I think Uhura should definitely have a bigger and more important role in the next film. Her role should have more depth than Bones' in the overall story IMO.

No.

Bones is a primary character.

The Kirk/Spock/Bones trio is the core of TOS.

If anything it will probably get MORE focus in the sequels.

Buts its better when they change. it's called character development. Uhura didnt have anything to do thats my opinion. I mean she didnt even make ppl laugh or anything thats just how I see it she was like MEgan Fox in Transformers all she was was eye candy

...but I do love eye candy

That's all she was in the Original Series too.

Kirk's glorified secretary.

At least here she got to be a love interest and got her boobs grabbed.

Progress!

Uhura may not have gotten much screen time in the original series but, her role was still significant. She was the ship's communications adviser in the original series and in this film. I'd say that's a pretty important role.

Bones is Bones.

However, if they plan on making Uhura more of a love interest for Spock, then they will have to give her more to work with.

Well...being a race of Lizard people...they already had a lot going against them. :)

So much hate. :csad:
Now you guys just trying to make me mad. :cmad:

No they dont.

Being Spock's girlfriend doesnt give her some special right to even more focus beyond that.

We're lucky enough that we got a lot of focus for the secondary characters; they all had something memorable to do

1)Kirk
2)Spock
3)Bones
4)Sulu
5)Uhura
6)Chekov
7)Scotty

1)Spock Prime
2)Pike
3)Nero
4)Sarek
5)Amanda
6)George

1)Kirk's mom
2)Nero's second in command
3)Young kirk
4)Green girl
5)Tyler Perry

You had the 7 original main crew members to have a part.....you had about 6 secondary characters to have a part....5 or so lesser characters to give parts to.......not everyone is going to have a major role in the first movie unless it is a 10 hour miniseries.

No they dont.

I just think it would bring more to the overall scope of the story if they give her a bigger role in the sequel, instead of just being eye candy and some chick who consoles Spock all the time.

****ing Tyler Perry.... at least he didnt drag Madea into this. :whatever:

I remember a review of the movie early on saying how distracting it was to see Perry in the movie.

I barely even noticed him.

There is only ONE actress who can play Janice Rand: Mary Lynn Rajskub!

IT'S THE SAME FACE!!

My question is just what the Hell do you call the sequel?

Star Trek 2.2
? Star Trek: To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before? Star Trek: The Sequel?

I'd give the sequels their own names.

for example:

Star Trek: Conscience of the King

Star Trek: Mirror, Mirror

Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek: The First One Was So Good We Made Another.
:word:

Her primary role was to say "Message from Starfleet, Captain"
No....she was mainly the secretary.

If anything, the new movie gives her a much more important role and much more involved with the rest of the crew.

yeah well no one really outside of the big three had lots to do

Well yeah.

The big three; Kirk, Spock, Bones are Star Trek's main characters.

The others are secondary.

Always been that way.

They're supposed to represent the Ego, Superego and Id.

True. In the sequel I wanna see her kicking butt in a fight like Sulu did. Maybe while she protects.... an injured Spock! :hehe:

Yes. She somewhat played the role of secretary which didn't dimish her significant role as the ships communications officer.

Of course the movie developed her character and made her more interesting but, Uhura's role in the original series was still important.

hahaha! or why even keep "Star Trek" in the title? we can go the Nolan/Batman route, and just call the sequel "Khan Begins" or "Mirror, Mirror".
