Stephen King's 'Carrie' remake

My understanding is that it is taught to the child in US schools so long as the parent agrees to allow it.

I don't think its that crazy though that a parent might prefer to talk about it with the child personally.

But parents don't always know the best way to inform their children. It's the same as driving education, parents who teach their kids tend to pass on bad habits, bias and misunderstandings of what's right and what's wrong instead of teaching the objective facts of the situation. Sex education at worst should be done in conjunction with the schools and should be mandatory. It's best to let nature take its course with them having a full understanding of what happens instead of giving them ill informed information or worse skipping over certain areas.

The state doesn't always know the best way to educate children either. I could bring up dozens of regimes that have abused and indoctrinated kids.

I'm all in favor of giving parents the right to school their kids according to their conscience and beliefs.

I just don't see how someone that looks like Chloe Moretz could get bullied in school. Moretz is going to be an absolute babe when she grows up.

i doubt it (not that it matters). she's kind of jodie foster-esque. anyways, people can always dig up the Angela Bettis Carrie remake if they want the less cute version. me, i prefer the original.

And not all parents do what's in the best interests of their children. Skipping Sex Ed? Please, beliefs shouldn't even be a part of the discussion, it's about delivering them the facts of life which is what they deserve to know, it's appalling parenting to let your belief system get in the way of giving your children the knowledge they need to know.

Every child is different. They take that knowledge in different ways. The parent knows the child better. Skipping the government ed class doesn't mean they are going to leave the child ignorant about things.

I'm more disturbed by your notion that the government can dictate what children do and do not learn and at what times... you seem to greatly distrust parents but for some reason greatly trust the government (and if you look at our education systems and their problems in our countries... what reasons have the government given me to encourage me to trust them in this area?)

Sorry, but I can't be that blindly optimistic about the government... call me cynical.

My 5th grade teacher ruined my life when he told us during "Human Growth and Development" that the average erection is 8 inches long.

I can't make that up.

Your fifth grade teacher was sadly misinformed. Recent studies and old studies have all came to the same conclusion. The average human erection is 5.6 inches. Yeah you get erections all the way from the micro 1.5 inches to the garden snake 12 inches but the average is 5.6 inches. So to all those fretting over it, if you're in that area your normal.

"This has been a public service announcement provided by science. Making tomorrow a little brighter and less ignorant."

the parent is not a teacher and doesnt have enough experience with teaching children to know how to teach his children about this important topic.

we trust our school system because it works.but thats europe. if in the US it doesnt than you have a big problem. something that can not be changed by voting for the president. you need to go on street and protest. i am serious here.

you know how serious it is in europe? here if your parent is a teacher he has enough common sense to let his child go in school.

:D:up:

I know from very personal experience that unfortunately parents aren't teaching their kids sex ed at all. The vast majority aren't anyway. And it's dangerous and a shame that parents don't want to discuss something so important. I don't "trust" the government either but I trust foolish parents who ignore something so important less.

I wish I lived in the fantasy land where parents let their kids sit out sex ed and taught their kids sex ed themselves but lets not play games that doesn't happen by and large. It sucks but that is the truth. Don't have sex before marriage is not sex ed is what I want to scream at parents.

Or they are giving their kids mixed messages about sex. I was given a book as a kid that talked about the facts of life and then got laughed at when I was seen reading it.

I'm more interested in professionals teaching kids the actual truth about how life is. You wanna call it dictating? So be it, I want the information being given to them to be in black and white form and not be muddied by misinformation, bias or religious conservatism. There are too many ignorant kids who don't know the first thing about the basic fundamentals of life building, information that should never be withheld from them in the first place. It is irresponsible parenting to tip toe around such an issue. Sure there are parents who are more than willing to discus the topic with their kids, but that doesn't mean the parents know everything or the best way to get the kids to understand it, it has to be more than just an uncomfortable discussion around the dinner table one evening, it has to be studied properly and in an environment free of mixed messages. I distrust parents not because they don't care, but because many of them don't know how to approach the subject matter in an objective way. I trust a teacher who's job it is to inform the kids in a clear and concise way.

I wish I had gotten a book. lol I adore my folks and I'm not trying to diss them but I can't remember one honest and long conversation about sex. It was don't have sex before marriage. Period. The end.

I actually don't think that is bad advice but it's even better advice to allow your kids to get comprehensive sex education and then tell them your moral beliefs. What can I say, my parents are old school and religious (I am too but I think that comprehensive sex ed is a must) so it's not unexpected. I'm not *****ing about it really just revealing a bit about myself.

a good conversation.

its now easier for me to accept Carrie in this modern movie.

Glad I could help. I was wondering about the 'too pretty' debate when she is made fun of for being ignorant due to her mother.

I was quite confused.

i think she is to attractive and was made even more attractive with hollywood make up for this movie. but it will be easier for me to understand how she can be such a freak to others. it does look like some parents in the US are crazy.

Amen to that

Man, I don't even know what the hell is going on in here. O_o

So...there's a new Carrie movie coming out soon apparently! :)

Me too actually, I can look past her attractiveness now in the wake of learning what it's like over in the States.

We're all just our own separate little countries over here when it comes to various beliefs.

"Carrie" Remake Delayed To Make It Darker

By Garth Franklin Friday August 9th 2013 01:00PM
When Kimberly Pierce's new adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie" was delayed from March to October, many were wondering what was the cause.
Now, the film's lead star Chloe Moretz tells Fangoria that the delay allowed reshoots in Toronto this past May to make the film scarier. Here's her explanation:
"We actually prolonged the film, to be honest. We did some reshoots, and added three extra scenes with Julianne [Moore, as Carrie’s mother] and I to make the movie even deeper and darker.
We prolonged a couple of scenes that needed to have an extra moment or an extra beat just to make it even deeper. It wasn’t about cutting anything out or trying to edit around things; it was about adding more to make the movie scarier and more intense."

You scared me... I thought it was being delayed again!
Hope the changes are for the better.

Yep. Most of the rapes and molestations are between the teachers and the kids. When I was a 11, my best friend at the time, and a daughter from one of my dad's co-workers were raped by their teachers. It was the final straw though when a cop from DARE and a few teachers at the local elementary school were arrested for selling drugs and molesting several of the kids. My dad had had it with the schools, took me out, had me home schooled and I never looked back. I went 4 years to a college, and that was that.

So I found out the IMDB that this is the only horror movie in October since PA5 is pushed back. This is going to be a big hit. The delay might be the best thing they've done.
