Rebels Star Wars: Rebels

Well this pilot was better than the Clone Wars movie, but TCW went on to be pretty damn great imo. Whether this will is still up in the air.

For the most part I think the animation was easy on the eyes with a nice color range. The only thing I absolutely do not like is the wookies. The ones in TCW looked so much better.

Ill keep tuning in.

I absolutely loved it. The moment it was revealed that the rebel leader was a Jedi gave me goosebumps.

I loved it I think it is going to make a great series. I do hope that we see some characters from Clone Wars in, especially Ahsoka, Darth Maul. I want to see those characters resolved. I would also like to see other characters make an appearance mainly Vader and the Emperor.

I think best way to bring Obi-Won back for guest appearance is flashback before order 66.

Nice start! Loved the sound. Characters seem interesting.

Sabine was my favorite character in this.

I like her but she didn't really have a lot to do in the episode. We got more stuff with the rest of the Rebels than we did her. Still, her character concept is neat and her design is cool.

So did anyone else get the sense that Kanan and Hera might be a couple? She did call him "love" at one point and they did seem rather close.

I wonder how long before the kid gets a lightsaber. As that is the first step before training begins

"Love" like "sweety" and "honey" and "darling" etc are used among platonic friends. I know Ive heard the British use "love" in a platonic way, and even use it when addressing people they aren't in a relationship with. Herra and Kanan are certainly close, but her calling him "love" isn't much of an indicator of a relationship beyond friends. We'll see tho. Its definitely something the show could develop. That's if Disney is interested in something like that. TCW had some love subplots and relationships, but I do wonder whether this new show will be lighter and skirt adult storylines what with it being on DisneyXD.

Hera has been my favorite character so far. I do think there is something there between her and Kanan. Now how much or if it is explored remains to be determined.

One issue I have with this show, as I really have had with all of Star Wars since, I guess Return of the Jedi is that it doesn't seem to know if it's a kid's show, or something aimed at an older audience.

The young spunky Mandalorian in pink armor who likes to tag things sounds very much like it belongs in a kids' show. But then she goes and blows people up. The show doesn't linger on it, but she has clearly just killed several people.

The imperial officers (well, not so much Kallus) are treated comedically, but are actually killing people.

I'm not saying they can't have humor, but I just find this... odd?

The troopers have always been cannon fodder tho. And I think Lucas has always tried to walk the line with Star Wars. Something that has stuff for a wide range of age groups. He was inspired by the old serials. Nothing wrong with that. The most successful franchise in the history of cinema (Harry Potter) appealed to ages 5-95. A lot of movies try to do this.

The only moment that made me go "Hmmm" was when the Imperial Officer kicked that Trooper to his death at the end. I know the Imperials are the bad guys, but they all aren't sociopaths and while that one may be a sociopath, that is a living human he just kicked to his death for no good reason, and its presented as being funny. Its not like the droids in TCW that were machines. Under that white armor are people, and that can't and shouldn't be handled and treated like the droids in TCW. Dave Filoni needs to recognize this fact.

I love that being a Jedi and having a lightsaber is such a big deal here. I get that it's because the Jedi are nearly extinct but the prequels made lightsabers and force adepts so common they became unremarkable.

I never felt like the amount of Jedi was a problem. It was making so many of them unremarkable, so many of them unforgettable, so many just simply cannon fodder.

I knew virtually nothing about the show going in and my expectations were fairly low,but I enjoyed it.I was surprised (and relieved) to find Kanan was a Jedi.I was expecting a largely Jedi-less universe and that would've been no fun,IMO.:STR:

Watched the 3rd episode with the droids. I didn't quite like it as much as the first two eps. A bit jam-packed.

Chopper is great and funny. Whether playing in a ruse or otherwise.

Ezra starting to get a bit whiny. Can't have a main character without that trait! Star Wars trope. At least his Jedi training might get going real soon.

Liked seeing Organa at the end.

loved the pilot!!

Sabine is :hrt:.

got goosebumps when the Force theme motif started playing.

but now I guess I have to watch the rest of the eps online. why couldn't they have just put this series on the regular Disney Channel? :csad:

are you watching the eps online from the Disney XD site?

I watched premiere via VOD. This third ep didn't show up on VOD though so I had to watch it on the Disney XD site.

Dang it, I absolutely hate that this was the first thing I noticed since I loathe being "that guy" and can't stand it when people make *everything* political but seriously Star Wars? A chance to create new characters with no ties to the canon and they *all* (so far) have to be white in appearance or alien? Really?!

I'm not even the person to normally point that out as I've sort of gotten used to being under-represented but you're seriously telling me that there have only been two notable humanoids of color in the history of the galaxy?

John Boyega better have a damn meaty role in EP7 or else this is getting to be friggin' ridiculous.

Otherwise, an enjoyable first episode (wonky character animation, but I'm sure it'll smooth out), but just... gah.

John is reported to be the co-lead with Daisy, and Ezra doesn't seem white to me. If anything he looks like a young Aladdin.

And while she made her debut in A new Dawn novel, I very much to see Sloane make an appearance in the show, and she is a black, female Star Destroyer Captain.

Rebels, Kanan Jarrus, and the Race Factor

As the last episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars find their way into the light of day, one era of televised Star Wars comes to a close and a new one dawns. The Clone Wars are over, the Empire has risen, and the dark times are upon us as Star Wars: Rebels prepares to premiere this fall. Slowly but surely, we’re learning what Rebels has to offer the Star Wars universe, including a cast of characters that appears as diverse in origin and personality as they are of ethnicity.

"Didn’t realize that my two tweets would fuel such insight or analysis. So here is an answer: Yes, the human leads are all multiracial. Neither the subject matter nor the reactions of any online communities give me pause in stating as much." --Commenter claiming to be Pablo Hidalgo (Lucasfilm Brand Communications Manager)

I guess we'll see whenever JJ decides to unclench the mystery box from betwixt his ironclad butt-cheeks, but that's good to hear.

Really? At best you could call Ezra ambiguously ethnic (though why make his eyes blue?), and even that's a stretch. Honestly though, if that's the only bone Star Wars could see fit to throw a POC then just forget it.

Anyway, sorry to make that a "thing". The overall episode was fine, though again, the character animation needs smoothing out and please please find a new way to render hair. Ezra's mop and those Wookies were just the worst. Felt like late 90s Saturday morning cartoon level CG. Woof.

EDIT: re Magnar, I'll have to take that LucasFilm quote at face value, I guess. I don't see anything particularly multi-racial about Kanan or Sabina or even Ezra, really. Of course, we don't know what "race" would even mean in different parts of the galaxy. Lois Lane and Superman would still have a baby that looked Caucasian (presumably), even though yes, technically the baby would be "bi-racial", so that doesn't really mean a whole lot if their appearance still reads as white. Maybe they should've tried harder in their character design, and then it wouldn't need explaining?

Interesting, when I first laid eyes on all the human leads I could tell they were POC in some capacity.

Compare their appearances to the Imperial lead character, Agent Kallus - and you can see it.

I do wonder why Disney put this on DisneyXD instead of Disney Channel. Do they just not care about purposefully limiting their viewership? Or did they do it to increase traffic on DisneyXD.com?
