Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

Religious mother and they can't teach it to kids in the US without parental consent.

Say whaaaaaaaaaaat? It's mandatory here, it's part of the Health class curriculum.

When I was in school, a few kids would always go into the hallway during Sex Ed. Their parents would not allow them to participate.

I'm sorry, but that's effing stupid.

You think that's bad, some schools don't offer it all and are often prevented from doing so outright.

Others offer it but with wildly inaccurate information.

Its a plague.

My school's sex education program amounted to "don't do it, or you will likely die one of a dozen horrible deaths."

Even basic biology is never covered, its absolutely ridiculous.

Parents have to sign off on it. In my school it was just one or two of the kids and they just learned it at lunch since their parents were idiots.

In any case that is the reason she is teased... not her looks but her obvious ignorance in basic female anatomy.

I had no idea the system was so messed up over there, even our religious school have to teach sex education. I just assumed because it's a part of the health classes here it'd be the same States side. I honestly find it appalling that these kids aren't being given the basic information on the very foundation of life from a Western nation. I take back what I said about the character of Carrie being ignorant, apparently it's not an unlikely thing to happen.

It's that bad NOW I'd hate to think of what it was like in 1970's when the book was written.

Even then though the other characters are taken aback by the girls complete lack of knowledge.

Because [BLACKOUT]throwing tampons at her as she cries is[/BLACKOUT] just the US way of saying... we care!

Do we really need spoiler tags for this movie?

Probably not but someone in the Oldboy thread was complaining so I thought I'd play nice

It was his sled, and Vader was his father.

We had kids that couldn't participate in sex ed too. Mostly ours covered basic function and stds. The boys and girls were separated. The boys only learned about the penis. And the girls learned about the vagina. After the class discussing it at all was punishable with detention. Woo hoo for bible belt education.

I wonder if they will touch upon the lack of education in the film. All I know from the trailer is that it hits the same general beats as the book and other film.

Is there a script leak or any other information?

I agree. It's vital stuff to learn. In Canada (at least where I live), it's mandatory in middle (7-8) and high school. Parents only get a notification that it's starting up for the first time and that's it.

see this is why in europe people make fun of US and the religion. you belive in god? fine. but s.. the f.. up when my kid is learning in school important subject.

How does someone else taking THEIR kid out of that class affect YOUR kid?

if i understand right they dont have the class because of the fanatic parents.

We have the class. In order to attend the student is given a form to take home for the parent to sign. Then your child goes to the class while parents that either want to teach the child themselves or are just religious and don't want their child doing it do not.

My understanding is that it is taught to the child in US schools so long as the parent agrees to allow it.

I don't think its that crazy though that a parent might prefer to talk about it with the child personally.

Yea that is much simpler then how I put it so.... What ThePhantasm said ^^^

Now prohibiting it AND never talking to your child about it would be freakin' crazy. But no religion that I can think of teaches you to behave that way, and the grand majority of religious people don't behave that way.

My 5th grade teacher ruined my life when he told us during "Human Growth and Development" that the average erection is 8 inches long.

I can't make that up.
