Star Ocean 5 details and screenshots: Kingdom of Trei’kur and Party Skills
Published 12 hours ago. 108 comments.
A dry and infertile kingdom.

Square Enix has released new details and screenshot of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness detailing the Kingdom of Trei’kur and Party Skills.
Get the details below.
■ World
Kingdom of Trei’kur
SO5_01-11-16_001.jpg

Compared to the Kingdom of Resulia, it is difficult to say the land of the Kingdom of Trei’kur is blessed. Much of the land is covered in desert, and much of it is infertile. Given such, the Kingdom of Trei’kur has a great desire for the Kingdom of Resulia’s land, and throughout history has often waged war with the country. And now, for that same reason, it has waged war again.

East Trei’kur

SO5_01-11-16_002.jpg

Located in the easternmost part of the Kingdom of Trei’kur, East Trei’kur is a border town connected to the Western Dakaav Range, which becomes the Kingdom of Resulia. Compared to the Kingdom of Resulia, it is difficult to say the land of the Kingdom of Trei’kur is blessed, and the town of East Trei’kur compared to the streets of the Kingdom of Resulia has a dark atmosphere all around. Also, given the Kingdom of Trei’kur’s many wars and the fact that this is a border town, the town is stationed with military encampments and armaments and exudes the atmosphere of a forefront town.

World Affairs

SO5_01-11-16_003.jpg

Fidel, Miki, and Victor live in the Kingdom of Resulia, located in the center. Fiore belongs to the Kingdom of Langdauq, which the Kingdom of Resulia has friendly relations with. And then there’s the Kingdom of Trei’kur, which the Kingdom of Resulia is in a fierce war against.

Square Enix has released new details and screenshot of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness detailing series’ recurring character Welch Vineyard and item creation.
Get the details below.
■ Medauq

SO5_01-24-16_001.jpg

Medauq is a trade city located in the east of the Kingdom of Resulia, near the border to the Kingdom of Langdauq. The Rondo River fills the east, and from the north side, through the east and extending towards the south, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Eihidd Mountains. While the mountains surrounding every direction are important in that they form a natural stronghold for the Kingdom of Resulia, it is also a beautiful mountainscape rich in variety.

■ Sub-Characters

Welch Vineyeard

  • CV: Tomoe Hanba
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 18
  • Special Skill: Item Creation
  • SO5_01-24-16_002.jpg

A beautiful, enthusiastic girl who works hard as an item researcher in Medauq. Although she pushes Fidel and the group to procure materials, and can sometimes be overbearing and freewheeling, she can teach you a variety of techniques. She lives in a certain house in Medauq, which you’ll see labeled “Welch Lab.”

■ Item Creation
By visiting Welch in Medauq, you can learn various item creations that become part of your party skills. Item creation is divided into three categories, “Recipe Synthesis,” “Creative Synthesis,” and “Equipment Enhancement.”

Recipe Synthesis

SO5_01-24-16_003.jpg

Between mixtures, handicraft, smithing, craftsmanship, cooking, writing, and alchemy, there are seven types of items to create, and by arranging the items necessary for the outcome of each recipe, you can synthesize new items and equipment.
—Mixtures

SO5_01-24-16_004.jpg

Through mixtures, it is possible to synthesize recovery items and attack items.
—Handicraft

SO5_01-24-16_005.jpg

Through handicraft, it is possible to synthesize attack items and recovery items, such as those that inflict status ailments.
—Smithing

Creative Synthesis

Through creative synthesis, you can select up to six random items you own and synthesize them into a single item. It is essentially a lottery system where you don’t know what you’re going to get, but can possibly result in a rare item.

Equipment Enhancement

SO5_01-24-16_012.jpg

Through equipment enhancement, you can synthesize materials with your weapons, armor, accessories to strengthen its parameters and add factors. The enhanced parameters and added factors differ based on the materials you synthesize.

■ Private Actions

SO5_01-24-16_013.jpg

Both in towns and on the field, players can enjoy a variety of interactions with characters through Private Actions.

■ Battle

A Selection of Fiore’s Skills
—Reserve Rush (Super Special Move) & Guard Counter
The Reserve Rush skill “F-Dystopia” strikes a wide range of enemies in a powerful signeturgy attack, as well as reduces the enemy’s ability.

