I have a hard time believing this will happen because if WB/New Line won't finance It movies, then why should we believe Tom Rothman of all people would greenlight TDT?

If anything The Dark Tower is more of a franchise than IT. Also it has this epic appeal that make it work.

Rothman has a lot prove so that's why I'm thinking his old self is a thing of the past, though it's too early to say.

I'm currently on the Wizard and Glass right now and there is nothing I want more than for this series to be adapted to TV and movies.

Really? January 13th?

That is the oddest release date to me.

Wow, has that guy directed anything before? Will have to finish the series as only got4 books in but loved it, looking forward to the movie.

Yeah, that is a weird release date. It's like they're expecting it to be crap.

Arcel directed the Danish fantasy Island of Lost Souls and the internationally acclaimed A Royal Affair. He also co-adapted the Swedish version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

I think Rothman wants to see if The Dark Tower can perform in a typically slow month, i.e. American Sniper. Never mind that it was a platform release or different subject matter, that $89M 3-day/$107M 4-day opening is incredible for January.

It's like we're finally climbing the stairs of the Dark Tower!

[/B]Wait a minute... they're making Underworld 5? Seriously, who goes to see those movies? I don't think I've ever met anyone who likes them.

Shrek syndrome. First one might have been okay, but then they just keep making sequels over and over and over again.

American Sniper was a fluke. A January release for a major tentpole film that's suppose to start a franchise is an awful risky move which Sony can't afford.

Could have definitely got June 9, August 11, XMAS. Its a holiday and has had 3 movies over 40M for the 4-day. Maybe the sequel would end up in a better date, look at Bad Boys.

American Sniper was a sure hit. It was catnip for "patriots" of 'Murica. It also had a smaller budget than I imagine that this will have. of if they are going to try to recreate that success with Dark Tower they are being very naive.

Anybody know if they've retained any of the stuff Ron Howard was doing? I guess I must've stopped paying attention, because I had no idea they had changed creative teams, lol. Based on what Pickle posted, it sounded like they're still working off the same script with a rewrite from the director to likely personalize it.

American Sniper wasn't a true January release anyway. It was a December limited release, and by the time it went into wide release in January, there was already Oscar buzz. That, coupled with the 'Murica thing was why it was a hit.

Matthew McConaughey is being eyed to play gunslinger Roland Deschain in the big screen adaptation of Stephen King‘s “The Dark Tower,” multiple individuals familiar with the situation have told TheWrap.

While insiders insist it’s early and neither side has committed, they admit preliminary discussions have taken place and both parties are interested in striking a deal.

Sony Pictures and MRC are co-financing the ambitious feature film, which Nikolaj Arcel will direct from a script by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner that’s primarily based on the first book in King’s series, “The Gunslinger.”

A representative for Sony had no comment.

Variety is saying he's been offered both Roland and the villain role and he's drawn more toward the villain.

I hope he plays both! :hehe:

When the say the villain, do we actually mean Flagg? Because that would be awesome.
