Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 1

I read the first book and I loved it. I wished they just adapted that. It's a very simple, straightforward story that wouldn't cost an obscene amount of money. It's essentially a supernatural western with a man pursing another man. That's a great movie right there. You got the actors to carry it anyway.

And I would have loved to see Walter resurrecting scene in Tull. That's the creepiest and one of the most well written scenes in the book. McConaughey as Walter is perfect casting.

This is going to be rated R right? Surely it needs to be? I am just reading the last book at the moment and pretty much everything [BLACKOUT]Mordred[/BLACKOUT] does would need to be in an r rated movie.

So, what could this be? Fan made or promotion for the upcoming Dark Tower film? You decide.

Fran Kranz cast as Pimli Prentiss? Is this even an adaptation of the books anymore or they just doing their own thing while keeping the basics of the story? It certainly sounds like the latter.

I don't even recognise these character names half the time... maybe I need to read the books again. It sounds like they are just going for the whole story but within a trilogy...which is a mistake.

If Marvel has proven anything, it's that set up and taking time with stories pays off so, so, much.

I'm thinking they're introducing major players early. Pimli was first mentioned in Wolves of the Calla, but we don't meet him until The Dark Tower. To streamline the story, probably.

Well...

After the ending of the 7th book it seems like Roland goes through his story many times in a number of different ways. So, it looks like they're just doing their own iteration of the story. Part of me hopes that the first movie ends in a way where Roland can start his story (the one we all know) from book 2 on.

The first book seems like it would be so easy to adapt on screen. It's about the same length as the first Harry Potter but with more flashback. I'm not sure why they're going to deviate so much from the source material. I have a bad feeling that it won't work out well.

Kranz is actually playing Spike Jones in a twist where Roland travels to an alternate dimensions that features Jones trying to make a Dark Tower film. I hear Charlie Kaufman did some rewrites on the script.

Do you think the movies will include the Wolves of Thunderclap?

Agreed, doing these as a trilogy is a huge mistake, so much will be missed.

Just reading the final book now so not reading those spoilers, sorry. But I agree I can't see what they are doing working out well either.

Ah, yeah, don't click that cause it'll definitely spoil the end.

I'm gonna predict the structure of this trilogy: tagged just in case.

Movie 1 - Roland ends up catching the Man in Black, learns about Devar-Toi

Movie 2 - Either the Wolves plot, or maybe they'll jump straight to Devar - Toi

Movie 3 - The rest of End-World

Katheryn Winnick Joins The Dark Tower

Katheryn Winnick will be joining Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in The Dark Tower.

Based on the Stephen King-penned fantasy series, the film will follow a wandering knight (Elba) who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis, the Man in Black (McConaughey).

Tom Taylor and Fran Kranz will also appear in the Sony project, which has already begun production.

Nikolaj Arcei is set to direct the adaption, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer producing under their Imagine Entertainment banner. King and Erica Huggins will also act as producers, with Jeff Pinkner executive producing.

Winnick stars in History Channel's Vikings and will next be seen opposite Gerard Butler in Warner Bros.' Geostorm.

She is repped by CAA and Alchemy.