SO5_01-24-16_014.jpg

The Guard Counter skill “F-Punishment” knocks down the enemy with a round-trip slap and has a high potential of inflicting the enemy with the “Stun” status ailment, which doesn’t allow them to move, for a fixed period of time.

Star Ocean 5 Impressions: Exploring A New Yet Familiar Battle System. February 1, 2016 . 1:30pm

While Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithfulness is a big game with a crafting system and a world to explore,

the demo was primarily focused on combat.

Siliconera attended Taipei Game Show 2016 this past weekend, and I got to play a bit of Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness at the event. Here are my impressions on what I got to try out from the demo.

While Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness is a big game with a crafting system and a world to explore, the demo was primarily focused on combat. Players have Fidel, Victor, and Miki in their party as they explore a mountain path. The demo starts with a cutscene, and you also still get to control Fidel, which can make for fun little moments. For example, you can walk around (or through!) characters, but you can’t go too far. A red line on the field shows the maximum distance you can walk away from the scene. After an intro, Fidel and his crew run up a drawstring bridge to the first fight.

Monsters are visible on the field and Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness seamlessly transitions into battles similar to Tales of Zestria. Pressing the circle button does a light attack and X does heavy attacks. If you hold down circle or X you can do special moves. The first battle was against some Armor Lizards that look kind of like tiny dragons. These monsters were easy to slash through and you could pretty much mash through the battle. It felt like one of the ways to end combat quickly was switching between light and heavy attacks to get a cancel bonus which increases the amount of damage. Players can block by pressing the square button. Enemies can block too, but you can shatter their guard using a heavy attack.

The d-pad is used to switch characters, but there isn’t much of a difference between Fidel and Victor in the demo since roles couldn’t be set. Miki is a magic-user equipped with three spells. They’re pretty simple, but to give you an idea Healing recovers HP, Fire Bolt shoots a fireball, and Explosion is a heavy damaging attack. Miki has a little bit of casting time so you can switch to Miki start casting a spell and then switch to Fidel or Victor to attack enemies to keep the flow going.

Since this was a demo, there wasn’t much exploration. The linear level led players through a mountain where a rock opens to reveal a secret cavern. The framerate started getting choppy and this was just when walking inside the secret lair, not fighting enemies. Combat seemed to have a more stable framerate, but the PlayStation 4 version was a bit janky. Keep in mind that the demo is from the current build of the game, so it’ll likely get better over time.

The boss battle was the first challenging fight in the Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness demo since the boss fires a gun that can easily shave off 1/3 of your HP if you get hit. The key to the battle was making good use of recovery items like blueberries which players earned before encountering the boss.

Star Ocean: Integrity & Faithlessness comes out in Japan on March 31 and will be released throughout Asia this spring for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Square Enix announced the PlayStation 4 version for North America and Europe, but have not set a release date.

Group Battles

SO5_02-08-16_007.jpg

Because the Kingdom of Resulia and the Kingdom of Trei’kur are at war, conflicts will break out in various places. Fidel and company might get involved in these conflicts, leading to seamless event group battles. These are somewhat different from standard battles, as a large number of people outside the party will participate.

Use Relia's power to stop enemies in their tracks.

Square Enix has released new Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness information and screenshots detailing Victor’s subordinates—Gunther, Hana, and Dax—Relia’s mysterious power, and two new dungeon areas.

Get the information below.
■ The Kingdom of Resulia’s Central Resulia Army Special Forces Special Response Tactics Group

SO5_02-21-16_001.jpg

Victor’s trustworthy subordinates who will help out Fidel and friends in a variety of battles.

Gunther

SO5_02-21-16_002.jpg

One of Victor’s subordinates who belongs to the Kingdom of Resulia’s Central Resulia Army Special Forces Special Response Tactics Group. When carrying out an operation, he is entrusted with a very important role and always rushes in first, and while there is a side to him that is mischievous and lacks experience, he has the deep trust and high expectations of Victor’s superior officers.

Hana

SO5_02-21-16_003.jpg

Despite being only 22, she is one of Victor’s subordinates who belongs to the Kingdom of Resulia’s Central Resulia Army Special Forces Special Response Tactics Group.

