Star Trek Sequel

So, let's hear everyone's "Yay" or "Nay" on Khan being the main villain for the next Star Trek movie!

I'd be down to see Khan, however, I'd prefer it if he weren't the focus of the film. It would be much cooler if he were featured in a pre-title sequence and then sort of fell to the background as the real story starts.

No Khan next time, but I wouldn't mind to them alluding to him in the second film. Just the idea that he's out there, getting up to trouble would be cool.

No Khan, we've seen him already. Move on.

The duo brought up how they were discussing how the unkown places of space and one big problem could be the villain. It's a nice change. The crew using their ingenuity and smarts to figure out this problem is refeshing than the villain we've seen in eleven films now.

The problem being the villain would be a cool way to do it, and I think more inventive than recycling characters like Khan just for the sake of using him.

I don't mind the "villain" being some sort of bizarre, destructive entity rather than an actual person, but they have to be careful with that sort of thing. If it works, it could be like "Sauron in space." But if it doesn't work, than it could be a rehash of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I don't think anyone wants to see that.

I actually think The Motion Picture is underrated. That film has a lot of good subtext going for it, and the parallels between Vger and Spock are great. The film is slow paced and dry at points, but I do think the film has a lot to offer in other areas. Certainly not the best of the series, but easily better than a bunch of the Trek films.

It had potential, but they squandered it with too many scenes featuring The Bald Lady (I don't care what her character's name was... she will forever be known as The Bald Lady) and Captain Decker, two characters we had no reason to care about and I still don't care about. And yeah, the snail's pacing didn't help either.

Either way though, yes, it was certainly better than "Generations."

That story wasn't really useless though. The film was about need. Kirk needed the Enterprise and the crew, since his life lacked excitement. Spock was searching for what was missing, and he found out that logic is not enough and that you need that human element in order to evolve (which is why he abandoned the Vulcan ritual of taking away all emotion). Vger needed a purpose. Decker's purpose in the film was to give Vger the human element it lacked, which was made possible due to the fact he was in love with the "bald lady" (though he started out wanting the Enterprise, it was her he actually needed). I thought it was rather well done. Sure some shots that go on too long could have been cut, but I thought the story was well layered. Not the most entertaining film of the series, but I think it was well done.

I didn't like how little McCoy had to do in TMP.

McCoy didn't really have an arc in the film, that's true. He was mostly serving as Kirk's conscience in the film.

If this ends up being in 3D, I might just crap myself.

The sequel better be called "Star Trekked" or I boycott.

I am really excited to see the next Trek movie. What has me curious is what they will do for the villain. I would think the Klingons would be the best way to go and establish the distrust/hate the empire has for James T. Kirk and the Enterprise.

YES!, they already used the klingons and had to be cut. the sequel its the perfect opportunity to introduce them.

Hopefully, Abrahms and the writers paid attention to that poll that said the fans would like to see more McCoy, more allegory, and more Klingons (and no Khan). I think after a year off from Trek, Abrahms will be back on board in no time.

More McCoy would be awesome.

Kirk, Spock and McCoy need to be the center of the film. All the other characters are pretty much secondary window dressing.

That's what worked in TOS so well.

Somewhat agreed. Ohura, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov as secondaries. All 7 are the show, otherwise it gets kind of silly.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean the other characters have to be just window dressing. I loved seeing Sulu getting some great action, and Chekov saving their asses soon after.

Can't wait. The date is great so far so I'm excited. So does this mean Abrams is coming back?

they were actual characters from Star Trek Phase 2.

Everyone should have their moment. We got that in the first film, no reason not to have it again.

Great to here they have the summer. Now I have two movies in 2012 to look forward to.

cant wait to see where they decide to go with the next film. i would totally be down for klingons.
