Star Trek Sequel

Who else wants to see the adventures of a young Piccard or an older Captain Riker take command of a brand new enterprise instead? War could break out between the Cardassians and Federation again.

I don't know why it's taking so long. They're letting the momentum of the reboot fizzle. Are there like only 5 writers in Hollywood or something?

Well, Abrams wanted to do his pet project first before tackling a ST sequel. I'd rather have Abrams take his time between projects rather than rush into another movie. Besides, I don't think he'll fully commit to ST2 until he sees a completed script.

And I don't hear a lot of people complaining about a four-year gap between Nolan's second Batman movie and the third one. Don't see why people are complaining about Abrams doing the same thing. In addition to that, the writers were off doing Cowboys & Aliens and Promethus respectively. It wasn't like Abrams were just lying around waiting for the perfect story to pop up in their heads.

That's a bingo.

I think most just want to see some space battles in the next movie, it wouldn't hurt to have some sort of fighting in these films if they want to go more mainstream. Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Cardassians are all over done it seems. Everyone wants Talosians, Kahn, and others to do it because they are the more interesting villains from the original series. Why does anyone want to keep digging these up? Personally I think its time for villains who are not humanoid aliens anymore and have something much more interesting to show the diversity of the universe. Star Trek's conceptual design for aliens are stuck in the 60s!

then where would kirk put it? kirk with a non humanoid is just gross, lol.

There's got to be some sort of hole on it. Somewhere. :o

Knowing Kirk, he'd make a hole if one did not exist.

Well it official that Abrams is back...I think.

In what is probably one of the most non-surprising news bits in recent history, J.J. Abrams has officially committed to directing Star Trek 2. It’s been widely assumed for some time that Abrams would return to helm the sequel to his 2009 blockbuster. However, several delays eventually led Paramount to replace Star Trek 2 with G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation in its June 29th, 2012 release slot and the director told us back in August that he wouldn’t officially sign on until “everything was in place.”

Apparently, that time has come as Vulture reports that said delays are now a thing of the past now that co-writer Alex Kurtman has completed work on his directorial debut, DreamWorks’ Welcome to People. Per the report, Abrams and co. are now ready to focus on Trek 2 and are looking to begin shooting the much-anticipated pic this winter. Now that everything is “official,” Trek fans can finally get back to worrying less about who will direct and more about how they’ll be able to cope with “Average Joe Off the Street” enjoying their beloved franchise.

No thanks. They shouldn't be thinking backwards with this movie. They should create a new villain

Not to mention they've mentioned that their number one choice for the role is Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert, Mayor of Gotham, BatManuel [who ironically played Ricardo Montalbán's son in Kim Possible])

Why does everyone want the return of Khan? Is it because he is only decent single enemy that has been written in the series?

I personally don't want to see Khan because it wouldn't make a whole lotta sense.

But I still think it would be interesting if they introduced the Borg.

About time Abrams got started on this.

Not too keen on seeing Khan all over again. However, Nestor Carbonell wouldn't be a bad choice if we did have to have him.

But since this timeline is completely screwed, we could have other original series villains like Gary Mitchell (Where No Man Has Gone Before) or maybe, instead of the Borg, we could have a proper version of Balok from The Corbomite Maneuver. He was just a puppet in the original episode, but he could be a real villain this time. He had a Borg-like ship that was invincible. That would be better than seeing the Borg, which suggests that they have run out of ideas and have to resort to using TNG and Voyager villains.

I think that the original pilor episode where a friend of Kirk became a god could be an interesting story for the movie.

Even though they have been working on other projects, they will have been discussing ideas over the last couple of years, and I think this is part of the problem. They haven't cracked that great idea yet.

They had it easy with the first movie, showing us a story we hadn't seen before in Trek, the origin of the original crew, but to come up with something that doesn't just feel like a big budget ep of the tv series, or a retread of an idea/villan we have seen before, that is a difficult idea to come up with.

edit: The last thing they want is for the critics to backlash on them, cause they were all 'Star Trek is revitalised!' , and could just as easily come out with 'Star Trek is stale again! We have seen it all before!'
That is what will probably happen, whatever they come up with, we will most likely have seen before.

Word around the street was Abrams had rejected every story idea pitched and the one holding everything up. Not Kurtzman's directing gig as been used as the official excuse.

As widely reported last year, K&O had a Christmas 2010 deadline to submit their first draft in order to Abrams to read it and approve or disapprove.

If they wait any longer this film will turn into a "five year mission"

I'm glad to hear that Abrams is finally committed to the movie now that they have got the story down to continue on from the ST '09. Can't wait.

The Talosians are an enemy that could be interesting to me. But a whole new race or concept is very important too.
