Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

Well, saw this Friday. And what an event this was!

First, it was a full moon. Maybe that had something to do with it, maybe it didn't, who knows.

Well, where Carrie is crying by herself after Tommy asked her out, just before the teacher shows up, the screen went black. We all could hear the voices, but the screen was black for a good 5 minutes. The manager came in, and we, the audience, told him how far back to go, so we had to go through some of the movie again.

Then, just after the pigs blood falls, you got them different camera angles going on with the same shot, and just before she starts to get all pissed off, the screen goes black again, just before the best part. I'm telling you, we were so pissed. Well, we missed the part where she starts to show what she can do before the screen gets fixed, but this time the manager does not rewind the film. We watched the rest of it, but I was just pissed off at what was going on to enjoy the rest of the film. I'm sure there is a good movie in there somewhere, but because of circumstances, I just could not get into it. Then, the movie ends, and we all thought we were going to get like complimentary tickets or something, and alas, we were rushed out of the theater and the door closed promptly on us. I used to be such a fan of this theater, due to their strict no cell phone policy (they catch you on the phone, no warning, they will kick you out of the theater) but I was just so mad how they handled this flub.

What I can remember, the movie was OK, I thought Moretz did great, but just like the original, I really couldn't get into this movie. It's too slow moving, and I just can't relate to none of the characters.

That's bull****. They should at least compensated everyone with some tix.

I think I'm still going to go see it just to satisfy my curiosity.

I liked it, wasn't amazing, wasn't horrible, but worth a watch. I enjoyed some things better than the original:
The actor who played Tommy Ross, the Prom effects, Julianne Moore's performance, the final house scene.

Some of the things I didn't like much:
You didn't really get to get a handle on much of the other high schoolers other than Carrie, Sue, Chris, Tommy, and Billy(Not technically a student I know); I mean I know they're the main ones, and we kind got to know one more of the girls, but I remember the original having more memorable students doing the teasing. Most they had in this one was there being twin girls because....they're twins? And then we all of a sudden meet Tommy's nice friend at the prom because hey, we need someone for Carrie to meet! In the original and other versions, while Tommy had friends who were overall nice, they at least showed them reacting to Tommy's invitation to Carrie and questioning him. They just felt written out when I feel like they're just as important to the story as the girls.

The Prom victims was way too watered down for my liking, felt like only the bullies got what was coming; Not trying to say they should pull inspiration from current school shootings, but I think there should have been more innocent victims for it to feel more like a tragedy. The only nameless victim I felt kind of sorry for was the kid who showed Carrie how to make a video full screen in the library.

And this is me being very nit-picky, but I hate when horror movies have a final scare/scream or whatever and then it jumps to credits with pop/alt rock music that does not match the tone of the film at all. I'm not knocking the music, but it really just kills any good feelings I had toward the film I just watched. Plenty modern-day horror movies are guilty of this.

Well, Carrie was never described as being hideous. If she had more confidence more than likely all versions of her could have been in the popular crowd. It's the way she acts that's the problem.

If I remember the book correctly (it's been awhile since I've read it), her mother wanted her unattractive to keep the boys away, so she was overweight and her face was terribly broken out. I remember in one of the 'testimonies' that one of the surviving students recalls seeing a photo of her and realizing for the first time that she was really quite beautiful, but that it was hidden.

And you're right, it's not her looks, it's the way she acts. She's awkward to the point where it looks like she's stupid, and people saw it as pathetic and weak. Even the gym teacher (in the book, and the original film) admits she wanted to "take her and shake her" in the shower too.

In the book, there was a statement by a student about a time she caught her in the girls' room trying to blot her lipstick with a tampon. The girl asked what she was doing, and Carrie, completely clueless, just said she thought that's what it was for. The student recalled that she felt sorry for her, but it was obvious if she'd been with a crowd, they would have teased her for it. It was too easy.

Chloe's Carrie was way too confident and aware.

Chloe is a good actress obviously, but this role is not meant for her. She'd make more sense as one of the girls making fun of Carrie. Sissy Spasek was perfect and can't be topped

That and Sissy got an Oscar Nom for her role as Carrie.

I can see where someone said it felt more realistic. That might just be due to watching the original years after the fact and it being in a time I'm not used to makes it surreal whereas this film feels real because its a time period I know. I liked it. I thought some aspects were better like the relations between the students and that Carries was more of a regular kind of outcast instead of the weirdest kid ever; with that said though - there wasn't really an arc, probably from the short time period so the pay off never completely seems narratively deserved whereas it felt right to the story in the first one.

Why exactly?

Am I seriously the only one that doesn't find her to be that pretty?

Her attractiveness has been a complaint from day one. That said, Sissy Spacek wasn't ordinary either in retrospect so it's a complaint that wasn't really warranted.

Also, I haven't read through the thread, so I don't know if this has been stated, but that 12 year old girl that was just "bullied to death" recently was a cute kid. I don't know why people were giving her so much crap, but it wasnt because she wa hideous.

They're never insanely ugly, some people are just secretly jealous I suspect. Girls get like that.

This movie has a bland look and feel to it.

Does not look like it's worth the 10 bucks for a viewing.

Chloe is overated, no girl that young should be charging 50-100 dollars an autograph.

Eh, if people will pay for it, why not? Plus the con takes their cut as well.

I don't think you know what overrated means.

I don't think Chloe is overrated at all. She is one of the best young actors out there right now easily.

It was apparently over a boyfriend.

Chloe Grace Moretz does an outstanding job as Carrie White, the oppressed protagonist of the film, with what perhaps might be the most accurate portrayal of this character (mostly due to her age). The films major weakness is that it follows the first film too strongly and is afraid to go all the way with the books themes. I’m surprised that Katherine Pierce was afraid to go all the way with these things (since francis ford coppola was not).

I was notified today, several weeks after the film's release, that I won a Carrie prize pack that includes a guys shirt, a girls shirt, a poster and copy of the book. I'll post pics when I get the package in the mail.

I think Chloe is too attractive for the role because Carrie is described as not being attractive. Overweight and a lot of acne. Cissy was actual too attractive for the role but it was t so in your face and I believed people would find her plain and dowdy. Angela was actually believable as bein unattractive but at the prom you did have a wow moment and saw how pretty she could be.

As for the massacre, I think try get better with every remake. The only good thing about the 76 massacre was Cissy, the doors closing and when the fire started behind Carrie. I feel that water hose really ruins the scene for me.
I still think the 2002 massacre is my favorite, making the gym collapse as she walks out is epic. In the 2013 version I liked that everyone knew it was Carrie causing this to happen and that they were screwed. I don't know how I feel about a majority of the people surviving; causing everyone to die makes it more believable that she had a psychotic break.

Chloe is too attractive yes. It's the 'Hollywood Ugly' effect. Just like Emma Stone in 'Easy A'. She was easiest the most attractive girl in that film despite playing the 'average nerdy type'.
