Star Wars 30th Anniv. DVDs

I reckon they'll make an announcement at Celebration 4 with their sights on a September/October release date to cash in on the Christmas market. I really hope they've put some effort in with this Boxset and fixed the cockups from the '04 set(lightsabers!!) as well as other changes(add CG Yoda to TPM). This will more than likely be the last SW release on the DVD format so fingers crossed it's a good one!

Wow, George Lucas wants more money...

I hope the fix some things like the lightsabers this time around.

Lucas will probably just throw them out in another cool and fancy cover. I got the '04 version, not buying anymore.

And Star Wars 3D will NOT happen, it's been confirmed that the talk of the 3D stuff was just rumor last year.

How about the 3 Billion he has sitting in his bank account.

There definitely needs to be some sort of incentive for people to buy this set.

Why?

The people who wanted Star Wars on DVD already have it. You have the prequels for those who liked them, the clone wars tv series, the '04 release of the original trilogy, the re-release of the original trilogy in '05, and the re-re-release of the original trilogy with the original version of the original trilogy last year.

It's almost as bad as Paramount was with the Star Trek movies. Everytime the 2-disc version of each movie came out, Paramount released a box-set with the recent 2-disc version

How do you expect him to get his kids through college?

On their own merit? :csad:

I feel sorry for his kids.Think of all the tutors who will be marking their essays, about to write B+, and then remember Attack of the Clones and change it to a D-. :(

I doubt it and hope not. It's the 30th Anniversary so he's bound to make more of an effort. There has to be some sort of incentive for fans who already own the '04 set and the prequel DVDs, to buy this set.

Purely for those reasons. This set will have to be different somehow to the versions that are already in the market.
There are still problems with the OT, caused mainly by the '04 restoration work - the lightsabers look terrible and there's some audio problems. Also the puppet Yoda in TPM is meant to have been replaced with a CG model, to match up with the other 2 prequels so I'd say there's a good chance there'll be an updated TPM with that change.

The only differences between the versions of the original trilogy on DVD were the covers, and last year's set had the original version on the second disc.

Other than that, they were exactly the same.

If you want to throw your money away buying the same movies over and over and over again, be my guest.

I'll just laugh at your stupidity and gullibility

Yeah, that's because they were marketed as the ORIGINAL versions of the movies!! The '04 set had changes and FX clean ups as I'd say this upcoming set will have so they're not necessarily the same movies.

But hey if it makes you sleep better at night, laugh away!

I'd rather see the original versions released in theatres and then have the big boxset come out.

This. Man. Must. Be. Stopped.

Perhaps this time Lucas can edit in some emotion into the characters and remove all the crappy dialogue.

"Star Wars: Silent Film Edition"

I guess our blood wasn't enough...now he's going for our souls? I'm fine with a new set of DVDs. However, don't keep saying that this is the last time or the only set and then turn around a year later and release another one.

if these aren't in blu-ray/hd-dvd, then there's no point in releasing them. he just really needs to knok it off. there's nothing left that he can add to the dvd's already out that's worth dropping money on.

Sports thinks....that Lucas should release extra packed dvds of the first three flicks (4,5,6)...and...yeah, 1,2,3 wouldn't that good. A boxset will happen sooner or later he thinks.

IF and when Star Wars comes to any High Def Format,It will be Blu-Ray...why? Cause Star Wars is distributed by Fox,and Fox is Blu-Ray exclusive! HD DVD dead.

Natalie Portman sex scene?

I haven't bought any of original films on DVD and received EII/EIII for Christmas. The others are on VHS and Empire has no sound. So eventually I'll pick up the original trilogy, just waiting to see what this 30th Anniversary set has to offer besides fancy packaging.

Umm, you can. This nonsense about not being able to find the originals is a bunch of crap. Like someone said, amazon has the VHS tapes for nothing. Borders and Barnes & Noble have the DVDs with the originals. Quit *****ing about nothing.

VHS tapes. Are you serious? Why don't you just spit in my face?

And those DVDs are bull****. The transfer is non-anamorphic. Do you know what anamorphic is? (if you think VHS is a viable option these days, probably not).

When Lucas releases anamorphic dvds or hd dvds of the original trilogy, I will happily buy them. But I'm not paying for s**t.

As for your King Kong comment, like I said before, adding CGI is no different than colorizing old B&W films. If you want the originals, watch them, but there's no reason to shun technology updates.
I can see you're not a film buff. Firstly, colourizing black and white films is horrible. It looks hidious, is a slap in the face to the film maker (Hey! Let's colourize Dr Strangelove! Or Schindler's List!! :whatever: ).

But colouring film footage and adding in CGI are two completely different things. Do you get that? Don't you see what a fantastic film King Kong is, even with its 1930s effects? It doesn't NEED anything else! It's a masterpiece as it is. And so is Star Wars.

Wow, thanks for all your assumptions about me. I do know what anamorphic is. I know plenty about film. Save your tripe about stylistic black and white choices vs forced B&W. Maybe you aren't hearing me, jackass. I like the originals better myself. But I don't give a **** if anyone (especially the ACTUAL CREATOR) wants to update them with the latest technology.
And also, you say you want an HD-DVD anamorphic version of the OT? What, you want some technology updates but not others? Quit picking and choosing.

What do you expect? I don't know anything about you. I have to make my assumptions about you based on what you say. Read your previous posts with fresh eyes and maybe you'll see where I'm coming from.

And for the record, I don't care if Lucas makes changes to his films. He can do whatever he likes - as long as he makes the unaltered originals available in a high quality format. They're not just films, they're major pieces of film history (especially the first one).
