Rebels Star Wars: Rebels

The SSM character designs just showed me not to judge a book by it's cover. I thought the character designs were ****ing awful, but then I watched the episodes and was like "Whaaaaat?"

Good point, but I didn't care about the TCW animation until season 3 where it got better and less stiff. (I also didn't like it at first because I adored the micro series) I would think they would use what they learned from TCW. Either way, I will be trying out the show.

I wish I could take credit, but yesterday morning I saw a post on another website about a couple of characters being spotted in her graffiti, and then yesterday evening, I saw the specific picture on twitter. (That IS my crude circle, though...lol)

I hope that's not simply a nod by Filoni to former Clone Wars fans. I hope that, at some point, both of these characters will appear on Rebels. I'd also like to see Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka down the road.

The circle is complete! :D

Agreed on all 4 and there's really no reason they can't all appear, especially given the fact the Clone Wars got cut short so their pre-ANH fates were left up in the air.

Great point, when I first sat down to watch an ep of that before Christmas I never thought I'd end up watching the 2 full seasons, a week later I was addicted.

So far I'm looking forward to Sabine the most from this show. I'm a fan of of the Mandalorians, and one that is a part of the main cast has me excited. Also even though some seem concerned, I like where they are headed with her character. Likes graffiti gives me a punk Mandalorian impression and I like it.

Out of curiosity... but does anyone get - or hope we'll get - a Firefly vibe from this show? I do, especially with how the show revolves around a crew of colourful outlaws and their ship trying to stay one step ahead of the authorities.

On a related note, I hope the Ghost will be the show's seventh main character. Not so much as a talking AI or anything like that but like Serenity, in that it has so much personality and plays a big role in the lives of its crew. I think the CGI medium will help realise this as it allows the ship's interior and exterior as a single piece, rather than three separate pieces a la Serenity (cargo bay, first floor, exterior).

And for those who haven't the foggiest what I'm talking about, click below:

Sabine makes perfect sense to me; the Clone Wars staff made a concerted effort to try and give the Mandos a unique cultural identity and even a specifically popular type of art. Heck, it was really the only thing most people seemed to agree was a nice touch regardless of the rest of your opinions on the group, and sense Satine and Viszla seemed to be art lovers, we already had the contradiction in full place.

We see the mainstream Mandalorian artwork is very cubist, with hard lines and a less literal translation of images and ideas. We also see the Death Watch embrace customization and rough personal artwork on their armor; there's still some uniform regimentation, but a lot of those little logos clearly bring to mind WWII-style airplane paint jobs. And even when Maul takes over, they basically "tag" their look to show their affiliation.

Now we've got a Mandalorian rebel. Let me repeat that; rebel. How is punk-rock style graffiti and fashion not inherently rebellious in a universe ruled by the Galactic Empire? They won't even let their troopers paint their armor anymore, even though that is a proven strategic advantage in managing logistics and helping morale. Of course people are going to start using graffiti to speak out, and from a society that walks the line between authoritarian and vaguely fascistic culture and chaotic barbarian mores, some people are going to go one extreme over the other.

So she's really in perfect sync with what we know about Mandalorians and what we know about her affiliations. If she's hanging out with Rebels and not her own people, it would make sense she'd develop a strong sense of identity, and that she's go a little crazy.

And personally, I'm just hoping that means we eventually meet a bad Mandalorian with a more stark and austere sense of style to drive the point home.

didn't the Death Watch in Clone Wars have those cool black "vibro blades?"

maybe Sabine will carry that as a weapon too.

I think there was only one that they stole from the Jedi archives. After the events of Clone Wars, it falls into the possession of Darth Maul. And considering what happened after that, it is probably in the possession of Sidious.

So, no, they weren't standard issue Mandalorian weapons.

ah. :csad:

Well, thus far, Sabine's gear comprises primarily of a blaster pistol, explosives and a spray can. Given how marketable light sabers are, odds are that if the Mandalorian girl did indeed use something akin to it, it would've surfaced in the show's recent marketing for said character.

Someone's opinion piece:

Rebels, Kanan Jarrus, and the Race Factor

As the last episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars find their way into the light of day, one era of televised Star Wars comes to a close and a new one dawns. The Clone Wars are over, the Empire has risen, and the dark times are upon us as Star Wars: Rebels prepares to premiere this fall. Slowly but surely, we’re learning what Rebels has to offer the Star Wars universe, including a cast of characters that appears as diverse in origin and personality as they are of ethnicity.

"Didn’t realize that my two tweets would fuel such insight or analysis. So here is an answer: Yes, the human leads are all multiracial. Neither the subject matter nor the reactions of any online communities give me pause in stating as much." --Commenter claiming to be Pablo Hidalgo (Lucasfilm Brand Communications Manager)

I think you are talking about the Darksaber. It is a one off Jedi relic. A precursor lightsaber. They can't mass produce them and Maul had it at series end.

don't know what it was called, but it certainly looked cool.

'Star Wars Rebels': Dave Filoni takes 'Star Wars' back to its roots

...............

"The biggest thing is you want older fans to watch and say, 'Wow that looks like "Star Wars,"' and I want the younger fans who have never experienced it before to experience it the way I experienced 'A New Hope,'" Filoni said.

And no one working on "Star Wars" today is better qualified to provide that original "Star Wars" effervescence than Filoni, who estimates he's overseen something like 46 hours of "Star Wars," working closely alongside Lucas himself for most of the eight years he's been at Lucasfilm.

"I'm definitely the spokesman from the 'Star Wars' legacy side of things," Filoni says of working alongside such newcomers to the universe as fellow executive producers Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman.

But while the people making it may change, the "Star Wars" fandom stays the same, even as it grows more excited to see the new era dawn.

"Without even one episode of 'Rebels' airing, people [online] have already figured out how they're going to kill off characters," Filoni said. "Morbid but exciting, I think."

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Dave Filoni Looks Back at Season 6 and the Show's Final Episodes
Our wrap up discussion with The Clone Wars supervising director on the show's final storylines.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has come to an end, with the thirteen-episode final season making its debut on Netflix recently. With the show over, I spoke to the show’s supervising director, Dave Filoni, for an in-depth, lengthy conversation about the storylines in Season 6, the big revelations that occurred and yes, a bit on the things that were never completed, when the decision was made to end the series.

Filoni spoke about the thought-process behind what we saw in the final season, how certain key moments came to be and much more, and also touched upon the upcoming series, Star Wars Rebels.

continued...

It's on page 5.

I seriously can't wait...I LOVED The Clone Wars...I hope they keep the mature themes.

I don't think Rebels will be as mature as Clone Wars but it will be mature enough, it will go to some dark places and it's going to have the same tone as Spectacular Spider-man which was why Greg Waisman was hired.

it'll be interesting if it's not considering these are the "dark times" in Star Wars lore.

I know The Inquisitor is the main villain, but do you think we will see Vader every once in a while. Or even Tarkin or Palpatine pop up.

Cosplay for a show that hasn't even aired yet? Oh nerds... sometime I have to tip my hat.

I saw a tweet from their Wondercon presentation saying that they were trying to go for a more classically animated look with Rebels, rather than trying to capture realism like on Clone Wars.
