could it be that Abrams never wanted to make a sequel? maybe he used ST to get more attention in hollywood and get exprience with a big effects movie.

They waited a lot longer on this then I thought they would. I would have thought the studio wanted to rush it through to keep momentum and then after another movie or two reintroduce Star Trek to TV with the new universe (but not centered on the enterprise obviously)

Tholians would be great! What an underused Star Trek species...

Funny because he used the chance of working with Fox to pitch Fringe :woot:

Klingons claim the colonies abandoned by the Vulcans who were wiped out by Nero. Some scenes of the full scale war could work.

Who wants M'ress (the sexy feline alien girl) and Arrex from the animated show in this sequel? i would, i want them to have their film debut.

I really think they are waiting too long and it is sort of killing the momentum and popularity of the new movie.

Well i be damned, i think he should join the crew. How about M'ress? remember her?

They do have that game coming out set in the new Movie Universe. So that should drum up some interest

I sincerelly think that they should make a new Tv show

I hope Abrams is actually in love with this second film and is not just doing it because he feels he has to. The wait worries me a bit in terms of script. Hopefully this delivers. I'm awaiting to see if they can top the first. It will be hard, but it's possible.

I don't think the momentum is dying, however I do wish they had continued to keep more interest going, with stuff like a cartoon series and books (they canceled four novels but kept a line of teen books going).

If asked right now I think Abrams would rather work on another maybe personal project, I don't think his heart is in this film like it was his other films. He just strikes me as a non sequel type of guy and would rather return as producer ala mission impossible.

The studio wanted this film out 2 years, instead it will take 4? Not even Nolan is that gangster with the execs. Doesn't help that the stars have pretty much been in limbo. Would have been a good opportunity to boost their appeal with all the time they had.

I think Abrams probably doesn't know where to go with this franchise. Also, he has a tendency to reboot things (he did this several times in Alias, either from one season to the next, or within a season) with the mindset that he is keeping things fresh (or he's running out of ideas). He might end up doing the same with Trek.

About time Abrams waited for this, now I hope they get the ball rolling and kick on with this as it has already been a long wait for news, never mind the movie!

TDKR will come out 4 years after TDK.

But Nolan is happy to be back for Batman, Abrams doesn't seem as interested for star trek 2

i think its the same with Nolan and batman 3. he is doing the movie so that he will be able to do more movies at WB. and have a lot of control. he has IMO a fantastic contract for future movies.

Funny how J.J.Abrams also made the Star Trek reboot very similar to Star Wars, doesn't he want to pull an Empire Strikes Back?

The thing that I've learned about J.J. Abrams watching his TV work for 10 years now, is that his main interest seems to lie in the setup of a story. He loves to tell origin stories, and doesn't really seem to make long term plans with his stories (which why Whedon will always trump him as my TV King). He has a hard time following through on things once they get going, and always leaves that part to other people - it's like he just has a short attention span or loses interest or something.

This is the first movie franchise he's been the ringleader on, so I'm curious to see how long he lasts. I don't expect him to commit to a 3rd one, tbh.

What the hell are you talking about? He's doing it because he thinks it is necessary for the story. He is telling a story he believes need be told. The entire cast and crew has confirmed this and even when asked back when TDK was coming out, he said he would ONLY do another one if he felt the story he had in mind could work. They worked out a few drafts of scripts and now they're filming the movie. This is a COMPLETELY different case to Abrams with Star Trek.
