella, The Hulk is (at least in the classic sense) pretty dimwitted. I'd be willing to be Superman would think of some clever way to beat the Hulk that didn't involve wrestling.

Now an arm wrestle, on the other hand, is another topic entirely...although, even then, I suppose Superman could calm the Hulk down to the point he reverts back to Banner...which I presume, Superman being Superman, is the very first tactic he'd try in any conflict against Hulk.

The hulk and the thing have an annual arm wrestling contest. No one ever wins case the table and chairs always break first. Seriously.
