Barry's literally a playable character in Revelations 2, but I don't know how the canon works these days with the remakes.

Is Revelations 2 still canon? No idea.

Revelations 1 and 2 are side games, similar to Outbreak 1/2 and Chronicles 1/2. And who knows if they are going to reference them in future games. It was quite shocking, when they used a character from Outbreak for Requiem and its not even a small role.

Like I said, no longer know how canon works in this franchise.

Also, I'd call the Revelations games more than side games since they feature pretty major events and characters. I guess technically they aren't mainline games, but they are still significant to the overall timeline. I mean you could play as Claire in Revelations 2.

I'd put them on a similar level as RE: Zero.

Anyone new to the series would probably likely to skip or miss Revelations and Revelations 2 because its not a numbered game compare to 0, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, though the 2nd one has a number, there's already a RE2 remake. While 7 and 8 aren't numbered technically, those are recent games. I just don't think Capcom has given extra attention to the Revelations games, especially in anniversary videos in which they show montages of previous games, so yes those are side games, as far as I can observe.

I definitely view the Revelations games as side games but would still count them as canon. The numbered games are just much bigger and more ambitious in scope and then you play Revelations which is this handheld thing they ported up to other consoles.

RE0 definitely has more meats on its bones and for me it definitely falls in line with the mainline games. The only big downside with RE0 is that a lot of what happens in the game either goes against what happens in RE1 or makes it worse.

Re0 is getting a remake so that should be interesting. We should get a 2nd remake of re1 at some point. To finally tie all these remakes together.
