Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe

it's an alt reality..... in a way it's a shame the penultimate episodof SG:A is an Alt-reality one.

But some of the blurb about EATG sound great.

Well, the final SG-1 episode featured an alternate reality, and then the second DTV movie did as well. It seems to be a growing thing with the Stargate creators. I guess they like the freedom to do all kinds of wonky stuff they'd never be able to do in the regular universe.

I think my problem with this episode was that I didn't get that sense of impending doom with Keller. She went to the executioner with far too little resistance.

And I wasn't invested in what was happening. I didn't care about Neeva enough to be shocked or distraught over her fate at the end. Nor did I go the other way and think she was so bad that she deserved her fate.

I was happy she apparently got shot in the face, not because she was particularly evil, but because she annoyed me.

yeah, but the thing with SG1, was that it had it's real series finale a few years earlier than it's actual series finale.

Apparently Vegas and Enemy at the Gate are tied by the alternate reality story.

Thats
correct

In EATG the team finds a transmission from the Vegas reality that is sent to an advanced wraith ship. the transmission has Earth co-ordinates in it.

Ladies and Gentlemen.... Stargate:Universe has it's lead actor

Robert Carlyle.

Described as edgier, darker and younger-skewing than its predecessors, "SGU" follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by Dr. David Rush (Carlyle), who works to unlock the ship's mysteries and return the group home but also might have ulterior motives.

this is the only positive news about this show I've heard

What an insanely random pick. I'm surprised Carlyle would do Stargate. I guess they're trying to recapture the name-power RDA brought to SG-1.

Here's a great interview with David Hewlett: http://io9.com/5108921/the-great-rodney-mckay-says-goodbye-to-stargate-atlantis?skyline=true&s=i

I loved this part:

Let's talk about "Brain Storm", easily one of the best episodes this season. You brought in real life scientists, what was it like working with the scientists like Mr. Bill Nye? And finally taking your relationship with Keller gets to go to a whole new level?

The great thing about "Brain Storm" was that as cool as Atlantis is, it's really nice for Atlantis to get away from Atlantis. It's really nice to get back to Earth, I love the Earth based episodes, you get out of the silly costumes and away from all the technology, and you get to have, it feels like you're actually doing a different show almost for a change, and the other thing, we got, you know Neil deGrasse Tyson, incredibly well known real scientists who are terrifyingly smart and actually terrifyingly good actors, so I think I'm well out of work now.

Well I thought Bill did a great job.

So did I! Bill Nye, so that guy truly knows everything, and I tested him. I'd come in every day with some new question for him that I'd assuming he'd have no idea basically how to answer it – basically he knows everything.

You tested Bill Nye the Science Guy?

Well when I say tested I mean, I'd go "hmmm," for example, "why when I turn my microwave on does my internet connection go down," like there's no way bill nye is gonna be able to answer that question. He did. He really is, it's like a walking encyclopedia. And I tell you never try to tie your shoes in front of an astrophysicist. What happens is they'll tell you you're doing it wrong.

All my life I have apparently been tying my shoelaces wrong, there is a much more mathematically beautiful way of doing it, that I was shown by bill nye. With Neil deGrasse Tyson looking on. The other kind of thing that you get to do on "Brain Storm" that just don't happen on a regular Stargate atlantis episode. If you want to feel stupid, that'd be an episode to hang around on. I was like, you know, I'm just an actor.

But it was good because you got to pretend that you were this huge scientist just with them, got to give them a little attitude back, so that must have been fun to give them a little flack.

Exactly, yeah it's kinda hard to fake that in front of Neil deGrasse Tyson, so you know. They were having so much fun and you know, and the other thing is, on the one end you've got, you know, the science geniuses, and then you've got the comedy geniuses of the world, like Dave Foley, I grew up with that guy, with Kids in the Hall and stuff, so it was amazing, just amazing, and he's also a nerd who knows everything, I might add. It was a room full of nerds. They filled the room with nerds who basically know everything. Jewel was just rolling her eyes the entire time.

Dave Foley was an interesting pick for that role...I was surprised to see him

there's been a few interesting choices in SG lately... Foley and Carlyle being two of them.....

Also in the next episode on Jan 2 we've got two Soprano guys AND Jerry Goldsmith, who composes the music for both SG-1, SG:A and the SG-1 movies, playing poker with Sheppard and a wraith in Vegas.

Is Robert Calyle the guy from 28 Weeks Later who
fled the house at the beginning leaving his wife and the kid with the zombies?

never seen either 28 X later movies..... but i believe that was his character in 28 weeks later.

Really? Becuase when I first saw that, I was like "who the **** is that?".

He was just in the 24 TV-movie, too. I mean, he's at least as famous as RDA and Robert Patrick were before their Stargate roles. He's got a few movies and some recognition to his name.

I always thought of Robert Carlyle as a poor man's Tim Roth.

No way he was as famous in the US as MacGyver! :cmad:

Pff, by the time Stargate rolled around, everyone had forgotten about MacGyver. We Americans are a fickle lot. :o

I didn't know he was MacGyver till just before Atlantis started and I saw a TV special about Stargate with Amada Tapping taking the piss out of him. I think it was an out take from Season 1 or 2.
