EA Star Wars: Battlefront II

Is it weird that I found the trailer for the story in this one to be more interesting than Episode 8?

I don't think so.

Nothing they've shown or said about TLJ has really excited me. Ryan Johnson and curiosity are the only reasons I want to see it. Hopefully it's more than the ESB remake for the Chinese market that it appears to be, but I'm not expecting much.

We are talking about characters that really don't matter here and have a super vague story with little to no consequence. And the other features the return of Luke Skywalker, the first Jedi Temple, Kylo potentially killing his mother, and Rey facing down Snoke.

Also, the Chinese market? What the hell... :funny:

Basically EA are trying to bore players into purchasing these characters. 30-40 hours to unlock something is absurd, they're banking on players getting frustrated at not being able to unlock the characters quicker. It might technically not be pay to win, but it's definitely pay to avoid frustration.

Which is why I am considering not getting it. I want this game to play as the heroes, and I can't do that because, why? They are trying to bleed people dry?

At which point, it might as well be f2p. This is what it reeks of to me. I play one of their mobile games. It isn't too terrible, but they clearly bait us into paying for some stuff.

They are an embarrassment:

[Update 7:00PM] - The EA Community Team took to Reddit today to respond to critics about how it takes to earn stuff in the game. “Our goal involves creating a compelling progression path for all of our players,” the comment began. “There’s a lot of content at launch with even more coming via live service, and we’ll continuously adjust our progression mechanics to give players a sense of accomplishment as they explore all of Battlefront 2.”

The EA Reddit account continued,

“Heroes earned through Credits: The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes. We selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

Credits Earned: We’re looking at the results daily and will be continuing to tune this to ensure that players feel a meaningful sense of reward for the time they spend with Battlefront 2.”

If pride and accomplishment was such a big thing for them they wouldn't put a price on the hero characters in the first place. I've got no issue with having to reach achievements in a game, but you're asking people to essentially play a full working weeks worth of game to reach one. Most people wouldn't achieve 40 hours worth of play in an entire year. I'm keeping my money that's for sure. Shame, coz the game looks good.

And its for 1 character. 1. You get there after all that grinding and have to pick one. How does that make you want to play the game more?

The joke here is so obvious that I don't even need to make it.
I am sorry you did not watch the trailers, TFA or the OT. You should give them a go. They are pretty popular.

EA Reddit response to this is apparently now the most down-voted post in Reddit history.

From memory, I've played the first Battlefront for like ten hours. :funny:

I decided against the DE for this one. Will pick up the standard.

Maybe not purchasing the game would be a better option.

If they want to make it an achievement all they need to do it keep the cost high but change it so that Heroes are unlocked automatically for their normal era but the unlock is for allowing players to use them in other eras. So using Rey with Resistance teams is available to all but if you see her in a Clone team then it is an achievement.

If it was about achievement, they wouldn't sell the cash. Its BS PR speak that just makes me angrier.

What an achievement, spending 180 hours playing a game without upgrading anything in order to unlock content you paid for. Doesn't turn it into a chore designed to make you give up and just pay for it at all.

You have to be vocal with your wallets on this one. That is the only thing EA is going to listen to. Simply do not buy it or at the very least get it used or second hand. The push to sell games as 60 dollar services has to stop.

The fact of the matter is most people aren't going to do that. Their integrity only goes so far. They'll raise their voice against it but when it comes time to deny experiencing it they'll stop short. And I'm using "they" here in quotation. It's hypocrisy, but we're all guilty of it.

We are indeed, but that's what these companies are counting on. It's something fans will have to do for themselves and it's a hard cycle to break. I have not pre-ordered a game since 2015, I've also made efforts to keep my nostalgia in check. Without the Star Wars IP, this game would already be DOA. In a couple of months you'll be able to get the game for a third of the price.

Grabbing my deluxe edition tomorrow! Can’t wait.
