Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 1

I haven't read the book since I was 15. I suppose it's time for a re-read.

Also, for Tower Junkies, if they show [BLACKOUT]The Turtle[/BLACKOUT] at the end, and make any reference to [BLACKOUT]The Beam[/BLACKOUT] it guards, I will quite literally explode. I know links between IT and TDT are loose, but in a world of shared universe movies, it'd be quite fitting and would certainly rock

Yeah. People are talking about Pennywise a lot, which is understandable, but IT has so many faces. I'm excited to see how they portray them, especially in the film's latter stages.

This is what I'm highly intrigued about as well. Given the massive leaps in technology, it'll be interesting seeing IT take on those different forms. I honestly can't wait to see what the final form looks like this go around.

Oh man... I'm so ready to see this! That was a great teaser trailer! The only thing that bugs me a bit is that it seems that they removed Bill's stutter. I really hope the stutter is in the final film...

But everyone who still doesn't like the Pennywise design, this design is actually much closer to the look the character had in the novel. Plus, Pennywise doesn't always go after kids as a clown; a lot of the time he takes the form of kids different fears, such as the leper.

Overall, this film looks promising!

Yeah he uses they're biggest fears but the concept he appears as most is a clown and that's the problem with this design there is no subtly with it. It always look horrific you seriously think any kid would go near that and think it's fun.

That's the point of currys he could have blended in with a standard circus or funfair and the kid wouldn't know the danger until it's to late.

Did I also notice an edited out "What the **** is that" from trashmouth Tozier? :funny:

Kids always put themselves in danger. Seriously. Also, this isn't Curry's Pennywise. People need to let that go.

They MUST do [BLACKOUT]The Deadlights, The Ritual Of Chud, The Macroverse, The Turtle[/BLACKOUT]... all of it for this to be a successful adaptation. Otherwise this will just be another horror movie, like the 90s miniseries ended up being.

Bingo. Tim Curry's Pennywise is great, yes but this is a new take on the character and I think what we have seen so far is very promising.

I know I for one will miss the subtle design of a regular clown.

Really gonna miss that subtle sequence where there's a regular clown in the sewers.

He...didn't, though.

That's not how the character has ever been used. He doesn't "blend in". He's not meant to blend in. On any level.

The tragedy of this is that CHILDREN are innocent. They will trust almost anyone.

It is not the design of It or the execution of said that was meant to be innocent. There's nothing innocent about a clown in the sewer.

It was the children who were the innocent ones. The ones who trusted.

That does not seem to have changed here.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure I read that Muschietti wanted to incorporate The Ritual of Chud in some way.

I'm happy with how little they showed, there's so much wonderful imagery that I was scared they would show too soon. This is basically Warner bro's cutting a trailer appealed for the masses, this movie isn't a quick cut jump scare palooza in the slightest. All around great teaser, and extremely satisfied with the fact that they didn't even touch upon bill performance as pennywise. People are going to be floored.

I'll take it a step farther and say his Pennywise sucked. He had the best performance in the movie, but there's no sense of tension or dread with him, IMO.

Also, we know there are references to the
Turtle
in this
(Bill/Georgie own TRTL walkie-talkies)
, so I'm betting we see
Chud
. :sly:

I agree. Those elements would do a great deal in separating this from standard horror fare. I'm not 100% familiar with the book but am aware of what happens in it. Ever since this was announced I've been hoping they would delve deeper into those facets because the 90s version left a lot to be desired by not weaving them into the story.

We'd better. The ending of that mini-series was bloody awful. There has to be [BLACKOUT]Deadlights[/BLACKOUT] in this.

As I recall, and it's been awhile since I've read the book so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong:

The only reason Pennywise ever looked "normal" is because of the context.

The kids were looking through old photographs and there was occasionally a clown in them. This seemed "normal" at first, because sometimes there's a clown at a carnival or whatever. As soon as the kids started noticing that same clown kept appearing in photos of various tragedies, it stopped being "normal" and instantly seemed sinister.

The character of Pennywise was never "normal". Right from the start he was threatening and scary. He was constantly trying to frighten the kids away. He was never just some clown at a birthday party, handing out balloons. There was always a sense of menace.

Hell... Even if you look at the mini-series... Tim Curry was fantastic, but Pennywise was never just a "normal" clown. He was immediately showing up in odd places. No - he didn't have fangs... It was more the juxtaposition of an innocent appearance with the strange circumstances that created the threatening feel... But, again, it was never supposed to serve as camouflage or anything like that.

IT was never trying to pass as normal by appearing as Pennywise. That was just one of IT's favorite faces to wear.

Seeing that Bill's stutter was not in Cary Fukunaga's script, it's every possible that the stutter was not put back in Andy Mushietti's final film version.

I hope it's in the final film, though.

That seems like such a weird thing to leave out considering it was a big part of who he was.

Once again : he does stutter once in the trailer, and it isn't like he couldn't form a sentence in the books. It was mainly / amplified when he was upset.

It can't be left out. He Thrusts His Fists Against The Posts is vital to his character, and his [BLACKOUT]showdown with IT.[/BLACKOUT]

I'm starting to question myself on whether or not I heard a minor stutter at all. :funny:

The blood from the sink though, that looks so rad.

Pretty good teaser, didn't blow me away. Bill and George seem to be very well cast.

Agree with those that feel Pennywise is too wicked looking but maybe he's not that way over the whole movie when first appearing to the kids.

The house on Neibolt St is what I don't really like. Looks too much like an obvious haunted house type set build. When I read the story, I pictured something much more innocuous and nondescript. The real horror was inside.

I pictured a total *****hole so that was about on par with my imagination :funny:

so, I never read the book, but I've seen reference made to a scene in the book where the kids "bond" by taking turns sleeping with the girl in the group?

is that true?

I would think that element would still not make it in the new movie, yes?

Yep. Out of context it sounds awful, but kinda makes sense in the story. It won't make the movie...

The House on Neibolt Street is described as run down and abandoned. It's a bit "haunted house" in the movie, though that's obviously also just how they see it, but I think the point of it is that

they'd rather go in THAT place than face the wrath of the bullies.
