Wow.

R.I.P. General Hammond of Texas. :csad:

I sincerely hope they dedicate at least one episode of SGA next season to his memory. To do anything less would be unacceptable.

Have they started making the Continuum DVDs yet? If they haven't then they still have time to make a feature for his last SG appearance.

Wow, that's awful. My condolences to his family. The show won't be the same knowing Hammond will never appear again. :(

Honestly, one of my first reactions after reading the news was "with Continuum coming out so soon, I guess I can rule out a 'in memory of Don S. Davis' title card at the end." I'd certainly love anything they could have to honor him, even if it's what a friend of mine suggested, a paper insert in the packaging.

carrrnuttt, I hope you're right that they dedicate an SGA episode to him, it's only right.

Now I am going to honor Davis by tracking down as many great Hammond episodes as I can find, starting with season 4's Chain Reaction.

I'm gonna look for a good Screencap of DSD smiling then do some kind of banner or wallie or something

Don't forget 1969. That's my personal favorite Hammond ep.
Ooh, that is a good one...don't know how I forgot it (works out, Chain Reaction just ended and I came on to see if anyone had posted suggestions).

Also...if anyone happens to have an audio clip of Hammond saying "open the Iris," you'd earn my eternal gratitude as I want to make it my phone's ringtone. I've been looking for it on and off for the past few months and have gotten precisely nowhere.

As excited as I am for a new SG-1 film, they did have an episode where the past was changed and Daniel Jackson and Sam Carter were civilians, and SG-1 never existed...so I don't get why they are kind of re-hashing it with a bigger budget?? I'll still watch it of course

did you see AOT??? The whole movie was one recycled piece of trash. They took almost all the good parts from the SG1 series, reorganized them into a movie, and threw a bigger budget at it. Not only did it not turn out as when they were done the first time, but those scenes/themes/points that were recycled, actually turned out worse, than the first time. (ie. Ancients helping Teal'c find the way,,, much better done in Abyss).

I am therefore expecting nothing but trash from this next movie, especially given the 'alternate' universe aspect of the narrative.

If you think it's trash... don't watch it.

Simple as...

nope, we will watch, and see if SG has truely fallen into a pertpetual cycle of rehashing things they have already done. And then I will complain about it, and try and understand why you guys are still addicted.

Because it's familiar and comfortable. SG-1 is at the stage where it doesn't even really have to be good anymore for me. It just has to not be totally horrible, stay true to the characters, and throw a few funny moments in. I've lowered my standards for SG-1 to such a level over the last few years that that really is enough for me.

agreed... the last couple of seasons + movie have been far below the quality that earlier SG1 had. And I suppose I will watch for the same reason, familiarity. And as long as the new movie is not horrible, I'll watch it: But that's what makes me sad. The fact that I'll watch because it's not horrible, vs. the idea of watching it, because the movie is actually good (ahem, and original)

In all fairness, it is pretty tough to remain original after 10 seasons and change. But, also in fairness, even when the SG-1 team tries to be original (like with the Ori), they tend to rehash (gods SG-1 tries to prove are shams, staff weapons, better ships and weapons that SG-1 overcomes through a series of deus ex machinas, etc.).

I talking more about the direct narrative reuse. There are many places I think stargate could go, they just always seem to go to the same places these days. Atlantis has compounded the problem.

I would really love to see a story about the first quest against the Ori. You know, done with Medieval knights, using the gates to help merlin... but way back in the day. A prequel to the Ori.

But how would SG-1 be involved in that? The show's still gotta center on them.

could be a time travel movie... like this one, just a little fresher. The alternate universe stuff was interesting, but annoying, because generally, they're dead end narrative lines. No fun in such a fleshed out universe

Awwww not General Hammond :( At least we get to see him one last time in Continuum

no ****ing way.....

God damn those bastards.....Thats me outta here till i get my copy

Yep and its a dvd copy this time instead of like with Ark Of Truth when there were special effects missing