With her high signeturgy capabilities, she was also working with Fiore in the Langdauq Royal Signeturgy Research Institute. To prove her abilities, she joins the Kingdom of Resulia’s army. She is the daughter of a prestigious family and speaks in a “desu wa”-style tone. (Editor’s Note: This is women’s language that adds a feminine touch to the sentence.)

Dax

  • CV: Tokuyoshi Kawashima
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 40
  • Weapon: Bow gun
  • Origin: Northern Territory of Sohma, Kingdom of Resulia, Planet Faykreed
SO5_02-21-16_004.jpg

Belongs to the Special Response Tactics Group in the same hometown as Victor. He’s older than Victor, but still respects him as his boss. Although one might say the accuracy of the information brought by Dax determines the success or failure of their operations, this is no exaggeration, as Dax is the team’s important intelligence member. He is a silent character who does not often speak unless necessary.

■ Battle
Relia’s Mysterious Power
SO5_02-21-16_005.jpg

In battle, when Relia’s mysterious power is suddenly activated, the tides of battle can quickly change. It appears to be something like signeturgy and stops all enemies in their tracks.

Ally Support Skills

SO5_02-21-16_006.jpg

In battle, Relia can consume MP to activate support skills that enhance the status of her allies for a certain amount of time. These skills include weapon-based physical attack power-ups, physical defense power-ups, signeturgy-based mental attack power-ups, and mental defense power-ups.

■ Dungeons

Northern Territory of Sohma
SO5_02-21-16_007.jpg

Victor’s hometown located in the northernmost part of the Kingdom of Resulia. It had not snowed for a year here, but within two-to-three months snowfall had piled up in many areas. To the south, you can see the peaks of the snow-filled Eihied Mountains, and enjoy the tranquil and beautiful scenery.

However, unlike the tropical-style life of Sthal Village, the people of Sohma live setting their wits to work as to protect themselves from the severe winter cold.

Western Dakaav Mine

SO5_02-21-16_008.jpg

An old, now abandoned mine that connects the Kingdom of Resulia to the Kingdom of Trei’kur. Since it was once possible to mine a variety of minerals, people from all over once gathered here and its surrounding towns prospered.

Since the mine was intricately dug a long distance, the mine itself is complicated, and because it has been left alone for such a long time, there is no one that remembers a more detailed path through the tunnel. It is a place where if a single person makes the mistake of going in alone and gets lost inside, they’re at risk of losing their life.

■ Battle System

Combo Bonus and Cancel Bonus

By increasing the number of hits towards the enemy in a combo attack, you’ll trigger a Reserve Gauge-increasing “Combo Bonus.”

By letting out standard attacks and battle skills consecutively with good timing and successfully using Cancels to shorten their execution window, you’ll get an attack power-increasing “Cancel Boost.”

—Combo Bonus

For every 10 hits in a combo, you’ll get a +20 percent Combo Bonus increasing the Reserve Gauge. The maximum bonus is +300 percent at 100 hits.

SO5_03-13-16_004.jpg

—Cancel Bonus

For every Cancel, you’ll get the +25 percent strength. The maximum is +200 percent at eight Cancels.

SO5_03-13-16_005.jpg

Reserve Rush System

—Reserve Rush Type

In the settings, you can choose to set whether the controlled character triggers a Reserve Rush, or whether the character that triggers it is different from the controlled character. Choose whichever setting best fits your combat style to employ it effectively.

SO5_03-13-16_006.jpg

—Reserve Gage Amount of Consumption

When the Reserve Gauge is at two or more stocks, you can use that amount at will towards the Reserve Rush. You can have a maximum of five stocks in your Reserve Gauge.

Since your attack power and effects fluctuate based on the Reserve Gauge amount of consumption, you should decide whether you want to use it all at once, use it properly for each character, and so on based on the state of battle.

SO5_03-13-16_007.jpg

■ Battle Skills

Victor’s Battle Skills

—Diabolic Edge

SO5_03-13-16_008.jpg

Unleashes a fast, continuous attack while charging forward. After it’s triggered, Victor goes straight ahead, blowing away several enemies.

—Bloodstorm Revolution

SO5_03-13-16_009.jpg

Victor swings his weapon and creates a whirlwind that mangles up the surrounding enemies. The whirlwind changes with the flow of air pulling the target along.
