Lol, I would say it is, seeing as Origins isn't favored by critics as much as Knight.

Not sure how controversial but
The Killing Joke is the best origin and one of the best stories for the Joker.
Agreed that the Riddler and the Mad Hatter work better when not being so dark.
Jim Carrey was decent as the Riddler as was Chris O'Donnell as Robin in BF.

The only thing that occasionally makes me tune in to watch Gotham is Morena Baccarin & Jessica Lucas.

The whole show is not anything close to what it should be.

I don't think that's a very unpopular position. That show is such a disappointment.

If you had creative control of a TV show about GOTHAM you would think the first season would be dedicated to the murder of Bruce's parents.

We just assume his father was an honorable man. What if he wasnt? What if thats why he got killed?
What if he was an honorable man and the killer wasnt revealed until the end with a motive other than robbery?

So many ways they could have went.

I agree with the roller coaster idea. Very uneven in its story from 1 episode to the next.
They don't seem to know if they want to create their own stories or go to villains origins one week to the next.

The saddest part about Gotham is how good it could be.
They've done excellently with Bruce Wayne's entire arc so far; I mean, that confession to Silver St. Cloud at the end of the Galavan arc was so perfectly Bruce.
And the first season did an excellent job of showing a city so corrupt, so morally twisted, that it needs something like Batman to get things heading toward the light, because we see the effort that Gordon puts in time and time again and he gets barely anywhere. But as soon as they went to Season Two and the whole 'Rise of the Villains' thing, they dropped everything involving the mob or the corruption in the city and just focused on throwing as many super villains into the story as they could; all of which were evidently starting their careers ten years too early.

Strip it back to it's Season One roots, make it about pushing against the darkness again, rather than just willy nilly showcasing all of Batman's rogues gallery ten years before Batman even shows up.

Which season one roots? The third episode of the series has Gordon going after friggin' Balloon Man.

I will agree that Bruce has been handled pretty well, at least comparatively. He's written and acted like a kid who's trying to sound like an adult. That's the exact way I imagine Bruce would be at that age. Already putting on a front.

Leaving the Gotham topic behind, another thing that always bothered me about Batman was the hours in the day for him.
Does Bruce have so much money he can buy like 36 hours a day?
We are to assume most of his adventures are during the night.
Then I would assume he sleeps to recover from whatever he did the night before.
But when does he have time to show up at Wayne Enterprises to run the company like any billionaire would do?
When does he have time to put in for all the investigations he has going on to whoever is on his radar?
Baffles my mind.

Bruce sustain on the bare minimum amount of sleep required for a healthy life. And he has a lot of people who take care of Wayne Enterprises for him, most notably Lucius. When you're that rich you don't need to be very hands-on. You hire people to do things for you.

I like the supportive though concerned Alfred of the Burton-Schumacher films, especially aside from in B89, more than the TAS or Caine versions.

Just saw this... and since I've been thinkingabout Batman a while, here are my 2 cents. Only ressurecting this thread because some of my views have not been mentioned or discussed.

Unpopular opinions (my real opinions, not trolling):


Knightfall sucks. So does NML. Too long, overwritten. They each feature some brilliant moments but on the whole, they were a waste of publishing.

Bane is an awful character.

Barbara Gordon is the only Batgirl worth a damn and Tim Drake should have been the final Robin.

Jason Todd was a fine Robin, but should've stayed dead.

I've Got Batman in My Basement is wonderful.

Batman hasn't been good since Dini left Detective Comics.

Never cared about New-52, Damian Robin, Rebirth etc.

Bruce should always be Batman unless Tim or Dick fill in for a very very very very short time.

Truly essential Batman comes down to less than 20 stories (all pre-New 52), Batman 89, Begins, The Dark Knight, a few episodes of BTAS and Brave and the Bold cartoon.

Marshall Rogers is the best Batman artist of all time.

Matt Wagner's Batman work is kinda lame.

Adam West Batman was the most faithful adaptation in all media outside BTAS.

The Joker (2019) has the character's greatest portrayal on film.

Jared Leto was better than Ledger Joker.

John Dimaggio was a better Joker voice than Mark Hammill.

Val Kilmer was an amazing Batman but the best in live action is still Keaton.

Most fan edits of any Batman film are better than the actual theatrical cuts.

The Max Allan Collins run from the mid-80's is a great run of Batman comics.

Jim Starlin wasn't a good Batman writer, but The Cult was pretty good.

Sorry about that! I do really like Batman Forever though. I think Kilmer did a great of of both Batman and Bruce Wayne. I also think he looked absolutely fantastic in the Batsuit!
